I've argued this elsewhere, but I really think Smile (the song Terra keeps calling disneyish) would work better in cutscenes if they started at the quiet beginning of the song rather than jumping to the bombastic final chorus
I would agree, but then by the final time we hear it, the soft part would be too played out. Songs like Tomorrow and Tomorrow are very atmospheric and have more gradual dynamic contrast than Smile, which IMO lends itself better to the nuance of FFXIV's storytelling when it's at its best. And personally, I'm not a fan of the vocals in the first part, but that's just my opinion and taste in music
13:38 Did you really think that Ishikawa and Yoshi-P the primals of tears were going to let you through this without crying!a 18:00 My Alisaie, she's grown up so much. Keeping someone else from being reckless instead of jumping in before she thinks herself.
I don't think Ishikawa was heavily involved this time. I think she's doing the job Banri Oda was doing from ARR-EW, the writing supervisor more or less.
@@SarahExpereinceRequiem I'm pretty sure they still mentioned her and Yoshi-P coming up with the general outline for the story. So she probably didn't write the dialogue but I would expect she had a say in who lives and who dies.
@@elaine_of_shalott6587 This is incorrect, unless you mean that Yoshi P dictated there would BE an expansion, and it would focus on a new character. Daichi Hiroi is the lead story designer here, and Banri and Ishikawa are senior story designers only. Hiroi is a theater kid (he ran his own theater) that joined around FF14's 2.3 and his work has had mixed reviews (bard quest, dancer quests, palace of the dead I think, assistant to quest writer for Return to Ivalice and Save the Queen). Kawasaki and Onozuka were Main Scenario Writers and a couple different people were the Lead Quest System Designers. There is no indication of Naoki Yoshida working on the story (more importantly, the delivery/execution) and he is not credited in the story section of the credits at the end of dawntrail. I don't think the story was bad, but I do think the execution (the story telling) was extremely 'Under 12, young readers' which I think took many by surprise as that wasnt their expectation after the markedly increased maturity of FF14 story writing since Heavensward, and perfected in Shadowbringers.
10:50 "My son. My son!" You could feel the pain in his voice. 21:30 Lots of pain. 43:50 Poor Erenville. He helped us in Endwalker but this is the first time he's been personally involved in Scion nonsense. 54:22 I wonder who that coulda been. 59:00 This is our Mt. Gulg/Sharlayan Docks moment unite all our friends moment.
It's so funny, of all the things I thought could be behind the golden city (Allagans, Ascians, Aligators... I never thought it would be another refection) I've started calling her Kri-el the Last Daughter of Krypton :P
I saw one theory prior to the release where someone thought it was possibly a group of ancients who somehow survived the sundering. This was based off nothing but they said it anyway
"Damn she's resolved... it's almost like she's the vow of it or something!"...... how do I take back my like, comment, and subscription? (jk I need your tears to fuel me)
I love that a great character trait for Estinien during the Endwalker patch quests was his tendency and enthusiasm for just...breaking robots, specifically the ones in Alzadaal's Legacy. And then he just continues to be an expert at destroying them. Also, if you get to the top of the palace in Tuliyolal, you can actually see the outline of the dome from the roof.
Another video another stream of consciousness commentary from me: 0:3:15 Oh, I would riot! 0:7:00 - 0:8:00 I love the idea of Bakool Ja Ja just not knowing how to handle the reactions to him being a hero instead of a comic book villain.
I do think that the moment at 0:7:00, when he first reappears, is a perfect character moment for him. Not just because he doesn't quite know how to react, but because he's saving a child. Given his history, that really resonates.
When you realize that Wuk Lamat is only 19… or younger! (When she learns her bio dad has been leader of his community for 20 years she says “Wow! That’s longer than I’ve been alive!”) a lot of things start to make sense. She’s so young! And yet she’s already grown so much, weathered so many trials, borne the weight of so many expectations, and now suffered such a great loss… the comparison some people make to Alisaie makes perfect sense, as does Alisaie getting her big sister moment. She might be a bit younger, but she’s already been through the arc that Lamati’y is just starting. And we love that for both of them ❤
I'm with ya Terra. Smile IS a great song. It's just... weirdly out of place most times we hear it. It takes a serious situation and makes it feel more trite than it should. It just takes me out of the story entirely. In other words, shiny happy black gospel is not appropriate for "we're building a big ass bomb to obliterate our enemies" music. IMO of course! LOL!
I feel like there should be a purely instrumental version of this song that they used in the coronation and train building, and SPOILERS PAST THIS PART … only use the full version like they did at the end. Something similar has been used to great effect in other expansions, like Dragonsong and With Hearts Aligned where we only hear bits or versions of it and they only release it at full force when it’s appropriate at the end. Maybe that would’ve worked better here?
Y'shtola: It leads to another reflection. Terra: WHAT? Me: WHAT? Every NPC in the room: WHAT? I felt so validated that even my Wol reacted the same way XD. I thought that the topic would come up eventually again, since Y'shtola is still working on returning to the First and we may also go back to the Thirteenth sometime but I did NOT expect them to drop it on us so nonchalantly during MSQ. I think it is also cute that Alisaie has taken to calling G'raha by his first name. She did not do that before. I guess that means they are really good friends by now.
@HakumeiKira She has also faithfully continued to call Wuk Lamat "Lamaty'i" as she requested after the ascension ceremony even though her brother continues to say Wuk Lamat. 🥹
Omg, soo happy to see you reach this point❤. That gulool jaja scene got me too my heart hurts soo much for my beautiful and handsome bunboi erenville after the damn dome appeared. He's going through soo much
Terra, I'm curious your thoughts on us not intervening to stop Zoraal Ja during the attack on Tuliyollal, since its been a bit of a controversial point for some players. Some argue that, while respecting the duel made sense, once Zoraal Ja was raised and went into turbo mode, all bets were off (even moreso once Galool Ja Ja died). Additionally, there comes a point where he establishes himself as a threat to the whole star, and the player/scions should step in and say "Sorry Wuk, it's now officially my business as planetary savior." Why should respecting one nation get in the way of saving the entire star from war? Meanwhile others hold that, as Wuk Lamat's entourage, we have to respect her authority and give her the opportunity to represent the people of Tural. Both sides have valid perspectives IMO, and I hold that at times you just gotta let the story do its thing for the sake of there being a game.
i have a maybe. Since Krile is a from another reflection and has never seen herself in the source I would like to say shes more like us and minfilia since the we have the the power to see events thru the echo.
I never comment on your videos, but, I’ve been enjoying your videos as I was going through Endwalker and I’ve since finished Dawntrail. // My only problem with this part of the MSQ-? As a WHM main, I was LIVID we didn’t try to heal like how we did try with Haurchefant. 😭 // Have a great day ahead everyone.

WHen I first heard Y'shtola speak, I couldn't help but feel like her voice sounded a bit "off": I can't tell if it's the same VA or not, but her voice sounded a bit....lower, a bit more "suppressed" (I'm reticent to say "duller" since her main voice and speaking tone is supposed to be that of a "motherly scholar")
Sooooo... Since Krile is from another reflection AND has the power of the echo... She is "The Warrior of Light" of her reflection? - So she is a shard of us??
Minfilia and Ysayle both had the echo, didn't they? I think Arenvald might as well. It's an interesting thought, but I'm not convinced just yet based purely off of the echo similarity.

I actually haven't listened to the full song yet because it did sound like there could be some somber build-up that they have thus far been skipping!
Smile is just a musical theater finale song. It feels like a Pasek and Paul creation.
And also if they didnt play it when youre essentially building a bunker buster. Jesse Cox was singing along with "were gonna build a big ol bomb"

We have been trained to fear this specific sequence of words! 😂
Lol I'm so glad you kept the name pronunciation attempt in. Totally nailed it.
A Turali spokesperson said today "This is the one thing we didn't want to happen."
Welcome to Endw-- Dawntrail!
Shocking revelations await!
Please consider: Koana is G'Raha Blast, while G'Raha is Code Red.
So somewhere out there is a bright green catboy who is G'raha Prime???
I see your G'raha Blast and admit it's the superior moniker, but I still prefer the Baja Tia
