So great to see this...I just love them. I love Meryl's dress in this FD. She actually looks older to me here than she did in their FD the following year! They look so different here than they do now, Charlie especially bulked up, didn't he? Love the choreography here, it's beautiful. And I love their spins this year, too, that back camel is to die for.
Thanks for posting this: I love it! They are both about 15 here? Amazing! There first year of Juniors? Well, you can certainly tell that they were special even then.
Wow, their hair colors have been like reversed! Here Meryl's hair is sort of dark blondish brown and Charlie's is dark brown, and now Meryl's is dark brown and Charlie's is dark blonde. They look so young too, they were what, 15/16 years old?
Wasn't that Seth Chafetz, their first coach? Anyway he was so great to put these two together and coached them for so many years. I think he's really good at teaching basic skating, which IMO is very important for ice dancers but kind of ignored by some of the recent skaters because of COP. I think the fact that Meryl and Charlie having very good basic skating really shows the quality of his coaching.
Yes, that spin was gorgeous. I think at that time, dance spin was generally less difficult than it is today. But I also like Meryl and Charlie's spins today, just beautiful, especially in "Samson and Delilah", their back edge camel is just BREATHTAKING, you don't see many better spins even in pair skating IMO.
What I like about her choreography for Meryl and Charlie (this 2003 FD and the swing-blues OD which they used for the following season according to that 2004 article on GoldenSkate) is the balancing between both skaters throughout the program, or even presenting Meryl more. My attention was drawn to her honestly in this dance, though Charlie was also so good. But maybe Elizabeth choreographed for juniors or lower-leveled skaters more? I don't know...I really like her work.
THANK YOU!! I love the music from Chocolat! Is the second piece from Chocolat as well? I know it's a Django Reinhardt piece because I listen to it all the time, I just forget the name *sheepish*.
Sharon here: I love, love, love seeing these videos from their early days.
these videos are great showing there progression through the years fantastic thank you for posting
They were both born in 1987 so if this was early 2003, then Meryl was 16 and Charlie 15, based on when their birthdays fall.

Meryl was so elegant even at what, 16?

Their synchronization was great even back then.
I really love that spin. Would it get a level 4 these days? *sigh*
Hey guys..I wish I did, but right now all the videos I have are already on youtube. If I get anymore, I'll be sure to post them.
I'd like to second this. Do you happen to have any others? Thank you so much for this video in the first place.
