Great footage - starts by looking down Union Street towards the seafront and pier. Notice the Liner going through in the background. The seafront seems to have changed very little. Great green and cream Southern Vectis buses. The place at the very bottom of the road to the right of 'Island Coach Tours' is 'The Ashtree Restaurant' which was still there in the 60s and later. The pub three doors to the left is called 'The King Lud. Notice too the steam coming from a steam train on the railway - right of picture out of shot at 1:19. Ryde Castle (now Ryde Castle Hotel public house) at 1:24.
Yes indeed. A *regular* occurrence. Oddly, I looked at some old pictures of Ryde earlier today and there was a shot looking down Union Street and guess what was floating in the water at the bottom of the picture!??
LOVE THIS LOVE THE OLD CARS LOVE THE ISLAND
Wonderful 🥰👍

Wonder what those pipes in the sand are. ?
Those pipes were part of the fuel line that went to Normandy, France for the Allied invasion of Europe, June 6th 1944.
