Providence's last wooden bridge

  • 2.23.2015: As the year 2014 closed in on its final days, Providence lost its last wooden river bridge. This was a 40 foot long, pre-Civil War span that had been neglected for decades and had collapsed into the Moshassuck River. A humble utilitarian structure, it was easily overlooked. Abandoned for years, this humble structure had lost its purpose with the decline in industrial rail traffic and the relocation of the train station a bit further up hill. Once it had allowed horse drawn wagon and carts to cross into the bustling railroad yards of Providence.
