I've played guitar for over a year. And wondered how to change keys. You demystified it. I see you're a GOOD teacher because a good teacher takes something that might seem to be complicated and they can change it to something EASY to understand. You taught this in an easy to understand way. Thank you
I've spent the last 9 years teaching myself to play guitar and it blows my mind that i never came across that chart before. It's a hell of a lot simpler than i thought! Thanks bub!
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been playing Guitar for 4 years and my guitar teacher never taught me music theory! I have been trying to find out how to change keys and stuff for weeks and not one video taught me how to do this correctly. I’m in a band and everyone has been playing guitar for over ten years so I didn’t want to ask them and seem dumb. Thank you so much for this video! It is sooooooooo helpful.
+Bailey Horak he really only scratched the surface with this video. A much easier approach is to understand how that relates to what you're actually playing. If you look at your guitar you'll notice that the key that is a fifth up from where you're playing will always be 2 frets up from where you're playing on the next string when playing a major scale. For example, if I'm playing G major, my G is on the 3rd fret sixth string. If I go to the next string and go up to the 5th fret there's my fifth, D. If I go to the next string and place my finger on the 7th fret, there's my fifth, A and so on and so forth. In a nutshell: they run diagonally on the fretboard. Your key that is a fifth down will always be the same fret on the next string. Using G again: if you place your finger on the 3rd fret low E, that's G. If you move your finger over one string to the 3rd fret A string, there's your key that is a fifth down from where you're playing. A more advanced approach is to learn where your notes are in relation to modes. If you simply move the scale shape down down 2 frets, that's equivalent to shifting 2 keys. So I play C major and I take that same pattern and play it 2 frets down on the guitar, from the 8th fret to the 6th fret you just went from C to F to Bb major. If you want to find the same shape a fifth up from where you're playing, simply move 7 frets. So if I'm playing A Dorian (key of G major) and I want to find the Dorian mode a fifth up I just move up 7 frets. If you did it right you should be at the 12h fret (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12= 7). But the shortcut is to simply go up 2frets on the next string. Same example I'm playing A Dorian at the 5th fret, if I go up 2 frets on the next string, I'm at the E, 7th fret A string.
Thank you for making your lessons simple, practical, and easy to apply......all with a smile to boot. You are a great teacher with a beautiful heart. Thank you 👍
You look like a kind person so I’m watching your lessons among other guitarists’. And you’re good at teaching. Thank you, sincerely! 43 yo guitar beginner 😁
Following you from Canada! Great job with this tutorial... I use this system all the time... so glad you shared with everyone. No mystery or magic... everyone can do this. You do amazing videos! Straight forward and easy to follow. Just wanted to say thank you for all the work you’ve put into this and other videos. You are making a difference!
Love your energy lol. This wasn't even the exact topic I was trying to find, but I stuck around because you exude good vibes. What's your diet bro? Sunshine and Skittles?
Finally I understand how to adjust chords to suit me and my family. Thank you very much. Very appreciated. A very clear and easy to understand explanation.
Great teacher. Makes it really easy to understand the theory of what I have been doing for years but never really understood why I was doing it. Thank you.
Thank you Tomas. It's so good that you are sharing this information with us. The email address is wrong. I have responded to you a little while ago by email.
I learned a lot from your video (never could figure out how numbers worked). But say you start playing a song that has a ket change in the song. Say, you start off in D and need to move to E before starting the next verse of the song. What chords to you hit as move from D to E. Is there a method to figure that out
Something about your 'goodbye' somehow reveals to me that you are an incredibly nice, sweet, loveable guy. Best of luck on your channel . Ive been playing 20 years so i kinda already know this stuff its just a little wet concrete still here and there and what i got from this video is that really hammering those seven chords in mainly the keys practical for guitar players so start at least so you can now transpose songs on the fly without having to blow a brain vessel. A very handy tool to have in your back pocket as a musician so I am very gratious. Keep it up bro, what else ya got for me? lol
Very informative lesson. I just have a question. Let say the song is in the key of C and has f minor in progression. If I change it to key of G it means, I need to use c minor?
So, for singing purposes you said if C is too high then change the key to B, if that is too high then change it to A . So what is the order on guitar?? Is it A,B,C,D,E,F,G lowest to highest ?? I am not sure but it seems that the key of E is the lowest???????
very interesting. Can you tune (detune) your guitar so that it is in a different key and there for use the chords that are noted in the original chords? I recently saw a video about a John Denver sound that was in the key of A, but it looked like he was using chords in a differnet key Thank you
Really hope someone here can help me..im learning a song with capo on 1st fret.using chord shapes of C G F Am...so what scales should i use to do some solo and lead stuff..im so confused..will it be c# scale or c scale? Thanks in advance
Thank you Tomas. When people have teachers like you, no time is wasted
Thank you!
Finally someone explained in such a simple way that even I get it... Thank you very much!!! 😊

U helped me
What’s a key up from G? Is it C? I have to change the chords “G,D,Am, & C” up a key. Idk what those chords turn into
Hi Jessica. You would just count up the musical alphabet. It goes A, B, C, D, E, F, G and then starts over. So... up a key from G would be ___?
Thank you very much
You are welcome
Really hope someone here can help me..im learning a song with capo on 1st fret.using chord shapes of C G F Am...so what scales should i use to do some solo and lead stuff..im so confused..will it be c# scale or c scale?
Thanks in advance
You're playing in the key of C# with the capo up one fret... so the C# scale is a good place to start.
Oooh i see now
Thankyou!!!!!
You're welcome Philip!
what to do if there are minor chords?
JOEL
If you use a capo, does that change key as well?
It does. If you put the capo on the first fret everything goes up 1/2 step. On the 2nd fret up one whole step, and so on.
Tq I learnt something
Keep watching
