Cool video! Thanks for posting but just to clarify... towards the end, he said the "a65 + kit lens for under a grand"... that's WITH the 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens NOT the new 16-50mm f2.8. But still a good deal. And OMG! I know the a77 is weather sealed but I can't imagine pouring water on it!
It's doing great! After using it for all this time, I won't jump back to OVF's anymore, electronic viewfinders just let you see what will your photo look like, very convenient. Till now, I've no problems with it.
Fantastic preview. This is the only video which offers an extensive outlook of the new alpha line. You should make an in-depth review after testing them. Great work
There was some concern about specular highlights 'ghosting' within direct light or high contrast areas of an image, but that was with the a55, not the a77. This was not a common problem and rarely presented but under perfect conditions. This was a result of Sony pushing the latest technology, which it has refined in the newer SLT models.
Best representation of the weather proof capability I have seen. I have the a65 on order, now I'm wondering if maybe I should cancel and get the 77 instead?
@mp4podcastDOTcom I believe what you're referring to is the chromatic aberration (not 'ghosting' - that's something entirely different) seen in high contrast photos (as seen in the A55) - in which case I should point out, the problem has been fixed with the A65 and A77 models.
I upgraded from an a200, (a workhorse I might add) to the a77 SLT this IS a magnificent camera! The thing is ...Not a lot of PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS like Sony. I've talked to sevral and they all say the smae thing, I have posted video and low light pics as well
The mirror might be ghosting problems. If you do night photography or night time city photography you might want to go with Nikon or Canon. Some people do not mind the ghosting problem but others do.
Many pro's blame the lens selection from Sony...But ALL Minolta AF lenses (Maxxum, etc) use the A-Mount system...SO THEY ALL WORK! That opens a whole new group of lenses to choose from for your camera. And they are way cheaper too...not the MD/MC mounts *although those work on the Sony NEX cameras...so you can finally get a 300 or even 500 lens for your NEX now! Good glass is good glass, no matter if its 2 yrs old, or 20 years old...
@CanadaBlue85: I'm going from the a100 to the a65 I think. The 77 is a bit too much money for me right now. Still though, it'll be great to go passed 1600 ISO haha
@mp4podcastDOTcom Ghosting due to the mirror? Are you making this up? I've not seen any examples of this and have shot plenty of still images and video at night with the a77. See for yourself in the TH-cam video I posted shot at night in NYC with the a77 (it comes up in the top 3 when you search TH-cam for the SLT-a77.)
@mcnamarareport The ghosting problem is very rare but under the right lighting it can show up. The older Sony models had the problem much more I think. Sony I think coated the mirror to reduce ghosting. But I saw a video on vimeo and some people say the problem is still there. I have to agree with you in turn. Sony set out to be Number 2 then Number 1 - it was their stated aim when they introduced their 1st DSLR. Well now some years later their DSLR's aren't huge sellers (yet) but their TECH is underpinning Nikon and of course their NEX series (now with Zeiss lenses) is beginning to look really interesting. Be many years before Nikon are replaced in the pro market but it HAS been done before - Canon were Number 2 until the age of AF. Very interesting....
7D is a great camera and I almost bought one, but the video feature really showed the 7D's age. My comment isn't about what cam is better than the other, it's what camera suits the individual...some folks continue to make it a brand war. If you were losing more than 1/3 of a stop of light using the A77 at the *most* (due to the translucent mirror) there was something seriously wrong with the camera/lens, your technique, or both. For my money, the A77 was far and away better...
@CanadaBlue85 A Nothing to A 77. Beat that one. LOL. Well I have an old film canon camera with decent lenses, but I need a serious DSLR with fast AF and fps. I don't want to go all out and go with 1D's so A77 is perfect for me.
@mikeismad61 i kinda agree with you. Sony is really pushing both Canon and Nikon very hard with their advancement and improvements. While Nikon have to depend on sony's sensor to survive, Canon, can, at least do something on their own. And with Carl Zeiss lenses in their line up. Sony is set to move forward, very fast! In a few years time, Sony might be able to dethrone nikon and claim the No.2 spot.
@mikeismad61 Yup! I thought i read it somewhere that SONY have taken the No. 2 spot in UK. Well, Both SONY and Canon are bigger company and have more cash than Nikon for R&D. Well Nikon is still good, its losing market share. I'm starting to feel that SLT vs SLR war is gonna end up the same as Film vs Digital. When technology gets better, EVF refresh rate keeps improving. I dont see why canikon will stick to OVF and with its slower FPS. I kinda like the informations being display in EVF.
ghosting was proved to be non-existent by dpreview's tests...they could not even get it to ghost when the tried to induce the phenomenon... Sony has finally outclassed the big boys with the a77... I know, that Nikon price you paid may be hard to swallow now that you can get the a77 w/ f/2.8!!! 16-50 for the same as that D7100 body alone!
If you taking lots of shots in low light situation, stay away from these two camera and go with Canon 5 D Mk 2.....Canon image sensor is full size, it'd pick up every thing just like an eagle eye. I just returned my A 65.
This dogma about Canon and Nikon superiority is getting tiresome. The 5D Mk II is almost 2X as much as this camera and is a full frame sensor camera. The 7D is probably the closest competitor in price but nowhere near the features of the A77. ALL cameras will slow down when the buffer is full and will only "burst" for a limited time. Your comments are generic and ignorant.

@MajorEasley i want one so badly! :(... waiting for it to hit stores... im so impatient!

A100 to A77 for me.......what an insane improvement that will be :)
great preview, for the next year I'll upgrade my A200 with the A65 for sure!!!

@fluffyman15 I I just stepped up from the a300 to a77! Solid piece of camera with solid performance. No regrets.
@roflastc Nope. The SLT-a65 does not have a battery-grip option.
@nghanshing
glad to hear that, have fun :)

i want this.
Good video, thanks!
Awesome!
Great reviews but the music is like I'm listening to an AM news broadcast on a cheap radio.

a65: 'Only' 10 frames per second...? ;o)
Sony a300 to sony a77 for me! :D
Sony, the king.

NIKON - SONY are on your case!
Ah well NIKON owners can always fall back on the new and crapy V1 & J1
Mark my words - 2012 does NOT belong to NIKON
