Hey y'all, just wanted to point out a mistake I made. Apparently "Blair White" and "iilluminaughtii" are two different TH-camrs, and the Blair behind iilluminaughtii is not Blair White. EDIT (8/24/2024): Yes I know Linus isn't bad anymore. I wish I waited a whole year to make this, that way there would be several other TH-camrs who actually belong here. This is the worst video I've ever made and I hate it.
If you REALLY wanna watch a bunch of youtubers get exposed to be monsters, have a look at the roblox community. The company is slowly bending towards dating inside a kids game, and roblox youtubers or notable users pretty much on a regular basis get exposed as groomers. There are tons of incidents in the past and new incidents just keep coming

When I was like 10-12 (3-5 years ago) I was active in the Roblox community, and I’ve seen so many predators get exposed in only like 2 years it’s crazy, but it makes a lot of sense that pedophiles are apart of a community full of children.
its the same feeling as going abroad and being able to talk with people, no matter who, knowing you wont ever really meet them again so nothing could happen to you except its the same for both sides, and thats why youre comfortable. you can open up, instead of fear judgement
as someone who used to watch callmecarson and wilbur soot, this video hits hard i loved watching wilbur soot streams/videos, listening to his band lovejoy, and felt super safe and had fun in his community, but after his ex came out about the abuse she went through with him, it shattered my trust to content creators, and made me feel so stupid for supporting him to begin with
I try not fall in the possible trap of getting emotionally connected to people i dont know, but the one time something did get to me was not a youtuber going bad, but what happened to technoblade, im not really a mincraft guy, but losing him was heartbreaking
i feel like this is something so different because a whole human life is valuable and it’s good to have compassion regardless of how close you are to them. i only watched him for a short time but i emotionally understood how painful it was for both the people around him and also that he was an amazing creator and him being aware of what was happening to him just makes it objectively painful to think about. don’t feel guilty for being human
Never watched him when he was alive, but his death was really sad to me and the last video he EVER made before he died where he says “I’ll be back in the next video” is super sad and I legit almost cried.😢

honestly as another """high functioning""" autistic person i was also a fan of the illuminaughty (not just for her autism video essays but her others aswell) so when i heard about the bad things she did i too was kinda saddened that a creator i liked turned out to be such a sucky person (though i do keep semi up to date with the drama)
I've not only experienced this with youtubers but other entertainers who have turned out to be horrible people. I really makes me think there are no good people in this world. Just those who get caught and those who get away with it.
Nobody's perfect, but many people just let themselves go, I think. They fall for some temptation or other, maybe deceive themselves if it isn't something that is obviously bad at first sight, and just slide further and further down the slope until something happens that brings it to light or stops them, or they get caught and prosecuted or something. Sometimes they reform, sometimes they never understand that it is their unwillingness to stand up to their instincts that is their downfall. We rule ourselves with reason or we are ruled by our instincts (and other people can rule us through our instincts too). If a person isn't able to go without some incentive or reward for the sake of the greater good, then they are ripe for addiction to bad behaviour or any other sort of addiction.
When I learned about all the stuff about Illuminaughtii, I was honestly dumbfounded. She prided herself as being a channel to expose corrupt schemes and awful businesses for their shady dealings. Only for her to do much much worse things than even the things she covered. I used to watch her videos ALL the time and found them very intriguing.
I wouldn't say LTT turned bad. They screwed up in a few places, but they already knew about that. Hence why they hired a new CEO to fix those issues. They then took the criticism, and gave an outline for their future goals, then started meeting those goals. I don't really know what else you can do.
MiniLadd, also known as Craig Thompson, was one of the funniest content creators, had one hell of a personality, and always seemed to be a respectful person. He used to be apart of the VanossGaming group for years, playing GTA V and Garry's Mod, playing with Vanoss, H2ODelirious, fourzer0, etc. Even after they split, Craig continued to thrive with making content, playing with other friends such as BigJigglyPanda, fourzer0 (again), etc. He made live streams known as Meme Streams where people would donate to play videos for him to watch, and said money he made would go to certain charities. Everything was going well for him, until someone by the name of Halley mentioned that he had been grooming her and another girl named Ash, both minors under 18, and had used the excuse of *unaliving* to get them to not say anything. Eventually they both spoke up, he made his pathetic "apology" video and I haven't watched another video since. Now here's me, someone who was nearly idolizing him, would watch his content as soon as it came out, over anyone else's. I see videos popping up, and my go to reaction is to dismiss them, that is until I watch one of them and I realize they're completely right... and I'm devastated. Someone who I once nearly idolized, was a pedophile. And I was shattered. I know how you feel about ProJared, but at least he was innocent. MiniLadd... is absolutely not.
the projared example is exactly why im never going to put myself out there and try to become a youtuber or public figure. you can lose everything over literally nothing in that field. even if you manage to fully disprove everything and prove youre 100% innocent, the damage will already be done. your loyal "fans" will already have turned on you like a pack of wolves and leave you with nothing as soon as they hear someone accuse you of not being perfect with no verified proof
I don't feel like LTT turned into a villain. Yeah, they messed up, but I feel like people are exaggerating things a lot. They have looked into and fixed their issues with inaccuracies in their videos. So that likely won't be a problem in the future, and if it happens they have now set up ways for the community to help them fix it, and for them to better fix it after the video has been posted. The auction thing was because they messed up in communication with billet labs, and internally too, it wasn't to be evil, it was because a sequence of mistakes. The allegations are still allegations and the only evidence is "trust me bro". Also, Gamers Nexus only exposed LTT because they got mentioned by an employee at LTT who said something they shouldn't have during a tour of their office. So it feels more like them being annoyed and making LTT look as bad as possible instead of mentioning it because it is an issue. Also, Gamers Nexus tries to portray their video as something that doesn't benefit them, but it does.
I don't think it benefits them, it more likely just annoys them to see constant complaints from their diehard fans to see the half-assed processes from Linus Media Group and their hypocrisy. Because many of the mistakes pointed out are some that even I remembered as an LTT viewer. Linus Tech Tips had been marketing itself as not just entertainment but as factual, precise, and worthy of your trust. Linus, specifically, likely due to his inadequacy, wants to have his cake and eat it, too. He sets up a huge lab and invest in all of this staff to make the fabled repository of 3rd party tested knowledge that he envisions (very cool idea btw) yet when it's shown that they are flawed he does the "we make mistakes, we're sorry" instead of actually improving things. I don't know if it was laziness, lack of direction, negligence, or what... The staff at LMG knew there were a lot of issues with how they were running things: too much output with little time, production that's too streamlined, many new staff and no one to train the new staff, the misunderstaning that being transparent of potential conflicts of interest negates that conflict of interest (ahem, Framework, ahem, ASUS is LMG's largest sponsor by a mile, etc). Nevertheless, the problems just festered as they were. Seemingly, no one had it in them to put a stop to things and fix things. Honestly, they needed that critique to grow as a company, it didn't have to be GamersNexus even, yet they fumbled hard from the start in their response. Although, I was glad to see them take at least a week off to focus on restructuring and improving.

Gamers Nexus was butthurt about a comment one LTT employee made during one office tour, that ended up in a handheld video of a fan, so he did an "expose" without reaching out for facts or comment from the other side, doubled and tipled down, and when LTT came back with receipts decided to NEVER MENTION THIS GIANTIC L AGAIN, but also never retracted his massive inaccuracies. He was very right on some quality issues, but dropped the ball completly on the monoblock auction thing, pulling conclusions from his ass and showing them as facts, assuming the only scenario where those are not facts is a stupid comedy of errors, and LTT came with receipts on the stupid comedy of errors. GN had so little integrity that he never issued a retraction of his literal slander, and it would be very bad look for LTT to sue, so he is probably safe...

He had a fan send it back so he could give it back to the company he admitted they stole it from. He also issued a public apology extremely quickly after all of his fans called him out on it.

Nice short video, I kinda wish that you linked to a video or two that you felt had best showed or explained what occurred with said shown instances however I did find out about the Linus situation and now plan to look into the illuminaughty one. This video is a good reminder about how really youtubers are just the face of a TV show, as long as their entertaining we don't care until the bad news behind them causes them to be no longer entertaining or causes major trouble for them.
You didn't go into detail with him but seeing Cryoatic in the top right kind of stung. It felt like you put my thoughts into words and Cryoatic was that kind of creator for me. Its crazy how much of an impact these people have and how devastating their demise can be for their fan-bases.
resonate with this a lot as two of my favourite creators growing up were Skydoesminecraft and Miniladd, I still to this day occasionally struggle to comprehend how these individuals (who proudly portrayed themselves as uplifting and fun creators) would choose to ruin their careers in such horrible ways. I mean these people were huge and yet stupid decisions managed to effectively kick them off the platform for good.

Honestly, for me the one "betrayal" that hurt the most was gus jhonson being an abusive partner, i absolutely loved his content, and it was that much shocking because of the relationship between him and his fanbase, its the last person id expect to do that kind of stuff. LTT was a honest mistake. They overhauled their entire company to make sure that dosent happen. They acknowledged the problem and CLOSED PRODUCTION for a week or 2. You know how much money that cost? To pay that many people when your company isn't making money? Them auctioning another company's item was a mistake made by one of the hundreds of employees. They gave the company a blank check for it. The company never posted anything about being mad or owed by LTT. So it's clearly fine. Idk why so many people so mad at the LTT team. THEY TURNED IT AROUND. They want people to let them know if they're fucking up.
You know how much it cost Billet Labs to have their priceless prototype illegally sold? You know how much it costs to hire a woman and have her NOT get sexually harassed? LTT had a chance, but Linus’ forum response showed what matters to him.
I was having a kind of crisis about this exact sentiment. There are people I look up to and admire the work of, and it hurts to think they could be terrible people too, like others I've looked up to before them. It's awful and I hate that we have to do this same song and dance every year. Is it that fucking hard to be a decent human being?
Tbh, just focus on yourself. None of these people are worried about people like you and me. YT is more concerned with advocating for monsters and not real authentic personalities - in order to rake in revenue (at least that's what it seems to me anyway). But that being said, there are a lot of good youtubers...the key is to look for them and decide who best fits your inspiration.

What makes Hitler so terrifying? He was a man, just like anyone else. He got into a position of power, and created a cult of personality that excuses some of the worst crime against humanity. Admire and worship these youtubers are to me, almost the same as that. The world is fucking shite, and to be frank, you just have to focus on yourself and your path for improvement.
Parasocial relationships are dangerous, and if you fall into one that leaves you open for manipulation. Always be skeptical of people, be slow to trust.
Something like this happened in the Geometry Dash community. The bigger youtuber BY FAR is a Spanish guy called GuitarHeroStyles, he uploaded daily for around 7 years, and was the face of the entire community. You could say he was the person who carried the game to not die after not having a single update since 2017. However, in 2021, he was exposed for a lot of things, dming 14 year old girls and calling them weird nicknames with sexual jokes, sending photos of his boner, and basically harassing minors. It all got worsened because he was friends with a female youtuber called Juniper (who was a minor a the time), so his intentions with her were clear. All of his friends called him out for that, and in the beginning he actually gave an apology AND ADMITTED TO IT ALL. Only to delete it two days after, and continue uploading content just as if nothing had ever happened, manipulating his fanbase (which now consists of hispanic children who don't know the truth) and telling lies. Now, two years later, he's still uploading content, however he will never be able to come back in the community, and even if his channel is still growing, he will always have this stain.
I am so happy my favorite TH-camr DanTDM that I have been watching for a lot of years since childhood isn't like the TH-camrs mentioned here and is just a genuine guy making content

The allegations against LTT look like stock issues that a small businesses trying to grow to a new level deal with. Not everybody knows everybody anymore but they aren't experienced with HR and quality processes at scale and it's easy to sweep things under the rug when you're focused on growth and the things you're doing look like they're working and you miss the accumulation of process debt. But I just started watching LTT a few months before the recent controversy so I never knew him/them as a small creator so none of my emotional investment is in Linus as a small creator. They had just hired a new CEO before this story broke because Linus felt their current course was unsustainable for him and needed someone with more professional business experience. When the controversies broke my brain went "that tracks. Hope they figure their shit out"
The corporate screwups of Linus Media Group are not very comparable to the other "villain" stories mentioned here. Personally, it was the initial public reaction of Linus where he (clearly) was out of the loop and immediately tried to deflect that really put me off for a few weeks.
These weren't allegations. LTT just straight up sold prototype tech they weren't allowed to and bankrupted a small business. That's inexcusable no matter what.
In the mario kart wii community there was a great youtuber named creepyproduce that I loved to watch. His channel grew so popular it was crazy. But then he groomed a minor and it all went to sh*t 💀
The Linus Tech Tips one is a weak example. He responded quite quickly to the allegations. He provided a stupid yet understandable reason for the auction fiasco, of which he didn't even keep any of the proceeds, they were for charity. Plus most of the other tech youtubers love to blow this stuff out of proportion, because "omg linus screwed up" is a fantastic way to get clicks. Thats not a bad thing, it helps keep linus accountable, but it is overinflated
Corl and amor were the kickers for me personally, they weren't pioneers, but they were the part of the second coming in fnf and roblox. It's like a water cooler with rat poison inside, then someone survived the rat poison, and it al, came flooding out
They were not that really good even in the first place. They pretend to be good in the first place, and as time passes by, their real bad persona reveals.

Ngl I really liked the video, but it felt incomplete to me, maybe that's partially my fault, since I was expecting something more like "Why good youtubers turn bad?" instead of "When good youtubers turn bad". There is most likely more that I'm either not remembering or who have yet to be discovered as horrible people but it seriously messes up your ability to trust other TH-camrs when you realize how easy it is for them to fake who they are. I get it's part of the job to show one side of themselves online but at the same time it hurts to know when you supported a horrible person and never noticed the red flags

MiniLadd, also known as Craig Thompson, was one of the funniest content creators, had one hell of a personality, and always seemed to be a respectful person. He used to be apart of the VanossGaming group for years, playing GTA V and Garry's Mod, playing with Vanoss, H2ODelirious, fourzer0, etc.
Even after they split, Craig continued to thrive with making content, playing with other friends such as BigJigglyPanda, fourzer0 (again), etc. He made live streams known as Meme Streams where people would donate to play videos for him to watch, and said money he made would go to certain charities.
Everything was going well for him, until someone by the name of Halley mentioned that he had been grooming her and another girl named Ash, both minors under 18, and had used the excuse of *unaliving* to get them to not say anything. Eventually they both spoke up, he made his pathetic "apology" video and I haven't watched another video since.
Now here's me, someone who was nearly idolizing him, would watch his content as soon as it came out, over anyone else's. I see videos popping up, and my go to reaction is to dismiss them, that is until I watch one of them and I realize they're completely right... and I'm devastated. Someone who I once nearly idolized, was a pedophile. And I was shattered.
I know how you feel about ProJared, but at least he was innocent. MiniLadd... is absolutely not.

the projared example is exactly why im never going to put myself out there and try to become a youtuber or public figure. you can lose everything over literally nothing in that field. even if you manage to fully disprove everything and prove youre 100% innocent, the damage will already be done. your loyal "fans" will already have turned on you like a pack of wolves and leave you with nothing as soon as they hear someone accuse you of not being perfect with no verified proof

I don't feel like LTT turned into a villain. Yeah, they messed up, but I feel like people are exaggerating things a lot.
They have looked into and fixed their issues with inaccuracies in their videos. So that likely won't be a problem in the future, and if it happens they have now set up ways for the community to help them fix it, and for them to better fix it after the video has been posted.
The auction thing was because they messed up in communication with billet labs, and internally too, it wasn't to be evil, it was because a sequence of mistakes.
The allegations are still allegations and the only evidence is "trust me bro".
Also, Gamers Nexus only exposed LTT because they got mentioned by an employee at LTT who said something they shouldn't have during a tour of their office. So it feels more like them being annoyed and making LTT look as bad as possible instead of mentioning it because it is an issue. Also, Gamers Nexus tries to portray their video as something that doesn't benefit them, but it does.
I don't think it benefits them, it more likely just annoys them to see constant complaints from their diehard fans to see the half-assed processes from Linus Media Group and their hypocrisy. Because many of the mistakes pointed out are some that even I remembered as an LTT viewer.
Linus Tech Tips had been marketing itself as not just entertainment but as factual, precise, and worthy of your trust. Linus, specifically, likely due to his inadequacy, wants to have his cake and eat it, too. He sets up a huge lab and invest in all of this staff to make the fabled repository of 3rd party tested knowledge that he envisions (very cool idea btw) yet when it's shown that they are flawed he does the "we make mistakes, we're sorry" instead of actually improving things.
I don't know if it was laziness, lack of direction, negligence, or what... The staff at LMG knew there were a lot of issues with how they were running things: too much output with little time, production that's too streamlined, many new staff and no one to train the new staff, the misunderstaning that being transparent of potential conflicts of interest negates that conflict of interest (ahem, Framework, ahem, ASUS is LMG's largest sponsor by a mile, etc). Nevertheless, the problems just festered as they were. Seemingly, no one had it in them to put a stop to things and fix things.
Honestly, they needed that critique to grow as a company, it didn't have to be GamersNexus even, yet they fumbled hard from the start in their response. Although, I was glad to see them take at least a week off to focus on restructuring and improving.

Honestly, the behaviour from Linus fanboys, the "unless he kills someone on camera there's nothing wrong here and people claiming he has an inflated ego are just haters" irritated me more than LTT being sloppy.

Why is LTT even here
this is literally jumping on a trend, without researching anything. Gamers Nexus was butthurt about a comment one LTT employee made during one office tour, that ended up in a handheld video of a fan, so he did an "expose" without reaching out for facts or comment from the other side, doubled and tipled down, and when LTT came back with receipts decided to NEVER MENTION THIS GIANTIC L AGAIN, but also never retracted his massive inaccuracies.
He was very right on some quality issues, but dropped the ball completly on the monoblock auction thing, pulling conclusions from his ass and showing them as facts, assuming the only scenario where those are not facts is a stupid comedy of errors, and LTT came with receipts on the stupid comedy of errors. GN had so little integrity that he never issued a retraction of his literal slander, and it would be very bad look for LTT to sue, so he is probably safe...

He had a fan send it back so he could give it back to the company he admitted they stole it from. The company thanked him and gave it to gamersnexus to give it a chance in the scenario it was designed for, rather than giving it back to the guy who said the company's reputation wasn't worth the employee (iirc he said 500 dollars) time to test it with the card it was designed for. He also issued a public apology extremely quickly after all of his fans called him out on it.
Man I got so bored of both sides that it barely matters any more. It just seems like the Alistair Crowley view of the world; even bad press is good press - make sure to do something unhinged occasionally to gain some followers, further polarize your audience, and create loyalists you can pump for merch.

Nice short video, I kinda wish that you linked to a video or two that you felt had best showed or explained what occurred with said shown instances however I did find out about the Linus situation and now plan to look into the illuminaughty one. This video is a good reminder about how really youtubers are just the face of a TV show, as long as their entertaining we don't care until the bad news behind them causes them to be no longer entertaining or causes major trouble for them.

You didn't go into detail with him but seeing Cryoatic in the top right kind of stung. It felt like you put my thoughts into words and Cryoatic was that kind of creator for me. Its crazy how much of an impact these people have and how devastating their demise can be for their fan-bases.
resonate with this a lot as two of my favourite creators growing up were Skydoesminecraft and Miniladd, I still to this day occasionally struggle to comprehend how these individuals (who proudly portrayed themselves as uplifting and fun creators) would choose to ruin their careers in such horrible ways. I mean these people were huge and yet stupid decisions managed to effectively kick them off the platform for good.

Honestly, for me the one "betrayal" that hurt the most was gus jhonson being an abusive partner, i absolutely loved his content, and it was that much shocking because of the relationship between him and his fanbase, its the last person id expect to do that kind of stuff. Its also weird that i saw absolutely NO ONE talk about this, especially considering how big he was, and how much he collabed with other youtubers

LTT was a honest mistake. They overhauled their entire company to make sure that dosent happen. They acknowledged the problem and CLOSED PRODUCTION for a week or 2. You know how much money that cost? To pay that many people when your company isn't making money? Them auctioning another company's item was a mistake made by one of the hundreds of employees. They gave the company a blank check for it. The company never posted anything about being mad or owed by LTT. So it's clearly fine. Idk why so many people so mad at the LTT team. THEY TURNED IT AROUND. They want people to let them know if they're fucking up.
You know how much it cost Billet Labs to have their priceless prototype illegally sold? You know how much it costs to hire a woman and have her NOT get sexually harassed? LTT had a chance, but Linus’ forum response showed what matters to him.

I was having a kind of crisis about this exact sentiment. There are people I look up to and admire the work of, and it hurts to think they could be terrible people too, like others I've looked up to before them. It's awful and I hate that we have to do this same song and dance every year. Is it that fucking hard to be a decent human being?
Tbh, just focus on yourself. None of these people are worried about people like you and me. YT is more concerned with advocating for monsters and not real authentic personalities - in order to rake in revenue (at least that's what it seems to me anyway). But that being said, there are a lot of good youtubers...the key is to look for them and decide who best fits your inspiration.

What makes Hitler so terrifying? He was a man, just like anyone else. He got into a position of power, and created a cult of personality that excuses some of the worst crime against humanity. Admire and worship these youtubers are to me, almost the same as that. The world is fucking shite, and to be frank, you just have to focus on yourself and your path for improvement.

Something like this happened in the Geometry Dash community. The bigger youtuber BY FAR is a Spanish guy called GuitarHeroStyles, he uploaded daily for around 7 years, and was the face of the entire community. You could say he was the person who carried the game to not die after not having a single update since 2017.
However, in 2021, he was exposed for a lot of things, dming 14 year old girls and calling them weird nicknames with sexual jokes, sending photos of his boner, and basically harassing minors. It all got worsened because he was friends with a female youtuber called Juniper (who was a minor a the time), so his intentions with her were clear. All of his friends called him out for that, and in the beginning he actually gave an apology AND ADMITTED TO IT ALL. Only to delete it two days after, and continue uploading content just as if nothing had ever happened, manipulating his fanbase (which now consists of hispanic children who don't know the truth) and telling lies.
Now, two years later, he's still uploading content, however he will never be able to come back in the community, and even if his channel is still growing, he will always have this stain.
Gotta say, man, I love your content! I'm looking forward to seeing your channel continue to grow, you're making some awesome stuff!

Can't wait for when in 5 years, at the highest popularity of this channel, it will come to light that you're a serial killer. Only then you'll become a real youtuber.
The allegations against LTT look like stock issues that a small businesses trying to grow to a new level deal with. Not everybody knows everybody anymore but they aren't experienced with HR and quality processes at scale and it's easy to sweep things under the rug when you're focused on growth and the things you're doing look like they're working and you miss the accumulation of process debt.
But I just started watching LTT a few months before the recent controversy so I never knew him/them as a small creator so none of my emotional investment is in Linus as a small creator. They had just hired a new CEO before this story broke because Linus felt their current course was unsustainable for him and needed someone with more professional business experience. When the controversies broke my brain went "that tracks. Hope they figure their shit out"

Personally, it was the initial public reaction of Linus where he (clearly) was out of the loop and immediately tried to deflect that really put me off for a few weeks.

The Linus Tech Tips one is a weak example. He responded quite quickly to the allegations. He provided a stupid yet understandable reason for the auction fiasco, of which he didn't even keep any of the proceeds, they were for charity. Plus most of the other tech youtubers love to blow this stuff out of proportion, because "omg linus screwed up" is a fantastic way to get clicks. Thats not a bad thing, it helps keep linus accountable, but it is overinflated

Ngl I really liked the video, but it felt incomplete to me, maybe that's partially my fault, since I was expecting something more like "Why good youtubers turn bad?" instead of "When good youtubers turn bad". I felt there could be a really cool discussion about personality, parasocialism and the things people decide to show about themselves on the internet compared to the human tendency to create bonds and trust over time, even when it is with people you don't know at all, but even so, great work!

the youtubers who I loved watching who turned out to be horrible people in some way or another have been: Blaire white, MandJtv,Illuminaughtii, SunnyV2, Leafyishere, CreepShowArt. There is most likely more that I'm either not remembering or who have yet to be discovered as horrible people but it seriously messes up your ability to trust other TH-camrs when you realize how easy it is for them to fake who they are. I get it's part of the job to show one side of themselves online but at the same time it hurts to know when you supported a horrible person and never noticed the red flags
