- Back in January, over two dozen people were arrested for selling fake transcripts and degrees to aspiring nurses in an operation called “Operation Nightingale.” After an investigation by the US Attorney’s Office it was revealed that of the 7600 people who purchased these fake diplomas, a third of them somehow passed the board exams and qualified to obtain nursing licenses in their states despite them not completing the coursework or clinical requirements. In this episode of TSR Investigates, we dug a little deeper and discovered that many of the aspiring nurses that were targeted were Black immigrants. We were also able to speak with several attorneys representing the nurses caught up in the operation to see how the states plan to move forward with the investigation. However, could there be more to this story than simple greed? The Shade Room investigates…

I live in Florida and I’m currently in a RN program. Thank God me and my classmates don’t have to go through this.

@@MissLena35 That is amazing. I started off as a CNA. Than became an LPN. I did the bridge program but was not successful. It was too much for me to learn without the schools support. So I dropped out. Than a went to a regular RN program (which is only an extra 6 months). Because of that pace I did really well bc the pace was much better. I went back again for my BSN. That was the easiest. Anyway Im sorry it was so long. I just know sometimes those ADN bridge programs look glamorous for the one year but dont tell the rest of the story.
I worked during the pandemic in Florida and couldn't understand how every Haitian had a nursing license. Now it makes sense.
I graduated from 2 very well accredited nursing schools in Florida. Sheridan Tech for LPN and Miami-Dade College for RN. Many of my classmates were from Haiti. South Florida is a melting pot. Diversified. Many minorities go for the manual labor and short careers because we have families to take care of. Sure I would’ve loved being an Engineer, a Dr or an Attorney. I just wasn’t going to be able to wait that long to graduate and obtain my licenses.

This has got to be just upsetting if you legitimately went to the school and did the work but the school was a scam. Sad. And it prolly coast them an arm and a leg too.

I almost got duped by a school like this in Atlanta. They had an accelerated program advertised where if you worked in allied health already you could apply some of your clinical hours and related undergrad classes (like certain bio and anatomy classes) to shortening the diploma to 9 months.

I just learned about this but I'm having trouble finding solid information about it even though it's old news. I'm confused about how they were knowledgeable enough to pass the exam if they didn't do the classes. Were they previously nurses in Haiti looking for a shortcut to a US license? I know it can be difficult for people in the medical field in other countries to obtain licensure here sometimes. And I can't see someone with no nursing background passing the exam.

Double jeopardy 🚙 is specific to the court charging people with crimes, and isn't part of the practice of criminal background checks for potential employees. Regardless - are you saying that nurses shouldn't have their criminal history checked or that nurses should be allowed to work if they have been convicted of crimes?
