Part of Paul's power is that he can see the past present and the future. So Janis taught all those skills and had all those conversations with Duncan when he met the Freman. Right before you start seeing him have "conversations" with Janis you see him have a vision of Duncan up on the hill with Janis and his crew.
@@crystalscolza1663 He sees versions of the future and it's hard to make out which one comes true. Like Yoda said 'Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future.' But the Kwisatz Haderach will have clarity to bridge the gap and see.
The visions are just possibilities. One of the possible outcomes was that Jamis would have been Pauls teacher instead of him killing him in the duel. But because Paul doesnt have control of the visions, he's just getting bits and pieces of them, he doesnt have enough information to choose which path to take. He's still living like us without knowing how to influence the future. If he could somehow get more control over the visions, he would be able to better influence the path he takes/the future. Its like living in a multiple choice test, A/B/C/D and you pick which one you want, "if I pick A, the future is this, and if I pick B the future does that" etc etc IF he had control of the visions.
I'm definitely here for the Story of Dune. Grew up watching and reading this series with my dad. You guys definitely gotta watch part 2 right after this.
Loved y’all reaction to this movie not a lot of people who react to this movie get what’s going on but y’all kinda did can’t wait for part 2. Y’all got a new subscriber
I had the same story about obtaining the book. I saw the 1984 movie then read the book. To this day I read the book at least every two years. I love the Fear is the Mind Killer mantra.
The abilities of the "Mentat" and the "Bene Geserit" are Not powers you are born with but rather Skills that one develops, for example "The Voice", Paul's mother, who is a Bene Geserit, teaches Paul how to use "The Voice"(along with many other skills).
What has always stuck with me is this concept of Paul having access to multiple possible futures including one where he and Jamis are best friends. So he can still literally learn from Jamis by tapping into that future that never happens. Once Jamis is gone he might not be able to commune with that possible future anymore (because it is no longer possible), but he still remembers the lessons from when he could see it. Jamis had some wise words too. The decision to challenge Paul, and thus die, was all on him though. Nothing Paul could do about that. Still.... Jamis will always reverberate forward into eternity.
Dune 2 is even better! Yall are going to love it. Also, Jessica did not step out on Leto. It's his child. The Bene Gesserit are told to only bear daughters but she broke that rule and beared a son (paul) because she loved him, she would've never stepped out on Leto. Another thing, think of Jamis's death as Paul's key to learning the ways of the desert and being fremen
Paul's eyes turn blue with spice use. That's why all the Fremen have blue eyes, from extended exposure to spice. Not just using it intentionally, but it's saturated into everything on Arakkis, the food, the water, everything. Also the child Jessica is pregnant with is the Duke's child, not from an actual Fremen father.
Also, something crucial is that Duke Leto Atreides IS a good man and a loving partner and father... if Jessica hadn't fallen in love with Leto, she wouldn't have had Paul. But Leto wanted a son, so she GAVE him one! It changes everything.
Paul wasn’t reading the Fremen Judge Lady’s mind nor did it have anything to do with the voice or the one. He heard her speaking Fremen to herself as she recalled a part of the Prophecy that the One would know things.
I think Paul is able to briefly see into his own near future. He is able to see what he says to someone a minute or two ahead. Then he just recites back what he saw in real time.
The doctor knew that his wife wasn’t going to get away alive, and that he’d be killed too once he wasn’t useful anymore. But she was being kept alive and tortured horribly. The freedom for his wife he actually hoped for was just an end to the torture, being allowed to die.
Someone already pointed out that the visions are just possible futures and not necessarily the future that Paul will actually live but I want to add that they're also highly metaphorical. When in his vision Jamis tells him "I will teach you the ways of the desert", that does actually happen. By killing Jamis, Paul learns the harshest law of the desert, and it allows him to start down the path of becoming Fremen. It's truly a beautifully written story
57:25, many of the heads of the great houses are related by bloodlines. In the Dune books it is actually the Emperor who is Duke Leto’s cousin not the Baron. Fun fact, the Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam who tested Paul is his grandmother. She is Jessica’s mother. This was made canon in a Dune prequel book. So many of the deadliest enemies of the Atreides are actually their own family. But money and power matter far more to these folks than bloodlines.

There are a lot of books in the story. And when you said he might not be the one but if they have a kid together.... You are absolutely on the right track..their kids are a big deal!
Whats crazy is Paul also has Mentat training which turns his mind into a calculator which might be a massive reason why Paul was able to see accurate visions in the first place

The thing about Paul Killing Jamis is that Paul's dream showed him being a friend and teaching him the ways of the desert But if you remember when the Bene Gesserit Witch asked him about whether his dreams come true just as he dreamed them, he said "Not exactly" One could argue that Jamis taught him the ways of the desert people of Arrakis... Considering the political vipers that are circling around Duke Paul Atreides trying to destroy him and his family, Jamis could've been no better friend... whether it is what he intended.... So it did happen, just not as he dreamed it. Lisan al-Gaib!
Jessica wasn't cheating with a Fremen, that baby is Leto's, they are both loving partners and have both made sacrifices in different ways to be with each other (Jessica going behind the Benne Gesserit's back to give Leto a son and protect a potential daughter from being bred with Harkkonens and Leto passing up political alliances with different houses by refusing political marriages to stay loyal to Jessica)
The Voice isnt something that youre necessarily born with. It can be learned. It is a secret art of the Bene Gesserit. Jessica defied her Order and had a son and taught him the Bene Gesserit ways to try to make him into the Quisach Haderach (chosen one basically). I could go on and on about Dune lore lol. I love the series. Also what my mans gonna tell Chani? “I been seeing them cheeks in my dreams shawty” 😂😂

I love this movie. But it’s structured in a really weird way. It’s not really the first part of a trilogy. It’s basically a really long prologue to set up the second movie.
