Happy 94th birthday to Queen Elizabeth II (April 21st, 2020)! Here is a tribute to her mum, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.
Please consider supporting me at / lindsayholiday and help me make more fascinating videos!
Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was the first non-royal to marry an English monarch in 400 years. She took on the unexpected mantle of Queen when her brother in law abdicated amid scandal and was a national symbol of strength in WWII. As Queen mother she bolstered the reign of her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II.

that remark about getting better at living without your spouse hits me hard, my grandparents are in their 70s and they just had their golden anniversary 2 years ago. My grandpa can't literally do anything when they go for strolls in Malls, bc he always let's my Grandma do everything (order food, pay for shopping, buy medicine), even when my Grandma had surgery on her toes, she had to come up to the machine where you pay for the stuff you bought bc my Grandpa was too shy to ask the people in charge. They're so inseparable that when my Grandma wakes up at 2am, and wants to have a cup of coffee, she'll wake up Grandpa so he'll accompany her in the kitchen, then they go back to their room. I know its wrong for me to think this way, but my heart breaks for the thought of either one of them going ahead, and leaving one behind.

I understand your sentiments exactly. Grandma and Grandpa were inseparable for 59 years until Grandpa died in 2018, peacefully, the way he lived: at ass o'clock in the morning! Ever since then, Grandma has been adrift, and even though my parents have offered for her to move in, she prefers to live in the house she lived with Grandpa in.

It’s amazing how love can survive death. My father’s parents were married nearly 75 years & had “dated” for years before that. They literally finished each other’s sentences. He passed first & she moved in with us. We all noticed that when we were not in the room with her she had conversations with someone. Thinking about it & the answers she gave or questions she asked followed a pause. In that pause was just enough time for him to answer her. He was with her until she passed a few years later. I know it was him. It made her very happy.

For 50 years she was titled Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and most people knew her as the Queen Mum. The guy who did "The King's Speech" movie said he promised not to publish the story until after her death, but she lived so long that he didn't realize it would take so long to wait. There's a video of the queens at a horse race late in life where the Queen can be heard calling her "mummy". She was small but a real dynamo.

Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon became Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1904 after the death of her grandfather, and her father acceded to the Earldom of Strathmore and Kinghorne. Before that she was known as the Right Honourable Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. She had the same title of Lady, as her sister in law Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester (wife of Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester and younger brother to Albert), but she was the daughter of a Duke, not an Earl as Elizabeth was. The Duke of Buccleuch to be precise. To us Brits she was never referenced as Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon but the Queen Mother out of respect and still never is. The last princess of the blood royal to marry into the Royal Family was Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark. She married Prince George, Duke of Kent who sadly died in 1942. She was a first cousin to the Duke of Edinburgh.

(No offense intended with this tale) one quiet evening, the QM stepped out of her rooms & seeing two footmen talking asked if one of those “queens would mind mixing another drink for this old Queen”. She was very humorous & her father-in-law adored her. Many books have been written about her, but my fav is the one with the photo of her at about 6-8 years old. But it is true, that she married in love with Bertie and it means a lot when she had to support her husband in the good and bad times; as the bows required to be marriage.
    She was a glamorous Royal.🌷🌹🌹
