❤LOVE Eva. Nice orchestral arrangement by the LSO. She was a gift to all of us. Long may she dwell in our hearts. I cannot listen to her without tears of joy and sadness.❤️
No words to describe the journey I've just been on. I know of Eva and her story and thought I'd heard all she'd done, and knew this album would be released but what a joy to come upon this tonight, in the middle of a blizzard, after a day yesterday of immense sorrow which gave way to the inner strength I have to carry on no matter what. I'm no stranger to music of all genres, but I can say I've never heard this one before, and now twice I've listened and it's as if time itself stopped, and all my long lost loved ones are here again, right in this room. It's a pure, crystalline, meditative feeling, a peaceful one. My family were from East Coast Canada, and I born in Toronto, but I immediately connected with the Celtic, Atlantic feel of the song, which I will now do some research on. Such an incredible gift, for which I am so grateful, and have shared and will listen to often. Imagine one so talented, that music must be written for an entire Orchestra to masterfully work posthumously with a recording from the 90's. Just stunning, in every way. Thank you to Eva, her family and the LSO for this masterpiece.
If you want to feel the utter desolation of a broken heart, this is the song. Stunningly, achingly, beautiful, especially the way Eva understands it. One of my faves.
When I first heard her divine version of Over the Rainbow, I was sold. ❤ This wonderful voice goes directly to my heart, my soul, my all - and immediately dissolves tears, tears of joy, gratitude - and deep sorrow, for her untimely passing. Peace to her memory. She lives on. Eternal. ❤
When cockleshells turn to silvery bells Then will my love return to me When roses bloom in the wintery snow Then will my love return to me Oh waly waly love be bonnie And bright as a jewel when it's first new But love grows old and waxes cold And fades away like morning dew There is a ship it's sailing the sea It's loaded high and deep can be But not so deep as my love for you I know not if i'll sink or swim Oh waly waly love be bonnie And bright as a jewel when it's first new But love grows old and waxes cold And fades away like morning dew
The clarity and purity of her voice, her heart, the irresistible breath arcs and phrasings, this deep understanding of music... every time Eva Cassidy touches me deeply.... it's like diving into a fresh spring.... How nice that now this orchestra gives her the honor.... ! Some pieces are even more beautiful without orchestra... just pure her voice and guitar, which she plays brilliantly herself - but this piece is wonderfully arranged for the orchestra, congratulations!, and her magic is enhanced, supported by the sound of the orchestra.... Thank you!!!
I wish I could capture in words what her voice stirs within me, but I feel like any attempt is destined for disappointment. It's like the melody of her spirit resonates with a part of my soul that only wakes from its deep slumber when called by the gentle light of her singing.
We owe to her father (who taught her to play guitar) a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. "Every note, and pause, and breath was so profoundly intentional."
Only Eva. So sad, so beautiful. Only Eva. Can't really find the words. Beautiful treatment with the orchestra. I could see her standing in front of them. If only....
Hay personas que nacen para ser un regalo. Eva es una de ellas. Conmueve, emociona, corta la respiración con su gran voz. Su existencia fue corta, pero qué grandísima huella nos ha dejado. Gracias, Eva.
This song is so perfect for her. It's beautiful melody along with that voice like no other. Gives me chills moreover than any other song she covers brilliantly.
This has always been one of my favorite songs that Eva sang. The orchestral version transports me to another place and gives me goose bumps. I'm sure Eva would be pleased with this version, and perhaps is even listening from above.
The LSO has taken one of the most transcendent voices in the history of recorded music and somehow elevated it to new heights. Thank you to Christopher Willis and all of these world-class players for lending your musicianship to create an experience which was, for this lifelong Eva fan, not unlike hearing her for the very first time. Breathtaking!
The intro is just a little over the top, but beyond that hats off to this wonderful orchestration. When we listen to these arrangements we always wonder "would Eva have approved ?" At first I think it could be more delicate, but Eva's voice is so powerful in this song - and the arrangement matches her crescendo and decrescendo's perfectly.
Beautiful arrangement and as always playing from the incomparable LSO who have performed with the worlds best in many genres of music. I love Eva Cassidy’s voice which sits on top of the orchestra like she recorded it live with them. I love this.
I didn’t know about Eva Cassidy until too late. I wish I had known her and gotten to hear her perfect voice and music in person. Because of the way she sings her songs, the rich depth she produces, I think she would have liked this orchestral arrangement. It seems to suit her…from an old vet, retired in the foothills of the Smokies.
Congratulations on your new cd eva Cassidy I just brought it sounds amazing with excellent songs like song bird 🐦 🎤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎤🎼🎼just amazing cd autumn leaves 🍁🍁🍁
I cry every time I hear this, so timeless and flawless. Bless you Eva, perhaps you were too pure to learn anything here and you are expressing this magnificent music elsewhere ....
A friend sent me Over the Rainbow a few days ago, mentioned when she was terminal she kept a large pad and colored markers and would ask all who visited her to draw her a picture, I found that also amazing
I am surprised that the conductor didn't realize that you can't enbelish Eva, you can only support her. Her band knew this and supported her, which is the only thing you can do, and the only thing that works, sometimes that means doing nothing.
To me, any song performed by Eva Cassidy is beyond compare, unless it's another version recorded by Eva. In this case, there is another version of "Waly, Waly" performed by Eva on her "Eva By Heart" (HBH) album to compare her vocals to. It was the album she and Chris Biondo were trying to finish before she died, and at the time, Biondo didn't understand why she loved this song so much and made fun of it. But according to later interviews, it's now his favorite Eva Cassidy song. It's also my favorite because of what I call its unusual Irish/Celtic Folk-Opera style which highlights Eva's massive palette of vocal abilities. Of course, this orchestra version with Eva's vocals coming from the "Nightbird" album is great, but I have to say, the vocals on the (EBH) album are ever-so-slightly better probably because Eva had a cold when "Nightbird" was recorded "Live at Blues Alley." Anyway, have a listen to Eva's original "Waly Waly" on "Eva By Heart," and you can decide: th-cam.com/video/vPHpcowdvUU/w-d-xo.html Note: Lenny Williams did a magnificent job of adding the piano, and various synthesizer sounds on the original recording to give it an orchestral effect. (Ocean waves, seagulls, cymbals, obo, cello, Celtic drums, strings). He totally understood how Eva's soul ebbed and flowed with the melody and lyrics, and he captured it perfectly with each sound effect.
Gorgeous music hidden by terrible distortion. I would like to buy this album in original quality FLAC format because the TH-cam sound compression kills the ambiance completely.
Not sure who dropped the ball here, but using Eva's vocal track from Blue's Alley rather than the vastly superior studio track was a huge mistake. She had a cold at Blues Alley and didn't even attempt the high part. It's not there. And it's not on the LSO version of the song either, because they used the inferior vocal track. Unbelievable. Of course, when the "inferior" vocal track is Eva Cassidy, it's still better than anyone else. But still, Waly Waly could have been up there with Tall Trees, which gets my vote for the most moving and beautiful recording of all time.
If it's not broke don't mend it. Both the original Eva sang with a plodding piano and this version with intrusive soloists butting in diminish what would be better as an accapello or Just Eva adding minimal guitar to her free time voice.
You are so very welcome to your opinion. You should know that her producer has stated that Eva wanted very much to perform with an orchestra. With respect.
She sings herself into a dream and takes us with her.
100%🌈🪡🎶
well said James she is my favourite singer

Every note, and pause, and breath was so profoundly intentional. Every track sublime. Phew.... crying at my desk experiencing this. ::BLISS & JOY::
So grateful I'm not alone with this experience.
I Thank The Lord for my 2 wonderful mother & father this early Jan 2nd 2024 ❤❤❤ with this song.
The best voice I've ever heard, she was fantastic, thank goodness for recordings.
When I first heard her divine version of Over the Rainbow, I was sold. ❤

Peace to her memory.

Yes....and for me it was her Autumn Leaves....RIP Mama Mia...

Never heard of this song before. What a hauntingly beautiful story sung with an even more hauntingly beautiful voice
When cockleshells turn to silvery bells
Then will my love return to me
When roses bloom in the wintery snow
Then will my love return to me
Oh waly waly love be bonnie
And bright as a jewel when it's first new
But love grows old and waxes cold
And fades away like morning dew
There is a ship it's sailing the sea
It's loaded high and deep can be
But not so deep as my love for you
I know not if i'll sink or swim
Oh waly waly love be bonnie
And bright as a jewel when it's first new
But love grows old and waxes cold
And fades away like morning dew
Thank you for the lyrics 🌺
Beautifully haunting.

Tonight this sounds like the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.
We need to get this amazing voice a Grammy Award posthumously .... somehow .... Liza, Mick, Sting - you can make this happen !
Grammys are captured and therefore irrelevant nowadays. Anyone who hears Eva loves her, that has to be enough
