    --//--
⚜️If you haven’t read Elijah Shaw‘s new book, “Celebrity Protection and Touring“ and you’re in the executive protection industry, you might be falling behind.
One of the basic things he said that actually really stood out to me was this little conversation around the term Bodyguard versus Executive Protection Agent. Within my circles in the way I was raised in the industry, being a bodyguard it’s not necessarily the aim, the term BodyGuard was looked at as a slang term, one that we as executive protection agents cringe but that's the only terms for civilians to understand.
In the book, Elijah illuminates the reality and makes an argument grounded in practical common sense which is simply that: use the term that the civilians understand because that’s how you can communicate to them most effectively… this caused me to realize that many of us were running from this term because we are running from a negative stigma attached to it. As always my goal is to bring Honor back to our industry and unite us all.
Reality simply is that sometimes we have to be the bad guys but I know that as we endeavor to render a higher and higher quality of service to our principles and our clients that this term can turn from something negative into something positive and that’s what I hope to contribute to. I want to encourage professionals not to be afraid to use this term because if we can all work together to improve the identity of what the world knows as a body we can all improve the quality of the reputation we all share.
The goal then I believe should be to speak to the client in the client's language and then render a service to the client that is in keeping with the highest levels of protection and maybe in that way we can rescue this term from any negative connotations and also enjoy a better and more united future between Executive Protection Agents and BodyGuards who truly in many ways are one and the same.

But when it comes to titles an executive protection professional sound good only to us in the industry, Clients don't understand that nor care. To them we are just there SECURITY. My teammates and I discuss this regularly. I think Hollywood has a lot to do with the publics vision of what a “bodyguard” is. However, if I tell people I am in EP they have so many follow on questions, it’s easier to just say bodyguard. But every time I use that term I feel weird saying it because I know what image that creates in most peoples minds.
I’m not a big guy so if I tell someone I am a bodyguard, they don’t believe me. 100% of the time, they give me a look and say something about how I am not 300lbs. Great video, very well spoken.

Felt like if I’m not a larger person than I won’t be competitive in the industry.

A bodyguard is actually a senior protection officer in charge and he's usually close to a principal body (hence, a bodyguard). The rest of his team are not bodyguards but CPOs (close protection officers). But I can understand your point of this discussion between force demonstration (big guys are good for this per se) and more of a low profile and blending in. Both features are for there own time and circumstances.

Look into taking an actual ep course that really gets into the logistics. Doing advances is a make it or break it when out in the field. Learn proper etiquette around UHNW clients. You’ll learn this business isn’t Hollywood. It’s long hours, little sleep, traveling all over, hotels etc. but very rewarding. Good luck out there man!!

Sure the big burly dude comes to mind also but I realize that is more of an intimidation factor then being all there is to the occupation. There's a lot of brains behind the brawn.

Hello! Since you are working to make this field less of an unknown...I wanted to know what you think of politicians that had catered to a small vocal minority's demands to defund the police...which lessens the potential protection towards average citizens...these catering individuals are now being seen hiring their own private protection..
Is this being done just to get reelected? Or have these figures in politics been waiting for an excuse to hire body guards etc that serve them?
Did the police the used to fill that roll have limits on what they could do,? Red tape that kept them in check? Do the bodyguards have no such limits?
The whole defund the police seemed quite shady...The last thing that I, as a citizen, would want...is political figures having an excuse to hire thugs. While us regular citizens will have less ideal police officers, while also having increased response times.
Idk the whole defund the police movement seems shady...As someone in your line of work, have you noticed that the higher pay, happens to increase the quality of those on the job? Or is there no obvious correlation in your eyes*

Hey my friend thanks for the comment. Fitness is important and it is something you will need in order to sell yourself in this industry because you obviously need to be able to visually inspire confidence that you can protect. Your size is an advantage in doing this as well. All and all however I believe the most important thing for you to be able to do is understand how to market yourself and find opportunities for work. Once you’ve mastered this then you can look at whether you even like the work and want to change your life over these types of opportunities. I want to invite you to join me for a free webinar where I go much more deeply into some of these topics as well as how to succeed in the executive protection industry. At the end I’ll show you an opportunity where we can possibly join forces. Executiveprotectiontrainingday.com
As far as working out I think you should definitely study a martial art, lift very heavy and mix it with calisthenics and functional lifts such as kettle bells call… Fit it all into a week and rinse and repeat every Monday. God bless and Semper Fi

I understand the concept of being a grey man working EP and the hazards that may come with having a giant man/woman protector. But at the same time it can be a deterent having them around. If you were a bigger guy would you have the same views.

    • @ExecutiveProtectionLifestyle
      @ExecutiveProtectionLifestyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Absolutely, I think based on our physical attributes we organically will be more or less effective with certain client demographics because we are suited to fit different client requirements. Certain clients pallets prefer the big boys and other clients prefer mortals. To me winning of this game is understanding those clients and Amy of them so there is a natural appreciation for what We as protectors bring to the game if that makes sense. There are different accounts that I simply am not successful on but there are other ones where clients really like what I bring to the table. There are no advantages except for the ones we learn how to leverage for ourselves in my opinion and there’s no better build, just situations that dictate tactics I think.
