Great interview. I'm a 58 year old fairly new to being a musician. Our band always closes our shows with Killing in the Name. It's fun to play, apparently fun to listen to, and I think it is such an important message. I feel like it hit the scene when America thought it was dealing with the problem of racism. But now we see, in the Trump era, that nothing was dealt with, and the music from the past, turns out to be the music from the future.
I may not see the world and politics the way he does, but this doesn't change the respect I have for him as an artist. Him saying that he started playing guitar late at 17 is inspiring.
I agree. I really respect a passionate guy, that is going his own way in life, and that has stayed away from the self-destructive side of the business. He's a great, great guitar player and seems like a decent guy.

No lie. As a person of mixed race its almost relieving to hear the things he went through revolving around his race are the same as mine. Make no mistake that being someone who is mixed of race is almost worse than being someone who has one race. We have no one homeland we can go back to, no set sub culture to fall back on in the social environment when growing up. When growing up as someone whos mixed of race with one of those races being Caucasian, you come to find that the people and culture of the half that isn't white is much more inviting and accepting of your color and upbringing. I thankfully grew up being close to the black side of my family, but just knowing that Tom didn't have that some connection but was able to build that connection just based off the hate he received for being mixed is what's relieving to me. Nothing but respect and love for him.

Then to hear Public Enemy, RATM, and now RTJ, I feel even more anger and distrust. I love RATM (I had tickets to see them this month!). First time I heard their music back in '92 it immediately resonated with me - I wore out that cassette of the first record (that's right I said CASSETTE!). I'll be honest I didn't delve into subject matter of their lyrics too deeply at that time, it wasn't until later that I understood. I don't see eye to eye on everything Tom stands for politically but I do understand the reasons why we're going through what we're going though at this point and time in the country's history. But I do know this -- Tom is one of the last, great rock guitar hero's. I have an immense amount of respect for him as a musician, songwriter and performer. So grateful to have seen Rage Against The Machine during their last rare reunion tour in 2008 during the presidential republic convention in St. Paul while the show was in target center in mpls MN and there were seat guard around the venue because they thought people were going to riot after the show but Zack and Tom wisely said to not act violent toward them as it only plays into their cards and the best thing we should do is vote and speak our voices and use artistic expression and to even vote with our money and not get suckered into their system of fear.
I've met TM many times as we have a very mutual loving trusted friend we both rely on.. behind the scenes he's so down to earth and kind. He's also funny as hell and full of fun. We don't always agree on what should be done or even what the issues are but he's a person I learn from because he speaks from fact. Tom is really an educator. A teacher. This is why Rogan is a better interviewer. This guy wants Tom to say certain things. Morello is smart enough to choose his words wisely and formulate intelligent, wide reaching message. Why is this important? Because it crosses the divide and people from both sides will listen.
He's an interesting person whose limited edition book is clocking in around 385.00 U.S. Dollars. Unsigned and regular edition is priced for the working class. Hopefully he will have some signed copies available of the regular hardback for his fans.
Nico Capannelli Laid back, for me, means a non-rushed deep implied pocket preferential to 2 and 4. The metal funk component includes the guitar riffs with effects that are well balanced in the ensemble sound. Of course rap vocals feed into the sound without losing the deep pockets and create the needed anger. I’m partial to Rage Against the Machine. Does that help?

I like what you're saying but it's kind of a contradiction in terms.
Nico Capannelli Laid back, for me, means a non-rushed deep implied pocket preferential to 2 and 4. The metal funk component includes the guitar riffs with effects that are well balanced in the ensemble sound. Of course rap vocals feed into the sound without losing the deep pockets and create the needed anger. I’m partial to Rage Against the Machine. Does that help?

Rage on Behalf of the Machine
He supports Disney and has a fantasyland understanding of politics through the lens of superhero movies, so I would say that applies to Tom quite well.
He speaks sharply and has an impressive base of knowledge on points many can relate to. That doesn't mean his politics are any more sophisticated than the average resistance liberal tweeting orange-man-bad all day.

Still, the idea that Rage Against the Machine has wonderful leftist, revolutionary politics, has always amazed me that anyone could believe that after there early 20s. Nothing wrong with being a left-of-center reformist. It's even "logical" to be a Marxist and still think you can Nationalize and regulate huge corporations.
I personally think it's incompatible with the realities of the modern neoliberal world, c'est la vie, telles sont opinions.
@@hjarra1584 And my criticism isn't with liking the content. I don't think there's actually much propaganda in movies of Disney's past. That was before they teemed up with the military complex. And I know plenty of honest hard leftists who still watch Star Wars stuff. I watch movies with bad politics all the time.
I still love Never Cry Wolf and The Rockteer. Even the culturally "offensive" stuff like Peter Pan and Dumbo.
