God bless and thank you for your service, sir. My Mom is a WWII Navy vet and just turned 102 in February. To say these heroes are the Greatest Generation is an understatement!
@he4t0fthesun Like the younger generations aren't hating them? How typical of snowflakes millenials, gen z etc... You're effing up the world worse than what the boomers got handed to them. Go munch some grass or tofu pathetic vegan.
I'm 78 & wrote a comment above my great uncle who was on the USS Tennessee, on 12/07/'41! Unless you're under 60 or so, you will never see "the last WWII vet die! Somewhere, there will always be a few vets that will live to age 110 or so! Every war has seen this!
As a 23 y/o gen Z I salute you sir you saved us from great evil & helped bring us the freedom we have today that not a lot of people from my generation show gratitude & appreciation of which Is very sad... Godspeed sir.

I looked at the memorial service in December and when his nephew gave the speech, I always wanted to write and thank Lou, wish I had. But now he is at peace with his comrades. May they rest.
Thank you, “The Greatest Generation.” My dad too served in WWII and passed away in 2007, he served under Gen Patton. I pray for all their souls. God bless and…Thank You Very Much! 🙏
My high school principal, Fred Johnson, was said to be the oldest survivor of Pearl Harbor, when he died in January 2020. He was 104 years old, and still drove his little hybrid car to the mall every day, where he walked for exercise. All those guys were heroes.
He wasn't though. Ray Chavez was 106 when he died in 2018. Two years before your principal died at 104. Also, another one who died last year was 105 Although he was only 101 when your principal died.
Thank you, Lou Conter, and your entire generation which includes my father, (an army veteran who served in Europe), mother, and a bunch of uncles who were in uniform at that time. Fair winds and following seas now with your shipmates, Sir.
My then 37 yr. old, great uncle, Navy Chief Edward Gaudet, was on the USS Tennessee, moored alongside the USS Arizona on Dec. 7th,1941! He & eight Navy Chiefs from the "Arizona," were at 7:00 am. Mass on Ford Island, when the attack started at 7:55 a.m.! So, those Chief's lives may have been saved, because of this! Like Lou Conter, my great uncle was later commissioned, served during the Korean War & retired after 30 yrs.in 1953! R.I.P.! Lou & Ed!
All his buddies have been waiting now they can all truly rest . 🙏

That 102-year-old veteran knew second interwar period began on September 3, 1945 and ended on September 10, 2001.
Very eerie that was his last day of his duty before tragic happened.
How did the "second interwar" period end after the wars in Korea and Vietnam? Weird comment.

You missed the part where he served in Korea (1950-1953).
