  • The Assynt deer argument is about deer and native woodland regeneration. It has been rumbling on for almost 10 years and has cost the taxpayer and local community nearly £1 million.
Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) say that the woods have no new natural regneration, but there is in fact regneration throughout much of the woodland area. SNH have been reluctant to admit this.
SNH have now threatened local owners with a Section 8 agreement, which effectively allows them to send people in to cull all the deer, and send the owners the bill for doing this. The owners include a local crofting organisation called the Assynt Crofters Trust (ACT).
ACT have decided they are not putting up with this, and have challenged the SNH position on the grounds that the situation in Assynt has been grossly misrepresented. Watch the film and see what you think.

Disgraceful, John Muir Trust should hang their heads in shame. Affordable housing in Assynt will never happen, a tourism hub... what next...Alan Mccombes needs to go and spend a full 12 months living and working in Assynt these bold statements and promises will never see daylight. Still waiting for the outcome of who was responsible for the badly shot deer on the estate who suffered for days with a jaw injury until a local stalker put him out of his misery? Shocking behaviour and no long term vision for this area!
