Kawhi wanted Los Angeles and Los Angeles only so his FAMILY did everything to get him out of there because they didn't want to be there as well. For the longest time my favorite draft moment has been watching the 2001 draft knowing how much the Spurs wanted Tony Parker but fearing the Celtics would take him with one of their three first rounders since they were rumored to be high on Tony too. So I cheered when the Celtics took Joe Johnson. Then got excited when the Celtics took Kedrick Brown next instead of Tony. Then I was getting down that the Spurs hadn't been able to trade up to the middle of the first round and probably wouldn't get him. But then jumped up and cheered when the Celtics spent their last pick on Joseph Forte and after that, pick by pick just hoping teams would stupidly think the French kid was too soft or too small or not ready. And then couldn't believe my luck as a Spurs fan when he was still there at 28 knowing exactly who the Spurs were taking. And it was such a great moment seeing Tony come out from the stands at the draft to get his Spurs hat from David Stern. Two weeks later he was tearing up the summer league so hard the Sonics offered Hall of Famer Gary Payton to the Spurs to try to pry Parker from them but of course the Spurs told them no way. Anyways, that was an incredible draft to be a Spurs fan. But Wemby so excited to be coming to San Antonio, crying tears of joy and telling Monica McNutt "I'm a damn Spur!" in the interview just after the selection may be an even more exciting a moment for us Spurs fans. So much credit to Tony for laying the foundation for the Spurs to become big in France. I expected big things from Tony when the Spurs drafted him but never expected that he'd not only become a Hall of Famer, but also make the Spurs the team great French players want to come to.
With a little luck, Spurs will have Risacher or Sarr in the next draft :-) Sarr would be a good "Twin Tower" to pair with Wemby, as Risacher is a very good outside shooter and a Ginobili kind of swiss army knife : with a good PG, he would be the third part of a new "Big Three" built around Victor.
i will come back on this video every year to remind myself how lucky the spurs are, and me as a fan. Witnessing the start of the career of arguably one who has the potential to be the GOAT of his generation and the greatest spur ever.

Scoot will be a very good player : no doubt about it. Wemby, if he is not injured too much, will be far above that. Maybe it will take more time for him to reach his top because Scoot is more physically achieved, but he will do the job to gain muscles and become an absolute monster.
