I lived most of my life in England. When you earn in sterling, you don't convert it to rupees. Weather didn't bother us. We had good neighbours, colleagues and friends. We had very good life in London. We decided to retire in India but unfortunately I lost my husband in 2021 after coming back. We never compared our life in England with India. I think as India was a colony, britishers are more familiar with our culture and you have more freedom to maintain your own culture than you will have in USA or Australia. Those days we didn't have anything like blog to reveal our life style. We came to India every year.London became our second home. We were never depressed and were very happy. When you move to a new country you have to accept it as it is. Now a days you get indian food everywhere but those days there were hardly any Indian shop but we got used to English food. We loved fish and chips. You get so many ready to cook meals that make your life easy. I had a full time job, did all the housework on Saturday, my husband looked after the garden, entertained friends for dinner, went out on Sundays. You just have to plan everything for the whole week. As I always lived in Assam, the rain didn't bother me. Best wishes for your future.
Hi.. Mam. Just read your post It was really wonderful. So..are you staying in Assam now..after your husband passed away? Sorry to be asking this...what had happened to your husband. Me and my husband...who is a very good journalist from Wall Street Journal... Live in Delhi. AND I JUST LOVE ASSAM. Best Regards from Delhi. Chitra
I have roots from Assam but I was born in England. Since my father passed away in the care home here in London last year, I have really wanted to visit Assam and Shillong. Very few relatives of ours are in Assam now. It is lovely meeting you both, here!
@@monicanath4859 sorry to hear about your father. I am in kolkata now. It will be very painful to visit London without my husband but I may go in future when ready. I have all my friends over there but most of them are living alone. I would love to meet you sometime in future. Take care.
Huge respect for mentioning mental health struggles, very important but not often talked about. Loved the video, some very useful tips. I also love hearing about what you guys are up to in the UK, you’re really making the most of your time here and it’s great fun watching you both in your vlogs. Looking forward to seeing what you post next!
Thanks a lot 🤗 Absolutely Mental Health and stress is the biggest challenge these days specially when you are moving abroad. We have to accept that and find ways to overcome these challenges 👍🏻 Next video is going to be a really nice daily vlog and we will give some of our self care tips while living abroad
@@HumTumInEngland but many of us British Asians suffer from mental health issues. The challenges in psychiatric hospitals in regard to our community is very great, but being hospitalised a few times has been the best for me personally. There is a lot of abuse in hospital but you get over it.
In India, we stayed in Bombay for 28 years. We never ever had a servant. We are settled in Hyderabad. For about 6 months, we had a servant only to wash vessels , sweep and mop the floor. For 3 works, we used to pay Rs. 1500. We realised that the servant doesn't come for a few days and we have become totally dependent. We decided that we employ no servant and get back to our earlier days of doing all the work. My wife, daughter and me do all the work without a servant. No more servants. Lesson learnt - Be self reliant.
You are right. Most people live in appt in Mumbai and cannot even clean a 3 or 4 rooms or cook for a family of 4. Believe its a kind of mentality issue. If you have a servant your status is higher than a family without one. People should stop this mentality. Obviously it will become a struggle when you move outside India.

This is my 3rd month here as a student and I can relate to all the facts such as missing family and friends, festivals, etc. But yes, it's all about staying motivated all the time because positive attitude is the only way to move forward. Thank you so much for making this video!! Much love :)

We Indians have a very bad habit of breaking rules in every walk of life. For people who have the Chalta Hai attitude, it is a big lesson. For people who always follow rules, people who are self reliant, do not depend upon others for anything, such people can survive any where in the world. People with Self discipline, down to earth, modest, no ego and pride can manage anywhere.
Its amazing video and very well covered the content! Also the struggle in taking up the public transport when you don't have the car in the initial phase!! Superb guys! Keep on preparing such informative video's!
