Both of my parents are still alive but they don't care about anyone but themselves. It's really sad. I do envy those who have wonderful loving parents but sometimes their kids treat them disrespectfully. That's also sad too. 😒

There was 10 of us siblings. Wasn't enough love to go around either. Only one was the golden child in my family.

Sister, it is not your fault your mother died. Your mom had a heart problem. You were the youngest and she loved you so much. Move on with your life. Sometimes it take a tragic to change someone or a situation. Your mother is your strength and your rock. A mother's love is greater than anything.

I agree with you. Some people (not all) in here act like they were innocent (like angels) when they were teenagers. Like you said, I'm sure a lot of us did more or less the same like the daughter in this story. People make good and bad choices in their life as teenagers. -- I'm sure if she knew that her mom was going to leave like that then she would've spent more time with her mom. All of us would have done the same.

It's so sad that we take things for granted and don't appreciate those who loves us while they are still here. Life is indeed so short and time doesn't stop for anyone. I've also lost my beloved in-laws to a tragic fire and when my graduation day, it was so difficult. It was suppose to be a happy and celebratory day but I constantly search for them in the crowd especially looking for my father-in-law. He was my #1 cheerleader, my rock, and my inspiration to continue my college education. Many times I wanted to give up but when I think about him, he kept me going. One more semester left in my degree when I lost them both. I had so many plans of what I want to do with them and many places I want to take them too, now it's too late. Thanks for sharing this heart warming story as so many of us can relates.

Don't blame yourself for the death of your mom completely, because maybe it was time to go. However, I don't have much sympathy for bad kids but I'm glad you found your strength though it all. Consider yourself blessed.

Be proud. I don’t know you, but I’m proud of you my hmong sister!!
Tsis txob tu siab, there’s a saying that your parents kav yus loj xwb tsis kav yus laus. This is the cycle of life. But I understand and completely know your pain. Losing parents hurts everyone differently, but as the baby of the family, it hurts us a lot more than most. I lost my father 10 years ago, and as the baby, I was very lost and hurt for a long time, in fact, I still hurt today, and I don’t think it will ever get any better. This is what I say to people:
The pain doesn’t go away, the hurt doesn’t get better, we don’t get over it, this kind of pain, Time doesn’t mend it....... we just eventually learn to live with the pain.
You should just be thankful that your mother and father are the inspiration and the driving force that got you to where you are today. Just be happy that your mothers love is what got you your doctorate. Maybe if she was around for another 10+ years, you might have never gotten that far in education. So be happy for what you have, hurt for what you’ve lost, but most importantly, love the ones you can still love.

A great lesson to love our parents no matter what. You won’t regret when you give love while they are alive. Both my parents and in-laws have died and when my children receive their college degrees or gets a celebratory job promotion, I search for my parents’ faces to ask if they see - how proud they would be of their grand children - that their difficult life in Laos, journey bringing me, and the life I live - is to honor them and it was all worth it.

Ohhh, sister :( Please do not blame yourself for your mom's death. We are all teenagers & some of us made made choices we are not happy with. Some of us are more stubborn than others. Some of us do ridiculous, regrettable things. ETC. Everyone's life, especially teenage years are different. But maybe professional therapy will help you with some unresolved issues prior to your mom's passing & how it has affected you to this day. I hope the burden will be lifted off you by the help of a professional because it's from an unbiased perspective. Allowing ourselves to heal will take time, but I believe will make us better parents along with a better understand of ourselves. Congrats on all your accomplishments, school, career, personal life, and your beautiful children. May you stay blessed.

Unfortunately, we can’t change the pass. That’s the way of life. Life is too short, love your husband, your in laws, your kids and your family. Life is about constantly learning from our mistakes. Just look at it from another view, if your mother didn’t die, you probably would of got married young and your life would be a lot different.

As teenagers we are young and dumb and just tend to disobey our parents but it doesn't mean we don't love them. I feel sorry for your father but at least he knew your stepmother didn't love him and was only in for the money. God bless you.

Omg, get over it. It's what makes your dad happy. You have your own life to live. Why are you complaining so much. At least your step mother doesn't treat you like crap, so be glad.

Don't want to sound like I am attacking this lady, but after listening to it twice, I cannot understand why a doctor degree person would tell self serving story like this. First, she was the most disobedient and disrespectful person, which broke her mother's heart and killed her (this is what this lady said). Tsis paub tias leej niam tu siab li. Then after mother died and had a step mother, this doctor trashed her stepfather, now nws paub tu siab heev. A doctor degree would know how to focus a paper or story just about her, instead she used this story to attack her step mother again and again. Well, at the end this doctor painted a very rosy picture for herself. At the end, she is the most adorable, likeable, sympathetic, caring, considerate, understanding, kind, successful, educated person, etc, as she ended up to be the heroin of the whole world, not just her family. She was disobedient to her own mother and broke her heart, she hated her step mother, and at the end she became the most caring mother of the whole world. What a story for a doctor. This kind of person has not finished the story yet, some day someone else may tell a story that this lady became the worst person ever, who knows?
I do believe that a person can change for the better. But this lady has not. She changed from a bad daughter into a step mother hater. If she is really a doctor, she would have at least study some sociology, psychology, humanity, or other social and natural science classes to understand that perhaps 99% of step mothers would do anything to make sure her own biological children survive, would tend to protect her own children by marrying an older man with some surety of wealth, and would disfavor her stepchildren at all costs. It is not just this stepmother is bad, almost all of May Vang's stories about step mother and step father are bad. A doctor would surely understand this animal instinct behavior for human also.

I don't like this kind of story here. You did what you want so stop regret that your mom die cause of you did to hurt your mom.
