    Another great review, thank you. Can't go wrong with the Lamy Safari-style pens. These seem to be the best looking ones yet. On a personal note I like the grip design on these. I don't mind the "trapezoidal" shape of the grip section.

    Very good review however i doubt whether a person (unless he/she is a die hard fan of Safaris/Al-Stars) would justify the cost of the LX, whereas it is in fact very much the same as the ordinary models.

    I think it would be great with a gold Lamy nib and the cost still wouldn't be excessive given the pricing of the competition. love it or hate it, these are very reliable pens, I've never had any kind of problems like skipping, hard starts etc.
    very cool video as always, thanks for posting :)
    and of course, happy new year!

    love your videos. I like Lamy pens in general. I'm in a doctoral program and find them very comfortable to write with (and I do a lot of note taking) Also discovered a new color as well. Keep up the great videos

    Recently purchased a Lamy LX Marron M nib to compliment my Sheaffer300 (46g) M. Being a left hand over line writer I have issues with scratching as I push the pen as I tried various pens owned by my wife. I filled the pen with J. Herbin Lie de The’ brown that I really like. I found writing on 24lb copy paper that I practice on the ink feathered more so than my Sheaffer with Waterman. It was fine on Rhodia paper. Switched out the LX M nib for a Lamy 14k gold F nib. This is working well for me but there is very little difference between the two pens as far as line size. Because my Sheaffer is a large pen I really like the LX larger size compared to a Safari. So very pleased with the purchase my Lamy LX.

    Excellent video as always. I find it interesting that this model's reverse writing is so different from my own Lamy mediums but I suppose that may be a property of the coating or ink (or both)

    Please correct me if I am wrong, but is this not just a Lamy Al-Star with a shinny finial? Does that really justify the higher price?

    • @opulan
      @opulan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      R Melo if you were to buy a pen case of that caliber I suppose you'd end up paying around 10-20$, factor that in with the pvd coated nib and transparent section it might be worth it to some

      @rmelo5932 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Alex G, I get why some people would pay the extra money. I once told someone who asked how much a particular pen was worth that it was worth as much as someone is willing to pay. But my all black AL-Star has a dark transparent section and a PVD coated nib and it was priced like all the other AL-Star's. I think this may be a case of a company calling something Lux (LX) and slapping a luxury tax/price sticker on a pretty common, but decent pen.

    Stephen, did you buy the converter or did you get it preinstalled, because I had bought a Vista and I had to buy the converter separately and the converter itself was one third the price of the pen!

    Hey Stephen, thanks for this review. If I may issue a slight correction - I believe LAMY refers to this pen as the "LAMY Lux" (not Lx), at least that's what my web research returned a few months back when I was looking to purchase one. I would describe the nib detail as 'art deco'. I have two of these pens (a fine and a medium nib) and like them very much. Rose Gold and Ruthenium as I wasn't a big fan of the Gold or Paladium versions. Cheers, and thanks so much for these reviews. I very much look forward to them.
    All the best to you and yours this year!

    They mention "precious metals" in the pamphlet- is that accurate? or is it just an AL Star anodized gold? Is there actually any gold plating on it?

    Great review. Thanks.
    Have you experienced or developed an opinion of the Lamy (Safari /Al Star / LX / et.al.) 14k GOLD nibs? I bought two from La Couronne du Comte and was exceptionally pleased with them (both of the nibs and also LCdC!). If so, what do you think of them (the gold nibs)?
    I must add that I am perpetually amazed at your talents and skills. Specifically, in this case, to write and speak simultaneously -- and even to catch and comment on a mistake (quick brown Box) without skipping more than half a beat. Bravo! That, and your deliberate choice of words and pronunciation really add to your reviews. Aluminum vs Aluminium = tomato vs tomahto; I won't correct it either way. Now, if you say Pee-kan with a long "e" instead of Pi-kahn with a short "i" (as in the delicious Pecan Pie), I might enter into the fray. ;-p
    Cheers and Happy New Year to you and Azizah!

    What do you recommend for writing at school? Lamy Safari or Parker Vector standard plastic? Which of them is most durable?

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stefan Dicu I'd recommend the Lamy Safari both for durability and writing quality

    Would it be wise or safe to carry any fountain pen in the breast pocket of any men's suit? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

      Dog Food I don't think there's any reason not to. There may be the occasional leakage, but that should really be exceptional and possibly related to either breakage or human error.

      If you do, make sure to clip it at the pocket, so the ink does not flow to the nib.

    Great review, but hugely disappointed with the pen. I was hoping the section would be metal to match the barrel. This just an AL-Star with a case. A missed opportunity. Shame.

  • @Kurazaybo

    I am surprised by the "feminine" thing. I kinda can see it with rose gold being pink -ish but how in the world is yellow world feminine? Fun fact: gold doesnt't actually have a yellow "color", it is sort of a quantum effect of what the gold atoms do to light and therefore hard to mimic.
    Also, that most be the most sexist observation you have ever made about a pen.
    That said, about the yellow gold finish I would like to see how true to gold (and consistent from pen container to clip to cap and barrel) it really is, compared to solid 24k, 18k or at least 14k gold. This may sound nerdy or demanding but I think it is the simplest thing because I know for sure that you have some gold nibs in your collection.
    I am sure going to be getting the Lamy LX even thoug I am not a big fan of their design. They are reliable, consistent pens valued all around the world. As a side note, I think Inoxcrom introduced the idea of cylindrical (shall I say pen-like?) pen containers with the Inoxcrom ID twety ish like years ago. It was made of cardboard but was the exact same idea.

    the LX is basically an Al-Star.

    • @gertahnstrom784
      @gertahnstrom784 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      But with different finishes, metal finials/endcaps and clips in another material. Along with the case that makes for a smaller production with more fussing about with machinery and development of production of said extra metal parts, that on the Safari and AL-Star are injection molded and easier to produce in larger quantities. So sure, it's base construction is an AL-Star, but the changes makes for a different process, I guess. Hence a different price point.
