I drive my bug daily because it’s the only car I own! Bought it when I was 19ish, and blew up and replaced the engine at 22 ish. It takes work to drive a classic car daily. But life is short and the feeling and experience is 100% worth it if you aren’t a sissy! I’m a firm believer in the idea that the required maintenance on old cars is actually what triggered so many people to be car nuts. In My generation (younger generation) you don’t see as many grease monkeys. I believe it’s because new cars require less maintenance, and people have been conditioned to view their cars more as replaceable appliances, and maintenance has become more of an annoying after thought. Destroying my original bug engine may have been the most important learning experience of my life… I am now 27 and still driving my yellow 75 type 1 baby!!!! (Not super) I like to camp/ hot spring, and my beetle has been to places in Nevada/California that people would just never believe a car of its size could go.
Any excuse to drive the bug makes me happy. It makes a great daily, especially around town. Looking forward to catching up with you guys in the field this summer. Anthony
I noticed that the dual Webers in Herbie, have a cable linkage system. I've been looking for this for my car but I have not yet found it. Where did this linkage come from?
My '64 sunroof is a daily. In '75, my first car was also a '64. My Dad got me the Idiot Book. Used, at the swap meet. I read it cover to cover. Learned to do valves, points, timing ect. My tip is to stay with points, orig. bosch dist, Solex carb. and pierburg pump. Don't put China on your bug. Yes, make sure all tins and seals are in place. They never ran hot when new. Stock is rock.
@@AirkooledKustoms Good morning! Might have been a time I'd say yes! I have the only running bug in my little town and it gets attention. Gas stations ect. Kids can't believe I have to open the hood to filler up! Haha. You have a great shop!! Cheers!
I agree about the bug as a good daily driver. I sadly only daily during good weather too much cleaning in the winters salty wet weather. General maintenance is a pain but worth it in the long run My issue with Daily driving is the quality of replacement parts available through the big parts houses. Even after a full restoration I have found Brake parts electrical parts and rubber are terrible in my experience. I try to get the best possible parts available, so do your homework and just suck up the price. Love the looks of the Tig welding Josh looks so smooth you must save hours and hours of grinding. Spooks must be down to only buying filler by the quart Darin I like how meticulous you are about the headliner the mark of a good interior in my opinion is the headliner install. Love how you all work together to make it right. Thanks for these cool videos sure puts the whole process in to perspective.

yes , just get the deferred maintenance caught up and stay on it
Anything more than a few miles, then NO. Otherwise, yes.
My commute is 120 RT. and 80mph in the slow lane is not uncommon on my stretch of I-5.
PHEW yeah, that would be tough to keep up and be safe.
Iam buying it for $3.000
Awesome - keep us posted!
