I didn't get to the end of the book, but John Steinbeck's books are usually sad. Look at The Grapes of Wrapes or Of Mice and Men. Need I say more? lol Or East of Eden although that was a fantastic movie with James Dean! He was an amazing actor. Too bad his life got cut short.
