@@ferretwithagun9886 hey ! Yes there is definitely a lot of influences but also a deeper lore behind all this :) If you want to check out TH DREAM EATER, my last short, it will bring you some more informations about it all
The whimper from the mom at the end after feeling her son’s hand disturbed me the most. If you’ve ever felt the corpse of a loved one, you know how cold and stiff they are.
Yes I meant to mention this...but I got caught up talking about other things. How I felt for her as a mom who luckily has never lost a child but been to a baby's funeral and felt a cold corpse.
My sister sadly.drowned three years ago and at the morgue I hugged cuddles and kisses her body. I felt the woman's pain. Excellent acting. Breath taking story of a morbid topic. The I actually understand when people don't report a loved one's death and keep the corpse in the house. About a year ago I read a story.About a woman sleeping next to her decomposing husband for years. I would have some the same. I would have kept my sister's corpse of I didnt know others would stop me and report
Ohh, Nicolas, if you see the other person is pretty clearly going crazy, do NOT escalate the situation or try to reason with them. Barricade yourself in the room with Anna (if you can't get her out of the house) and call the cops.
The father didn't bring his son back to life. He only dug up his dead son and brought him home. I guess the father was as crazy as his own father, who murdered his mother.
Love it. Super similar vibes to "Pet Sematary" (which I absolutely love). The whole not knowing if he is crazy or if there is paranormal stuff going down was really well done!!
As it was written by the great Stephen King: "Sometimes dead is bettah" Quoted by the amazing Fred Gwynn. I really loved this take on a classic! Nice job!
This is a very well-made short film. The film combines the themes of grief, childhood trauma and mental illness very well. Even though the film is only 23 minutes it never feels 'rushed', which is down to good pacing of the story. I really like the Supernatural aspect with the unknown creature. I especially liked the part where Louis could hear his son's cries through the creature's hand against his ear - very creative. Very good acting from the cast too, especially when the dead son was a corpse at the breakfast table being fed the oatmeal. The story was very engaging and held my attention throughout 👍🏾
Looks like it was inspired on many points by Stephen King's Pet Sematary. But with the Leschen, a form of the Leshy, an East European "counterpart" of the Native American legend of the Wendigo that is involved in the same kind of ritual in Pet Sematary. The main character's name is Louis, like in the S. King story ;) Great short film :D
Yeah, I was thinking of Pet Sematary the whole time I was watching this... Not to discredit or offend the writer of course. I love Horror, it's one of my fav genres, so to see an inspiration is remarkable
He didn't bring his son back to life... He reunited his wife with his dead son but he couldn't join them... He's stuck in another side... They of madness.... What a twist..
All I could think was, "Don't eat that bird... WHY WOULD YOU EAT THE BIRD?!" And then later, "Please don't tell me he threw up the bird... DON'T PUT THE THROW UP BIRD IN YOUR DEAD SON'S MOUTH!!" *gag* I felt like I was scolding a toddler or a puppy.
One of the best short horrors I’ve seen so far! Incredible. Very eerie and creepy. Makes you think how quickly someone can lose their mind in a sense, (or have a demon attached to you, depending on how you view the voice)

This was awesome. Tragic and drammatic. Not just some corpses and rituals for the screen. The actor that did the father was very good, he gave me a sense of true desperation, both for the loss of his loved ones and both for the madness. Good job

I have others that will tell you this about me....I don't go for people based on their looks. Their personality makes view them as ugly, cute, sweet (I know this is a crossover from looks and personality). The thing is I have had people say "but he's so hot" and I am like "he's ugly" cuz there is something about their personality but sometimes if time goes on I can see a picture and see what appealed to everyone. This guy did his part so well his many moods/personalities made me view him in an altering way through the whole 23 minutes. First shot I was like "who is this creep? Second shot/scene I was like "look at this poor vulnerable man" Then I was like "look at this scared smart man who's skeptical..he looks so wise and kind and cute. Then I was like "okay I get his anger but he looks a bit like a douche but maybe it's justified?" when he got mad at his wife. Then I thought "kay, seems like an average looking joe" when he said "what am I doing" Then I saw this handsome loving father when he was convinced by Leschon to do the thing. My biggest chill factors though were the bird being presented to him. I'm like "no, don't. It wants you to chain your Holy Spirit and your son's and who knows who else's" and the door being there in the mud room...because I had the strangest thing happen with a door appearing years ago. More maybe later. For now, I felt this was an excellent representation of spiritual warfare and chills! So many chills! Mood set off the bat with tone and just gripped me right through. Fantastically done. Thank you for this.
Thank you Monique. It touches me that you felt exactly the mood and the different phases Louis is going through. Christopher Frka, the actor, definitely got in the character even at the first audition. I couldn't be more thankful to him for helping to create this movie. Thank you again Monique !
@@simondoutreleau6431 Thank you again for this movie and it's crazy how I reacted. Like as if I was there in person and wanted to run away from him....danger alert to being there in person and wanting to hug him and say I care. But the bigger thing that got me is how it confirmed to me how I am attracted or unattracted (turned towards/find a person appealing or turned away/find a person repulsive) by their personality/traits and not their looks. I really feel you were blessed to have this guy play this part. Christopher Frka being this guy. He was blessed too though for you creating this script for him to star in.
Monique thank you for such an insightful and thoughtful compliment. This was one of my first leading roles and I really gave it 100% of what I had at the time. You have made my day, thank you ❤️
@@cfrka114 Oh I am so happy! I felt so weird saying it because I am like 44 now and I feel like everyone is younger than me. I sorta hate actually cuz I love acting and dancing and being a woman odds go down for me..but that's aside from the point. The point is I felt strange because I am thinking of how I would relate dating wise to people in my life previously and was thinking from that paradigm and then got worried that I was going to make you think I was hitting on you??? I don't know. It's hard to explain in writing. Just know that I was placing myself inside the suspension of disbelief of the movie and putting us on the same playing level but then jumped outside that box and realized OMG! He's going to get creeped out. Whatever, you did an amazing performance and I know now that personality seriously emits how a person looks to me. This was the perfect leading role for you and I hope from here on it you get tons more stuff that show off your talent. It can be hard though cuz my favourite character I played was a tiny part as a chief in a pantomime and I know I won't ever find that role again but that chief will always surface somewhere so going into a whole new character...mmmmhhhhmmm...okay enough of this! Thank you for letting me know this and Merry Christmas!
There was a good polish and a nice consistent plot to this film that gave it a high-value professional feel, and some compelling touches. At the same time, there seemed to be a curious dynamic going on within the production team that made me think that too many cooks were apt to spoil the broth, or perhaps there was too much micro-management from on high? For instance, the makeup and costumes were actually great, but some of the lighting and camera angles helped make the actors look pretty out of place and even wooden at times. Who ok'd that? As well, the script needed more oversight because it seemed overly-long - which that had the knock on effect of making some of the scenes drawn out and repetitive. The cart trying to pull the horse? I wonder what kind of mountain of footage and instruction (demands) were handed to the editor? Whatever, the result was often given to reducing the pace of this short to a crawl and even an occasional stutter. This film was easily 10 mins too long. I have to say though, at times it all came together brilliantly, like the grave-coffin-open reveal. Pure class...classic. All in all, a good watch, and it showed a *lot* of promise - and it was by miles better than a lot of the guff out there. At the end of the day though, even though a lot of talent and time went into this film, the direction seemed to compromise the end result.
Hello, You’re right about the length, it is a bit long. The thing is some people choose to prefer dynamic videos and films because our era thought us that way. I actually like long and contemplative frescoes (but this is my point of view). Now I do realize I tried to involve a bit much a back story and that sometimes you could feel it in the film in terms of narrative. I appreciate you noticed it and actually wrote a comment about it. It’s will be now 5 years I wrote this film and I think I learned a lot since then thanks to it but also because I experienced cinema and life in general a bit deeper. I recommend you to watch my last short so you could tell me if, from your point of view, you saw some improvement.
Also if I can add some anecdote we shot a 25 min film within four days of shoot. For those who knows how the industry works, there is never enough nor money and that’s normal for an indie film. But when you shoot a scene, sometimes you have to make choices, that will impact the entire movie. I was also a bit closed minded about my vision of this film and as we had a tremendous amount of work with my editor, Yann Brogard, I think he managed to do a amazing work out of what we shot and the vision I had of my script.
@@simondoutreleau6431 thank you for responding in such terms :-) Also, thank you for the invite. I had a good mooch and watched *The Dream Eater* first. It was highly original and the elements really came together nicely - and it certainly reflects a good team with good direction. Very very professional looking, and without a hint of industrial production values. I had a proper blast watching it. I especially loved the sumptuous lighting and the practical effects and makeup. Lovely stuff. Assistant directors make a lot of difference, eh? If you're going to turn a vision into a film, it sure pays to have real-time criticism and advice, I bet. The casting though was spotty, I have to say man...and it seemed a bit dislocated from the rest of the high production values of this project. If you're going to pull in a talented young lady to carry such a demanding lead, it can go two ways I guess; they can be intimidated by the production and will need a bit of encouragement, or they can be over-confident. The former needs a kind word, but the latter needs a firm hand. She put on a great performance, but she was allowed to express too many projection traits from what I would guess is a strong stage background. The script gave her too much to play with, I think - and she was allowed too much leeway for such a pivotal and involved role, especially when she was playing off the other actors. It seemed to make the job of the actor playing the grandpa's character pretty tough when he was playing to her - otherwise, he's actually very strong as a soliloquist and was thoroughly fixating, and hugely entertaining to watch. The editing was unusual. I can see your undoubted talent for character development throughout this film, but I'm sure you realise it necessitated the film to be at least 20 mins longer. That's a problem, when the transitional elements are sacrificed - and they certainly were in this short. Bobbing in and out of his (dreaming) mind was an excellent idea, but by using it as part of the final reveal...? It veritably forced the editor to transition sharply between scenes - and there didn't seem to be any of the normal cues - different lighting..spooky music..etc, to show the change in environment. But there couldn't be such cues, because the fact the grandpa was dreaming all along, was kept 'secret' from the audience. It seemed to tie the editor's hands, and force a lot of the direction and underlying dissonance...but it also made for a film that came across too often as an extended trailer. I really liked this short a lot, and it certainly shows some pretty admirable progression from Out In The Woods. What do you recommend I watch next?
@@simondoutreleau6431 So cool! It's always great to hear some snippets about production from the writer/director! Nice one. Honestly..looking at the film, the production values alone carry it perfectly well. It has great balance, and has a good solid story and plot. As for being 'close minded'? Hell..it's always hard to trust others with your baby. It's rarely an innate thing for a person to feel able to do that freely. I just saw The Dream Eater, and can see straight away that you pulled in a couple of assistant directors to keep you in line ;-) Nice work. As for Yann...I have a feeling that perhaps you've still been a bit of a back-seat driver to him, even with The Dream Eater. Editors tend to be geniuses who work better when left alone to do their thang, man. You know it. Tbh, I'd love to see re-edits of your films where Yann is given free-rein with minimal interference.

Kind of reminds me of a demented pet cemetery with a twist; well done though.
Ooooh punaise très effrayant 😱cool ce film merci 👍👍😮
Merci beaucoup !
Certified Gold!!!!!😎
These are the best right before bed!

Hi army
BTS
This was brilliant 🙌🏽
great film!
So glad I found this channel ❤
Super cool ! GOOOD LUCCK !!
Hello,
You’re right about the length, it is a bit long.
@@TheAdeybob maybe it’ll happen one day ! I’m glad you liked The Dream Eater :) and Yes life is a never ending lesson and experience, I hope every movie will be better one after the other. Thank you for your interest in my work !

Can you imagine how much more impactful and less trite the messages from beyond would be as whispers rather than growling forceful demands? Also, just a gentle reminder that if you have any inkling that your dearly departed loved one might come back to life, don't have them embalmed. Pumping them with chemicals kinda messes up the whole lore about rising from the dead, imho.
I love this short film it looks like "Pet Sematary" film but more creepy (at least for me). Good job ❤
This gives me the creeps. Pet Sematary vibe.. so scary.. brilliant!!!
That voice scared the shit out of me😱
