    So very true, budgies differ in personality just like humans do. They are unique and wonderful little birds. My little female tamed in 2 weeks and is now talking at just under 4 months. She was the one I spotted at the breeders that was hanging upside down from the ceiling of the aviary. She is feisty and daring, just as I suspected she would be.

    When doing research before getting my budgies everything said males were better pets, but honestly I like the females way better! I have 3 females, and they all have totally different personalities, and flock really well together. My male is the noisiest and screeches the most. He is mostly interested in flirting and having everyone pay attention to him, while the females seem interested in what i'm up to, and quickly figure out new toys or enrichment. The main advice I can give to people thinking about multiple budgies is get the biggest cage possible with proper bar spacing. The bigger the cage the better they all get along. I upgraded to a 40'' flight cage a few months ago, best thing I ever did for them.

      Lol my sweetest ever budgie was female but I thought she was male. I have 2 boys 1 girl now, Meep is the girl...she's a funny little bitch. Very self-satisfied, very entitled, but also very curious and loves to play with toys. The boys are more fun overall but they are all different

      My first female budgie did the same! It was always so funny coming home and seeing her sit on top of the cage being all perky and naughty. She was such a character! We had our neighbor's cockatiel staying over for a few weeks during their vacation and she'd always chase the cockatiel, biting his tail. The cockatiel was five times her size but she wasn't afraid of anything or anyone.

    I bought my budgies when they were very young and I couldn't tell their sex. I ended up with 2 females. I think they get along great. One of them is more dominant but they get along fine. They love to chirp, squawk and chew everything.

    From personal experience, doesn't matter the gender. I had a male and he was chatty but shy, while the female was more social and interacted with people. Another female I had was shy and affectionate, loved getting head scratches. My 2 current female budgies are very playful, social and energetic. They are feisty with each other because they are sisters, however they don't bite people and are friendly. I'd say the only difference is the talking and dancing. Female budgies don't have a need to dance because males do it to attract and get attention, so they typically don't. The mimicking speech part is different, females have clearer speech than males but again they have no need naturally to mimic sounds for attention. Most of the time they can speak (if taught young) but can go months later with knowing the words yet not speaking them. Females don't want to attract predators, but if yours feels safe then it definitely will talk. It all depends on personality and how they are raised.

    I’m actually in the process of teaching my female budgie how to talk!
    But she is pretty smart.
    She will also kill you
    And bite your eyes so you can’t see for a week
    And fly towards you when you call her
    And eat all your food
    And make you bleed if you try to pick her up (jk)
    And fly away from our boy budgies like a normal human (even tho she’s a bird)
    And flick all my coins out of the jar
    And chew wood
    And get mad
    And thinks she is in charge
    And doesn’t fly into windows
    And flicks all her food out of the bowl
    And used to like pats
    And doesn’t like pats anymore
    And likes to eat strawberries
    And eats
    And poops

    They both have their qualities. Males tend to be more social, can learn an impressive amount of words and usually bond quicker with their owner and other birds/animals. Females are generally more playful (make sure you get toys!), very naughty (also: moody!) and love to climb in and on stuff. I just love all budgies! They have big personalities. Unique personalities, so everything I just said can differ from bird to bird. My current female loooooves to gnaw on stuff but she can give my male a run for his money when it comes to singing and head bobbing.

    Health Problem Considerations:
    I have owned 4 female budgies. Remember, even if there are no males around, female budgies will still lay eggs if the conditions are right: warm, safe, lots of food and water. I had problems with budgies laying eggs and I couldn't get them to stop.
    I have lost two birds due to female problems and a third had lost a leg due to female problems. One died from cancer of the ovary, and the 7-1/2 year old otherwise healthy bird got her hormones up and tried to lay and egg, but became egg-bound (the egg was partially laid and would not release). Even though I got her to the vet the following morning, she died. The last bird had laid over 30 eggs, despite our best efforts to get her to stop. She developed calcification in her kidney, which put pressure on the nerve going to her leg, resulting in a paralyzed foot. After lots of expensive vet bills, it looks like she will recover (she is no longer trying to chew off her foot), and she may have a reasonably normal life.
    Female budgies can have female health problems - it's a roll of the dice, according to my vet. Not that males can't have male problems - I don't have experience with that.
    I will say that next time I get a budgie, it will be a male, and just one at a time. Fortunately, my husband is retired and can spend lots of time with him.

    • @bonD6002
      @bonD6002 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That must have been so stressful. I was so confused when I found an egg in the shower too, my female budgie laid one without a male. I learned that its a hormone thing when they are ready to breed, but once that part passes then apparently they lay an unfertilised egg. Sort of how women menstruate or whatever. To prevent or reduce this, they gotta be separated for a while form other budgies and kept in low light conditions to calm hormones. Also to help the egg bound issue, calcium is good for strength.

    I think males are better to get as a first pet bird as they are a lot easier to tame as they are very social, my male budgie was already sitting on my shoulder the day after I got him. Females are usually more aggressive, my friends female budgie killed their male budgie. Anyway both are great pets, and female budgies are not extremely aggressive and are usually quite playful

We are thinking of breeding him but he is not used to any other budgie, has been spoiled rotten for the past four years and are worried he will make life difficult for any female budgie. Wondering if we should get a male instead but he is such a character and a beautiful bird, that we feel it is sad we cannot breed him.

    • @BudgieWorld
      @BudgieWorld  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      when they are in breeding mood, they would compete for the female, so that's why you can see them fighting.
      if you remove the non paired male, or the female. you will solve the fighting problem since it is all because of the female.
      anyway if you don't spend much time with your budgies, I would suggest you buying a budgie to your left out one.
      if you have a breeding box, it could be the cause of the problem as well. you can try to remove it first and see if they still fight, then you have to separate them.

    • @pungetello
      @pungetello 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should really get more than one; they are social animals and will probably be depressed if they don't have another bird friend. Some birds are fine with the humans being their friends, but to do this you would have to spend a lot of time with them every day; it's a lot easier and better to get two or more birds. Also, if you get them both/all from the same pet store, they will already be friends and won't need time to adjust to each other.

      Pungetello Thank you! My friend is getting a budgie, and since I have 2 guinea pigs and know that they can’t be kept alone. I wanted to help her and figure out if it was okay to just have one.

    My parents brought me two budgies and i think they are both females.its 3rd day and i was scared that they may fight they still haven’t.
    I named them brazil and tweet because of their colour
    I think brazil is less than 4 month
    But tweet is not they sit together tweet sometimes. Problem occurs when i listen any budgie video to know more about them they start panicing and twetting.

      if they are a bit scared of you that doesn't mean they hate you, they need time to get used to you and be more comfortable with you around

    I am planning of buying two budgies, a male and a female, I want to tame them, so that they sit on my fingers and be comfortable with me. Its ok if it doesn't learn to speak (the male)....Will it be difficult to hand tame both of them?

    • @BudgieWorld
      @BudgieWorld  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the younger the budgie is, the easier, and with two it is more difficult than one, but it is achievable.

    Males are easier to tame. Especially if you have a couple. The advantage is that if you have an opposite sex pair, she will catch on from him.

    What do you do if you accidentally buy a male and female unaware and they have babies is it fine to return the male and get a female or are you stuck with a breeding pair

    I have 2 budgies. I love them so much. They have very light lavender ceres.One is blue and one is white. The blue one chases the white one from branch to branch, chases the white one from toys, food and water and chases the white one away when Icome to talk to them.. Sometimes the blue one gives the white one a break but it's the same thing every day. The cage is a very large flight cage so they have plenty of space. Other times they preen and feed eachother and sometimes the white one follows the blue one so I'm not sure if I should separate them or not. Any suggestions?
