Ah, I was really impressed at first thinking this was actually a playable Atari game, not just a game in Atari style for PC... makes way more sense this way. Still cool though.
My first thought was "which atari?" There's no way it could be 2600, but possible for 7800. While looking in the description, the video configured controls for a keyboard, eliminating any possibility this was done on actual hardware.
This has very simplified graphics and yet it couldn't run on an actual Atari. Makes you appreciate the NES even more, it may look ancient now but it was a huge step ahead in its time.
The Atari 8-bit systems debuted in 1979. While impressive for that time, its graphics chips were showing its age by 1983 when the Famicom was released or 1985 when the NES was released. And when Mega Man 2 (arugably one of the best NES titles) was released in 1988, the Atari 8-bit computers were ancient. Although I would love to see how Capcom would've done an Atari 8-bit release if it put in the same resources as it did to make the NES version. Atari's system was better for basic 3-D (something the NES wasn't goo at), but the NES tile based graphics worked better for shooters and platforms. (Plus, of course, the Atari 8-bit being a computer too.)
I like that there's little examples on how to use each weapon. Some work a little differently than in the original NES game. I don't think you can use Leaf Shield and move with it normally, or adjust the range on the Air Shooter projectiles.
This is cool! The remixing of the stages is a fun change. I love Wily 3 was actually made tougher. Also really liked the music. It is almost identical to the NES original.
Nice! Although I specifically got here wondering wether you chose to jump OR shoot with the ONE button on the controller (maybe shoot and use joystick up for jumping) thinking it was an actual atari demake
Lol well, I did know there were systems before the NES, I never really thought of what could you "demake" from a NES. You demake it to Atari, of course! 😅
This port is actually very possible. Writing it for the 2600 wouldn't be a "demake" which is insulting but a stripped down port. For the Atari 8-bit conputer, it's definitely a port.
No, there are several things that wouldn't work... the text is too high of a resolution and too many letters at once without flickering, the same applies for the sprites and background objects. And the music is 3 voices + drums while the Atari 2600 only has 2 sound channels. But maybe this would be doable with an enhancement chip like the one in the Pitfall II cartridge. Still this seems to me more like a Colecovision game than an Atari one.
Still looks and sounds too good to be an Atari game. Atari would have no music and VERY little detail in the sprites. They would basically be blocks. Look at Pac-man for the 2600.

yeah, the very first screen already looked better than anything I've ever seen on an Atari. The title is misleading.
Thank you, that’s the exact same reason I clicked on the video.

I thought the same until I heard the classic intro theme music which totes can’t be done on a 2600, no matter now good the programmers are now

Sound is too good to be a demake… Thought this was gonna run on a real Atari 2600.
Super impressive demake. Also, the changes to the stages are welcome! :)

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Turns on “seizure-friendly mode.”
First boss fight proceeds to flash more than a dozen times. lol
Seizures need friends, too.
That dragon was downright awesome. There's no denying that whatsoever.
Edit - That Gutzdozer was Biff McGnarly as well.
I like how the maker used unused content
its cool, and it representate atari graphic style very well....
but this is pc not atari.

A demake that substantially improves upon the original. All eight weapons are - get this - USEFUL!

Wonderful work!
Is there a RPM available? This is AWESOME
incredible!
The landing sound though
There is no way to make Mega Man ugly, this demake proves you can’t do it
Is this in the console? Don't think Atari memory can handle all those. Either way pretty cool.
This would be more possible on the Atari 800 line, particularly those with more RAM
impressive

"flash man's stage is too short"
Wow that is very cool! 👍
Not bad, the graphics have an Atari ST quality. Although the game speed is way too fast for a ST.
This is more akin to the Atari 800 or 5200. Still, looks sick!
Pretty faithful recreation of Mega Man 2 on the Atari 8-bit computers. ^^ It even has the intro and ending sequences! Very cool!
Its a PC game in the style of Atari
😊🎉😢
MS-DOS sfx, ah, good times.
So the music wouldn’t work on Atari hardware, is the game itself just a graphical de make or could it work if out on a cart?
Made from the ground up for PC. It's not trying to emulate the Atari 2600 down to its limitations, so some liberty is taken.
this can technically be done on the atari ST
Yeah, easily. I think it can even be done on a Colecovision or MSX.
not bad at all visualy, music is to "good" though for the 2600 though
Where can I find the rom?

Looks like Metal Blade got a nerf on vertical shots
Yeah thats supposed to be an all 8 directional shot!
sound effects are way too loud
Nice job on this demake and this is an amazing use of this OST:
