    The experimentation and innovation supported by research that you and your coach (family) are bringing to the support is really intelligent. It's great that you are so transparent with your methodologies. That is the hallmark of good science. This video was very informative. You approach swim training not ideologically, but intelligently. It's empirical, evidence based training. Your quiet confidence is warranted. You guys are doing more for swimming than just collecting hardware (trophies). I think you also manage to show great respect for the sport as you challenge orthodoxy. Good job Andrew family!

      MARLIN GOD Dressel and Murphy are pretty much locked into the relay. Murphy looks really good and Dressel is already 50.5 without taper. I think Andrew can be like 59.0 flat start and probably 58 relay start. The relay is going to be crazy good

  • @212ntruesdale
    @212ntruesdale 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very excited to see Michael Andrew break through, be on a senior national team. I've been a follower since age group days, even before you turned pro. I'll be honest, I hoped it would work out for you, but wasn't confident. I didn't think training alone would work for one thing. My own kid loves to train with others, hates to alone. Then there's the fact that yr dad didn't know swimming from his own experience. And then there was USRPT, which I only wondered about because so many others didn't believe. Let's face it, you are the best example, by far, that it works. Well, congratulations to you both for having shown all the doubters. Can I still be a fan having been a doubter? Yes, I can! If you would, please, let me know how many times per day USRPT allows you to train. I know you had your own pool and in-house coach. Is USRPT valid if someone can train just once a day (most people). Is it really only best if you can fit in doubles (or even triples)? I sense that it is incredibly tiring, needs a shorter timeframe, but then any aerobic shortfall should be made up for by training additional sessions. That is my sense, but you tell me, please, exactly how often you trained. Thank you, best wishes, and I will continue to enjoy watching you.

    • @MyoFit
      @MyoFit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once a day is great for most people. It can be tiring but you feel great 10-20 minutes after you finish. There is no aerobic shortfall. You train the events you swim and the aerobic/anaerobic systems are optimized for the event. If he was a miler he'd be doing 100/200s at 1500 pace.

    • @212ntruesdale
      @212ntruesdale 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! It sounds like the only reason age groupers aren't trained this way is because they don't want young kids specializing.

    • @MyoFit
      @MyoFit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Swims youth specialization means sport specialization. Have them play soccer, baseball, etc. other seasons. Age groupers aren’t trained this way cuz 99% of coaches don’t fully understand it

    Does Michael work on technique between USRPT sets while recovering and flushing the lactate from his body, or are seperate times/days set apart fro this aspect - I ask more especially for training younger age group athletes from age 10-14 (from an Ex-Pat South African now living in Israel) :)

    So if you're aiming to hold 12.5 on your breast that'd be 50 seconds for a 100 breast? I'm assuming you ad a second for each turn but also that the start takes away at least a second? Why is your 100 breast pace so fast?

    • @gatsby7808
      @gatsby7808 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peterson Brothers Productions turns are the second fastest portion of the race behind the start. Im not sure if it’s the same in breast, but I’d assume so as long as his pullouts are good

    • @ThePetersonBros
      @ThePetersonBros 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think you understood my question. Have you done USRPT? He is timed from when his feet leave the wall to when his hands touch the wall. That cuts out the time it would take for him to touch the wall turn around and have his feet leave the next wall. Perhaps this was a yards pool and that would explain the crazy fast time. 50.0 makes more sense for a pace for him in SCY than SCM.

    Hey this isn’t really related to the video but how do you train for the 400IM with USRPT?

    • @MyoFit
      @MyoFit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sets of 50s at 200 stroke paces. Sets of transition turns every so often

    • @daltoness1731
      @daltoness1731 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beyond Water Polo but that’s for 200IM

    • @MyoFit
      @MyoFit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s the general theory. 100 pace for 200IM and 200 stroke pace for 400IM. What you should really do is take your IM splits for each stroke and use those. Sets of 50s for 200IM and sets of 75 or 100s for 400IM. Don’t switch stokes within a set. More sets for your weak stroke and less sets for your strong stroke. Always use a technical microcycle

    • @daltoness1731
