Love your videos keep them coming I fish every weekend every day off because of your videos I am now in a kayak and I'm spoiled can't bank fish anymore thank you for your advice
I didn’t realize you got kickbacks from amazon. I’ll keep that in mind. Few videos ago you fished with gulp minnows. I love them thanks. Great for catching bait!!!
Justin. I been following your videos for awhile now. I implement some of you techniques to my fishing habits. And I will admit I been doing allot better now catching catfish. But I do have a certain hook I just picked up recently with is the the mustad green hooks. They been doing great for me and my family since we all fish for catfish. The mustad hook shows they are made with a new technology that is now being used for fishing tackle. My daughter's boyfriend just landed a much cat last night that was his first ever largest fish he has ever caught. Where I thought he may loose it because of the hook. It did not fail him.
That was my experience as well. Started fishing with Team Catfish, tried Gamakatsu then Mustad. Lost more with the Mustad. Never lost a fish with Team Catfish double action. Going to use them exclusively from now on. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks Joe! I often wonder if I would be better off leaving well enough alone and just sticking with what I know works all the time. Always second guessing lol.
Very interesting. I've ALWAYS had 1000X better luck with the Texas rig vs. the Carolina rig when using plastic worms, craws, etc when bass fishing, but since literally almost everyone uses the Carolina rig for cats, that's what I've always used. Come this spring I'm going to give your knocker rig a try and see if it helps me catch more cats too. Great vid as always, brother! I just can't figure out how people give your vids a thumbs down?!, you couldn't be a more likable and nice guy that puts out great vids and tries to help others catch more fish too. I just dont get it. Keep up the great work.
The Whisker Seeker Triple Threat hooks have the same “hybrid” shape with the bent eye. I’ve been happy with them as well as the Team Catfish Double Action Hooks.
I've always used the knocker rig for cut bait fishing from the bank and never had any hook up issues. I don't use beads for spacers or anything though I guess it's a similar effect using a big swivel with a safety clip for easy hook swaps if needed.
Several years ago I did some experiments on hook shapes on trot lines. I started off with every other hook being J hooks and Kahle hooks . Same bait on both hooks (cut shad). The Kahle out caught the J hooks 2 to 1. I then took the J hooks off and tried the Team Catfish double actions. The Team Catfish outcaught the Kahle by about 50%. I switched all the hooks to Team Catfish and my catches were really something to see. I would often times have over 50% hook up on the lines when the catfish were running decent.
I absolutely love Team Catfish Double Action Circle hooks! They have crazy trigger action when snelled because of the straight shank and eye. I think it still has a trigger action when you don't use snell's too.
Ive always loved the Octopus Gamakatsu off set circle hook. I tried out the Team Catfish double action circle for bigger baits, it has that little drop in the bend of it that handles bigger baits. We all have lost nice fish on account of the bait spinning around and the hook point going back in the bait. Have not had that happen with the team catfish hooks.
I have lost several fish every year because of hook turning back into the bait too. Hopefully I will see an improvement on that with the team catfish hooks as well. Thanks for watching!
Just wanted to tell you that I actually used to use Gamakatsu as well and I switched to team catfish and I also noticed more hookups. In my specific scenario I put them side-by-side to look at them and try to figure out why and what I noticed was the bait has a tendency to ride up closer to the actual Barb on the gamakatsu hook which I think keeps some fish from getting properly hooked up.
i use the same hooks and also use mustad octopus hook still trying to break the habit of setting the hook which i have come use to doing so i miss some but i keep reminding myself don't jerk just reel down or pick up but i am getting better thanks for the informative videos justin i enjoy them
Its kinda funny sometimes how things work out differently for different people. I switched from the Gamakatsu big cat circles to the Team Catfish double action circles. Nothing else changed on my rigs and my hookup ratio got way worse. So I changed back. Glad the change to them worked in your favor. My next change is to spool braid on a couple of reels and see how I like it. I'm curious about the difference zero line stretch will make. I may try to Team Catfish hooks again later with the braid and see if I like them better then. Great video as always bud.
Thanks! Sorry to hear the team catfish hooks didn't work out for you. Me being in the kayak may have something to do with it as well. The kayak getting pulled in the water when the fish hits may affect it somehow.
I've been using team catfish gear for a long time and I've had great success with their products. If anyone is into channel cats the team catfish: sudden impact fiber bait is one of the best on the market! Also keep up the awesome content man love your videos. They always motivate me to get out and search for that big blue cat!
Good teaching moment video. I do the same with hooks....just on a much smaller scale....LOL. I finally found a 1/24 ounce jig head with a hook I really like but when catching those 14-16 inch Spots I found in battling those fish the gap on the hook was bending open. The bigger the fish the more it would bend. Which I find odd since I was using 2.1# and 2.3# test IGFA rated line. My drag was probably set at about 3/4 of a pound. So I guess my search for the best micro jig head with small hooks goes on.
I’ve been using team catfish hooks mainly for a few years also and seem to have better hook ups as well. Nice video as well man. I’m finally getting out and going fishing in the morning to test out some of those baits I got.
If you use a reverse dropper loop would be perfect. We use this setup when drifting large white seabass and yellowtail. Sinker(heavy as you want) on the bottom and hook above sinker however long you want wih a dropper loop. Very strong and if done right hookup ratio very high.
Thank you for the video very informative I've had some luck with chicken breast marinated in garlic powder left overnight in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator went fishing next day and I caught seven catfish the biggest one being 26 lb
Ive been using the gamakatsu big cat circle hooks since ive started catfishing, ive had great success with them but i have been curious in switching it up a little bit, im going to try these team catfish hooks and im also going to try whisker seekers triple treat hooks
Hey Justin thanks for the great info on hooks and rigging I mostly bank fish and having a really hard time finding skipjack here in ky so I use the good reliable creek chub and bluegill both live and cut...one quick question though when are we gonna see you back on the water? Keep up the great work I have learned a ton from watching your past videos
Thanks Russell! Glad you find the videos helpful. I post my fishing videos every Sunday night at 7pm. I currently have videos uploaded and scheduled through the end of November so lots of fishing action coming in the next couple months.
So Justin, out here in Arizona we don't have the bigger, deeper rivers that you have at home. So, do I need the heavier rigs that you use there? And, we don't have skipjack out here. All we have is shad, bluegill and carp. I've had pretty good luck with all of it to a certain extent, but not the greatest. Do you have an idea on any of that? The only other alternative is artificial baits. Thanks.
The main reason I use the heavier rigs is just because of the wind. If you deal with that, the heavier sinkers will help keep your baits down where you want while suspend fishing. As far as bait goes, I would try to use shad if those are prominent in your river. Carp and bluegill work as well but I would go with shad if given those three options.
I used to use the exact same hook until this past weekend. I hooked up on a 40 -45lbs fish got him to the side of the boat and right time I put my hand in his belly to spin him around and… pop hook broke off at the shank. I went straight to the local tackle store and bought a pack of locally made 10 alt hooks and replaces all the 8 alt gamakatsu hooks I had. I’m done with gamakatsu now
Me and my bro noticed on ur Las video that you was using a different sinker lol were always looking for an edge too that's why we spend hours watching TH-cam lol
The Daiichi Chunk Light 7/0 is the same hook but cheaper. You can get bulk packs off eBay or bottomdwellerstackle.com. I've been using these exclusively the past 10 years along with the Charlie Brown 9/0 HD from bottomdwellers as well.

I live in Kansas City, Missouri and have used shad and bluegill all the time. I would like to use skipjack, but I don't know where to find them and how to catch them. Any tips?
Skipjack may not be native to your area. If they aren’t, I would just stick with the shad and bluegill which are native to your home waters. If you do have them in your area, fish the backwater areas in the winter months and the dams in early spring. They will spread out to the main channel in the summer months and then start moving toward the creeks and backwater areas again in the fall. Crappie jigs and foley spoons are typically the best baits to use for them.
@@KayakCatfish I'll definitely give it a try. I know we have Golden eye and moon eye up here so maybe while trying jigs for them I might run into a skipjack as well. Carp here is plentiful so I plan on using that too I've heard it's a very good bait to use. Bloody and oily fish if you haven't tried it yet let me know when you do! I've learned alot from your videos and enjoy seeing your success.

Geez man. 11:21 of your close-up face talking about hooks? How about some b-roll every now and then of bikini girls or something. Click bait would have been appropriate in this situation.
Don’t pretend like you didn’t enjoy all 11:21 of it. Besides, I know you have no interest in seeing girls in bikinis. Now if Scott Taylor was in a bikini though.....

@@KayakCatfish Hey thanks man, it's no problem lol, thanks for the birthday wishes!
Can you post a link to the Carolina clamps?
Here is a link to them on amazon but you will be far better off buying them at Academy if you have one close to you. They are much cheaper there than on Amazon. amzn.to/2znSTue
Thank you for the quick reply

Thanks being number 1!
