Updates often have hidden agenda's with the intention of tracking your usage
with sinister results.
Switching off automatic updates and any data gathering settings is essential
not only on Fire devices but on your phone and computer.
That’s right every device I have I disable automatic updates.

To the people wanting to know why you want to stop Amazon updates it's easy. They are going to stop you from downloading custom launchers because they want to advertise. Soon you will try to go to your custom launcher, and it will return you to the Amazon home screen. Who knows what might be next? they may stop us from loading and using third party apps?!!

Getting all a bit complicated now for my simple mind.never had any issues with updates myself but i am not saying others are not.just wish we could go back a few yr as simpler then.as other comments already said dress sense brill but mini dress better think you have a bit of a following.

I appreciate you sharing! But I’m having a little trouble when I put the hit the connect button I’m not getting the pop up to go to setting and stop the fire tv from automatic updates. I’m in the U.S. and use the 24 code then blank on the connection page. I know I’ve seen the option to connect like I’m supposed to be getting. It usually comes up. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, I’d appreciate some help! Love you channel btw. Keep the videos coming please!

My FS 4K has a hard wired connection to the internet. Do you have a video to block the updates with hard wired? Thank you for all your great vids.

Ive never had update problems in the past, why stop them now unless there's a security risk?
As mentioned in the video, some people just do not like Amazon pushing updates to their devices. It is a personal choice and up to you. I DO NOT need and DO NOT want to block updates but is something that many users have been asking for recently. I'm just showing those users that WANT to do it HOW to do it. If you do this on an ethernet connection the second DNS fills in as 8.8.8.8 automatically after completion. Is this an issues Tanya?

Followed the video. However the dns portal does not come up. Is this step important as I'm still getting update error upon checking for updates.

it is unlikely the new OS will be rolled out to devices you already own. However, if you wish to block updates, follow the steps in this video. However, please note that when you follow the video and get to the DNS portal, it won't pop up but that's ok, simply follow the rest of the video.
Great tutorial, however this does not work if you use a VPN unless you add DeviceSoftwareOTA & System Updates to Split Tunnel or Exceptions list. If you don't do this step, which is crucial, as soon as your IP address changes via the VPN the firestick will update. Split tunneling ensures that the firestick's app does not use the VPN when transmitting and thinks it remains the same initial IP address. Would be a good follow-up video if you could show and demonstrate what I am referring to. Again great tutorial.
Also to be clear this method means only the data going from your Firestick that is within the Split tunneling/Exceptions list, while the VPN is active, will go through the DNS. All other traffic that using the VPN will not go through the DNS setup in the video. This is important because the DNS will not be tracking what you do via the VPN.
Is this still the case even as mentioned in the video that you can use this with a VPN if you also change the DNS with the VPN app?

Went to network as you suggested but when I highlight over the one I want to delete it just asks for password in other words I cannot delete it any suggestions thanks

But I saw a different behaviour while doing the steps
After I left the DNS2 blank and clicked connect, the DNS portal page didn't open for me and it took me to the network page and showed my network is connected, I can't take a risk of check for update, So please let me know if the DNS portal page setting has anything to do with blocking updates. Please advise.
If the DNS portal fails to load, don't worry. Just continue following the instructions provided in the video.

Hi Tanya! My Nvidia Shield prevents log in of my iptv service using both the iptv service app and Startup Show. But when updating Startup Show thru the Playstore, it works. If installing the app fresh, rather than updating, it prevents log in. Do you know a solution to this?
