That's funny. I couldn't care less about Trump, but I am sickened by the people (specific people whom I know personally) who champion him as a hero. Trump will eventually die and be forgotten, while my nutjob family members and their unhinged comrades aren't going anywhere ever, and will happily support any belligerent asshole soever.
The level of disrespect that Donald Trump shows his own supporters absolutely infuriates me on every level. It is, in a long list of ungentlemanliness, the cherry on top of his rejection of basic chivalry. It's so fundamentally Trumpian, that consumerist hyperindividualism --- almost like the worst parts of American culture rolled into one. I'm not super super against Trump, and I'm certainly not a Democrat, but I can't imagine people who see this and think nothing of Emily Post being discarded so casually.
This is not meant as an attack. I'm genuinely curious..... How one Earth are you not super super against Trump? Like.. Are you super against, just not super super? Or.... Trump is essentially the opposite of that. The way he has chosen to use his time in this physical realm absolutely disgusts me on a fundamental level.
@@CarpeUniversum Let me see if I can explain this. I think that Trump is an extremely moderate Republican with far right rhetoric and no sense of personal morality. If he does get into office, the nation will be more politically divided and not much more. There's no true *political* threat from him, just a *sociological* one. And that's bad, and certainly enough for me to strongly oppose him, but I won't act like I think he's Hitler because I don't think he's Hitler. Heck, the only thing keeping me from even considering him despite, well, everything else is his abandonment of abortion.

Well you can trace consumerist hyperindividualism back to Reagan. Watergate, Monica Lewinsky, and Bush Jr. really undermined the idea that the President is supposed to be someone you'd want your children to emulate. Social conservatives have been losing the culture war since 1992 and in 2012 you could feel like the GOP was a party on it's way out. In a lot of ways Trump is a combination of Reagan, Nixon, Dubya, and PT Barnum. He took some good ideas from people like Ross Perot and Ron Paul on trade and foreign policy, but he's a better campaigner than a politician. Poor people love him because when he tells a reporter to shut up, it's something they've always wanted to do, but weren't able to because they would be ostracized. If Obama made a clean break with Bush's foreign policy, didn't bail out the banks, and supported Biden as the 2016 Democratic nominee, Trump would just be a footnote.
@@CarpeUniversum Here's the thing: Reaganism was hugely popular in the 80s, so the Democrats adopted it in the form of Clintonism. These policies don't yield results until years later. Already in the 90s the two parties were very polarized. Clintonism is Reaganism without the social conservatism. Now that Republicans have nothing to offer except social conservatism, their strategy is to gridlock (see Hillary's 1993 healthcare plan). Since 1992 the Republicans have been so bad that the Democrats don't feel the need to try and improve. Obama looks like a good President compared to who came before him and who came after him. Trump tapped deeply into those that suffered from Reagan and Clinton's economic policies. Most Americans think highly of the 36 year period between 1933 and 1969.
