Hey bro, I started watching your tutorials from high school through college(undergrad, masters),now I'm a python dev. Thanks a lot for everything. I owe my career to people like you. You guys are the real heroes.
Think it's a combination of programmers tend to be self-learners and self sufficient-minded + urge to do more engineering, but away from a screen/digital world.
@@sentdex Programmers indeed tend to be self-learners and often want to start doing everything by themselves (good example is the amount of software and framework which exists that does the exact same). I live in Japan and also planning on moving to the country-side and planning on growing most of my vegetables myself. :p
Started watching 9 years ago (found you via the python/ flask series) and I'm glad to see that life is going well. Hope you and the family continue to prosper, much love from the Carolinas.
I started watching your channel way back when _my_ twin daughters were just slightly older than toddlers. I was a grad music student then trying to learn some ML, and now I've been working as an ML scientist for over 7 years. Time goes by so quickly. Thanks for all your work, and enjoy being in the twins club. It's a very busy one but is also very rewarding!
Congratulations Harrison! being a creator myself, and having followed you for a decade I can appreciate the hard work you put in. You deserve it man, I'm happy for you. Keep bringing us these vlogs, looks fun and it's insightful! I hope to do something similar one day. Cheers! ~Gareth
Thank you so much! I started my python and machine learning journey with your data science playlist, and it remains an amazing and unforgettable experience even now. I’m also grateful for showing how cool and kindhearted python engineers can be. I hope that one day ur community can teach our trainees with the same respect, enthusiasm, and kindness that you do.
For what it's worth, one of the huge upsides of a great creator like you making tutorials is getting suggestions of what's possible. LLMs are great for learning things, but often people don't know good questions to ask. Love seeing the ranch! Will definitely watch the solar progression.
Youre probably right there. I almost shared a 3D game of life but figuring out how to package it is hard. Its basically just constant r&d til it works. Not sure itd be an enjoyable watch
Came across your neural networks from scratch series/book as a curious 16 year old and fell in love with all things machine learning. I'm now 20 and about one month away from graduating university with a degree in comp sci majoring in AI! Thank you sentdex!
It's amazing to see you taking on so many interesting new projects! Thanks to you, I got interested in programming and ML 6 years ago, which ultimately led me through university to a career in this field. Please show us more of what you're working on - even the non-programming stuff. I'm sure it will inspire others to pursue their own path, just like you once inspired me. Guess now I need to buy a ranch too, following in your footsteps haha
Very nice ranch on a beautiful site. Happy for you and your family. This whole stuff you showed us is definitely worthy of whole series . Like many here mentioned I remember learning python and ML from your early days tutorials. Now it would be cool to watch you doing your solar, garden, bees, photography, etc. projects. And of course a tractor. One has to love a tractor.
Oh wow, you're just a couple hours north of me now. Gorgeous property, and very cool to see one of my favorite CS content creators getting into homesteading, which is something else I want to get into. Glad your growing family is well!
I really love these rambling about projects type videos. Really reminds me of the old days where you always had all these projects and worked on them for a bit and shared the progress. You are probably one of my top priorities to watch whenever a new video comes out. Happy to see you doing well and keeping busy with all sorts of things.
Super happy for you brother and a big Thank You,as an older newbie, your videos were the ideal start point. I'm in my second year of a Software Engineering degree ,wouldn't have happened without your Python plays GTA vids.
Hey man. I just came across this video. I missed your videos and I hope you're doing great. Just remembered that it was a little over 10 years ago, I started watching your videos and you got me through bachelor and master
I've only just recently found your channel, while I was learning about neural networks. Your Tutorials have been really helpful, thanks for everything. :)
They're incredibly cheap now and the tech for these is absolutely bananas. The digital fpv stream is nothing like how things used to be with the analogs and the signal strength seems p solid even when flying thru dense forest. Sometimes I just go exploring in the woods. Probably microwaving my brain every time I use it, but damn it's fun XD.
Awesome video mate, walking a very similar path as you as we are moving rurally, also going large with solar, also deploying hydroponics for family vegetables powered via solar.
The ranching content is pretty good, please keep it coming :) Seems like almost every programmer eventually would like to end up on a farm, so congrats that you are already there!
Great to see you living your dream life, Harrison and you and family are doing well. I bought your excellent book so hopefully I contributed in some tiny way. Although I will admit, rather selfishly, I wish you were still doing fun / innovative AI videos especially given how rapidly AI is advancing now. Have fun, and greeting from the UK!
Heyyyy it's sentdex! You are the one that got me into computer science and machine learning. You're changing lives for the better. Hope you and the family are well.
I don't know if it's because the good jobs in our field tend to be in big cities, but there's just something very appealing about living in the countryside with high speed internet and few neighbors. Also didn't know your drone could go that far with so many trees around. That's pretty cool.
Thank you for inspiring me to put in the effort to become a programmer 8ish years ago. It was your Python Plays GTAV that got me hooked right as I dropped out of college. I’m deploying LLMs now. Worked in big tech. In some sense pushing up against the boundaries of what’s technically feasible. Started and closed some startups. I have a family now. I’ve done well for myself, but I will forever be grateful to you for providing me with an accessible opportunity to learn how to program. A part of me is sad to know that there won’t be more of those kinds of tutorials (for no reason other than nostalgia), but I understand. Can’t blame ya really, I’d probably do the same thing. Anyways, thanks. I’m glad to see you and your family are doing well.
I still think about doing tutorials re: devving with LLMs or something, it's just totally different now. But I still think people could be inspired to work on cool stuff very much in the same way. It was just so easy to package previous tutorials, I need a new way to present it.
@@sentdex Maybe build a brand new thing using LLMs each video? It would give insight into how to think about using them. From my experience, unlike with text to image AIs like with Midjourney where all the prompts are public, working with code and AI isn’t, so it’s much harder for a newbie to understand how to properly use an AI for coding.
Your book is just amazing! I wish I had a book like that when I first started with NN 15 years ago! So well written! totally recommend it to anyone starting NN!
I got interested in python in college because of your tutorials and they helped me a lot in understanding python and that led me to working in AI for 5 years now. Thank you for your service 🙏❤
Congratulations on the twins, they are going to have so much cool stuff to play with growing up! Something I wondered; if the power goes out, do you lose internet access as well or is the ISP connection unaffected? Do the cell towers in a remote area have backups or different powerlines? Totally agree on staying on grid in combination with solar, seems by far the most cost effective solution. The power infrastructure in general is a bit underdeveloped right now but I'm sure we'll see power infra upgrades over the coming years / decade in the remote areas. The ranch is looking amazing! Owning a tractor / shovel (I guess excavator in English?) is really a force multiplier for so many projects. As for a horse or donkey, maybe you could look for rescued ones that need a home (if it's an option for you - I'm not sure)? Living the dream!!
At the moment i lose net because of where the starlink is connected. Once i solar the first chunk of the house though i wont lose internet anymore even if city power drops. Cell should stay in tact but we have p bad cell out here anyway. Have looked at some donkey rescues and apparently BLM adopts out and sells some from their lands as they get over populated.
Hey man, I think you are one of people thanks whom I now work as backend developer. I remember watching your videos when I learned how to code. Thanks a lot.

Hey man. Good to hear from you after so long. Enjoy your time with the kids. You've made enough videos for many upcoming students of AI to learn a ton. So, no one's in a hurry, take your time
Hey sentdex, I started watching you way while back when you were making a bot which plays GTA 5 on its own or a program that auto aims which you coded behind the scenes so people wont exploit it. I have been interested in making those things but never could because I was a novice back then but loved watching you make them. Love your projects and everything you do. I hope everysingle day of yours goes great and I wish you a really happy life.
Nice hideout man. I was and i am big fan of your both pygta5 and DL chatbot projects. Those were the ones that tought me deep learning. I really hope one day you'll do more projects like those. 🤞
nice also in a nice hectare working at it in a lonely 1k person town out here down in New Zealand Thames... pretty relaxing ! A bit harder to buy things though down here so lots of improvising
I am working towards mostly off-grid house. What a dream. Living off-grid, on solar, and doing biotech research/programming. What state is your land in, and what was the approximate price? UPDATE: It is Alabama.😊
Depends where you're looking for land and the proximity to city + other features of the property like water access/pond/creek, flood status, zoning, and other factors like farm-ability...etc. Generally land is 3-6K an acre around here, but it varies a ton based on a bunch of factors.
I have an entire Tesla solar panel and battery backup at home. This makes life so much easier when hurricanes pass by. It has saved my bacon twice already. Also, power in my area has gotten so expensive that even with the loan I got to buy the system, we are paying half of what we would be paying without the system.

From middle school
And now In undergrad
Same here

Why is it the evolution of a developer is to eventually wanting to move to a farm lmao.
Nice ranch btw
Think it's a combination of programmers tend to be self-learners and self sufficient-minded + urge to do more engineering, but away from a screen/digital world.
Worked my ass off for a few years in software, now i run a small farm and only touch the keys to make side money every now and then.

Cause they have seen where this is going to go and said fuck it I'm out.
The developer urge to automate something you don’t fully understand
