Hello, Peter. I was hoping you may have some advice for me.
I recently have an Airflow Scout, 270-gr head break in half. The line gave way ~51'' from the tip as measured from the end of the loop. I've been watching your series on welding fly lines and I believe I should probably weld them in a manner similar to the method you used for welding a sink tip. Is this advisable? In the interest maintaining the length as much as possible, what would you think the minimum overhang would be?
Thanks for your time and the great content. There certainly isn't another person on youTube offering such rich content on these types of subjects.

A break in the middle of a head is the toughest repair, but it can be done. First thing to do is shave some of the covering off of one side of the line at the break. Shave off about a 1/2" to 1" but leave the core intact. This is fiddly, but can be made easier with some gentle heating to soften the coating. This reduces the diameter of the line at the break so we can create an overlap joint. Put the two shave sections together and weld.
For added security we can weld two pieces each about 2" long of thin running line to either side of the overlap joint. The line will be thicker and stiffer at that joint so we'll probably see the effect in the rollout of the cast, but it won't have a significant impact on performance.

so is only the melting of the pvc coating what’s holding it together? is pvc alone strong enough for fish fighting?

Yes and the joint is actually stronger than the core of the line. I've done quite a few pulled tests on both PVC and PUR lines. The weld never broke. Some other part of the line would always give way first.
