It’s hard for me to get the tip of the reed very thin. The practice rigotti cane I have, it runs down the burr of my knife quickly, and then I have to use the folding steel. I don’t know how to remove more cane quickly. I know that once I get the tip correctly, everything else kinda follows behind it.
How often do you sharpen your knife? I will use my knife on maybe two or three blanks and then I will sharpen it again. Once you scrape all the bark off it can wear down the edge so you’ll have to re-sharpen. You definitely need a sharp knife for the tip since it’s so delicate up there. It takes a lot of practice and a light hand when you’re scraping in the tip. Just keep going and practicing, you’ve got this!
