I always toss an empty next to rope lockers. Then you can store what you are holding when grabbing rope. Once you have gas tanks you can use air pressure to keep your moon pool from flooding.
I’ve been playing Stormworks for around 3 years now and surprisingly I still use the first boat I made… though to be fair the boat has changed a lot over time as I learned and got better in the workbench. Since I use the boat in missions a lot if I ever find it lacking in any area then it’s upgrade time.
Instead of using rope anchors on the deck to strap down the ship you’re transporting I found it’s better to use the small winches instead. Also make sure to change the rope length. If you leave the rope at the default 40m length then it likes to stretch like a bungie but if you change the length then the rope doesn’t stretch. Place a toggle button on the small winches and set your ropes to 8m or 16m to tighten down the transported ship to keep it from moving around however due to Stormworks physics if your boat rocks around to much from high waves there will likely be a explosion between your boat and the boat your transporting resulting in damage.
A lack of oxygen? Sounds like the gas relief valve sucking the air out of the lower bridge room XD Replacing the moonpool and the bow room with a huge water ballast room with a crawl-way in the middle of it for maintenance on the pumps sounds like a splendid idea to me, reminds me of those huge floating drydock vessels, or those huge shipping vessel lifter ships, the ones with the super wide, super long center section and super tall bow and stern rooms that sinks to strafe underneath the stranded ship and then drains its ballast to rise up like a refloating barge to heft the giant dead vessel out of the water. Edit: The Dockwise Vanguard, or well now its the BOKA Vanguard, its called a Semi-Submersible Heavy-Lift Ship. It can reach 12 knots while carrying 116 thousand tons. To be fair, it doesn't go beyond 12 knots even unloaded as far as I know. Its basically four apartment complexes on a city-block sized submersible barge, and its powered by two Wärtsilä 12V38 and two 6L38 engines making 27MW of power. You could make a smaller version that fits in the Stormworks drydock space, inspired in design by your first ship in particular like the super big brother successor to it, made for carrying the heaviest loads possible. Heck, it could be big enough to have a small hospital on board for rescuing a dozens-strong crew while also recovering their vessel XD
I just realized something... The speed dial measured speed in m/s! On your Ocean Liner, the speed was of 21m/s, that is actually 75km/h, that is equivalent to 40 knots! And you said she was kinda slow... She's even faster than the real fastest Ocean Liner in History!!!!!
