Your air compressor is going to give out if you don't swap out the rear air strut. The Rolls will keep it running the entire time your driving in order to level the car out. They are not designed to run that long and are so quiet you don't realize how often it's on.
Good point though with a leak you've got the additional issue of humidity/moisture being likely increased. So you're not only running the pump much more often but also risk oversaturating the dryer for the pump. Which could then let gunk up the lines, pump and shocks.
And one more thing... you said "there's not much to these control arms, as long as they are done properly". Well, with Chinese parts.... that's the PROBLEM!! I have used several aftermarket control arms for various makes and models over the years, and I have found that a little less than 50% of the time, the dimensions of the arms are slightly off. Usually buy a few millimeters. And yes that will absolutely cause your alignment issue!!!! GOOD LUCK BOB!! It's a damn jungle out there with new parts these days.
Keep the Black Wheels on. Get them ceramic coated & that should help with keeping the brake dust off as well as easy cleaning. Informative videos on the Rolls as always. Thanks Bob!
I think putting on the old Continental tires and those black wheels on the car make it stand out in a good way. If you have tread tire issues showing up again, it can help pinpoint a problem as it's a suspension issue vs. a tire issue. So instead of pre maturing wearing out new tires, you can find out with these older ones. Also, while you and your friend were working on the car at 47:00 in video, that cut boot, is that the lower ball joint? If it is, get that replaced as soon as you can! A cut boot is detrimental, especially if it a self sealed ball joint. You'll lose the grease or dry out the socket, especially if you're in a dry climate. It won't be long before the wheel pops off!
Hey Bob, they just need to realize your rolls is a hobby and all hobbies cost money to maintain and it’s a beautiful car at that and you can’t put a value on that. Keep up the great videos my friend I love watching them…😊
Hi Bob, I think the wear on your rear tyres is caused by under inflation. If the tyre is too soft, it will tend to run on the very thick sidewalls of the run flat tyre. I had this with my 5 series touring. After swapping to non runflats, it no longer wore the inners of my rear tyres. I now run a Bentley GT and a Range Rover. No more runflats for me!
Hello Bob: I commend you on your lifestyle especially your Rollers. IT GOES TO SHOW THAT HARD WORK PAYS OFF !!!! This is my 63 year of working on vehicles. Please fix your air leaks/ worn rear shock first then replace your tires & then finally perform the wheel alignment, with a full tank of fuel. Love your channel, TMP from N.J.
Dont Stop bein' you Bob, you are living my dream. I get exactly what you mean. I don't understand someone wanting to live A minimalist life when it's as short as it is....
I couldn’t agree with you more on your analogy of living life to the fullest as we are here for a short time so hell yea I want the best I can get. 💪🏻👍🏻
As you know, I am a Mercedes-Benz mechanic (over 15 years experience), and my advice to you is to take your Rolls to the "dealer" for an alignment if at ALL possible! Historically, I have found that basically NOBODY seems to know how to do a proper alignment. Everyone is way too sloppy and they aren't precise enough. At least with the dealer, you have a fighting chance.
Bob, I think the Black Rolls Rims with the older tires 🛞 should be put back on the car and use them for a year or two and wear them out. Because if you go with new tires on the silver rims. Those black set will be too old and unsafe to put on later on being it’s such a heavy car. Besides I think the black rims on silver car looks very cool.
The silver @24:10 as a dude with FOUR silver vehicles you always blend into adjacent panels ESPECIALLY with metallic colors. Half my Viper was blended after doing a Gen 4 hood swap. Completely invisible transition.
Bob, I've had the same tire wear on the inside of the tire, on my big body Benz on the same side, check your CAMBER on your alignment, there is a positive and negative settings, I was eating up tires every two years, until I had the Camber fixed. I would look into this issue.
“if you own a boat, if you own a plane, if you own an Rv, If you have a beautiful woman… these THINGS just cost extra money” 😂😂😂😂😂 OH Bob you are so oblivious to your choice of words I forgive you on behave of all women… but women aren’t “things” I’m not a feminist but GOD DAMN CHOOSE YOUR WORDS WISELY DUDE 20:17
Unattractive women are not wooed, not pursued, they are not asked out to dinner, guys won't buy them flowers. Attractive, thin, young women are constantly hit on, given gifts and courted. They can make an entire living on their looks alone without any training or talent. Women may not be possessions but they are the subject of desire that men (and some other women) will spend money to get their attention. You won't find the same happening for an older, over-weight woman, no matter what her own delusional self-positivity is, she will die alone with her cats.
I get what you’re saying Bob and it’s true US attractive women are gifted luxurious and expensive things Gucci, Prada, Armani, Dior and all the expensive makeup you could even imagine etc….all I’m sayin is “things” may have been the wrong choice of a phrase… ima keep on you Bob…. OK, fair enough, although as a noun, women are "things", and may not want to be a possession, but some don't mind. Especially when tied up. ;) @@Iris.J.G
It’s pride of ownership that is important, and that’s what it’s all about. Being able to do what you can to keep the car up to spec is the enjoyment of ownership.
Looks like the engine leak is blowing back onto the transmission. Have someone take a look at it before you pull the transmission pan. Might be engine oil.
Hi Bob, about your engine temperature so stable all the time. Since ther is a lot of bmw tech in, bmw has a stable richt in the middle temp needle since the '80ties, the gage is richt in the middle if the temperature is between 75 and 95 degrees C that would be about 160 to 210 in Fahrenheit. Try it out and read the real time coolant temp. with a diagnostic device. I am curious what the outcome is in the dessert.
maybe the old ones are Chinese as well, Bob! You don't know, you're not the original owner, so who knows if any of the previous owners didn't use OEM if they had to be replaced before? It probably makes sense if you're not going to use this car as a daily driver. It would interesting to find out who makes them for BMW! Maybe the Chinese! I remember seeing a Phantom with less than 5,000 miles that the headliner had sagged, heard about the use of double faced tape for some of the chrome body parts. It was a little bit of a turnoff, but I've seen video of the factory making these cars and it's impressive. $700,000 for a new one and I'm sure BMW is making a huge profit on each one! By the way, who says the Chinese stuff is inferior? Wasn't that what americans said about the Japanese and now look at them, they're making some of the best cars in the world and have a better ranking than BMW. Who is going to afford them when they're used or want them when they're out of warranty, unless they start getting to a price range where the average collector can afford them? I think they'll be a good buy when they're under $50,000! We might all be driving all electric cars by then however! I'm like you, would love to own one, but my pockets aren't deep enough yet! But like you said and what I've read from others, it's the little stuff, the window regulators, the dash pixels, the control arms, the air suspension, the PAX wheel system that are the little problems that will have to be addressed most likely in these cars, not the motors or transmission. It will be interesting when one of these has 200,000 miles to see how they hold up. I would never buy a car with a salvage title but I would buy parts out of a salvage yard, especially if I could find the same color and not have to paint. Nothing is going to last forever, especially electrical parts, sensors, etc., which are definitely the most problematic in modern cars. What you get for $700,000 with a new BMW RR is a warranty, the cost of building three factories & a corporate headquarters, employees, hand built quality, the best leather, a space frame chassis, all aluminum, the design, the engineering and the hype that enables them to charge that amount, not to mention huge depreciation. However, the original owners are so rich, it's not a factor taking the loss and maybe the depreciation is written off on their taxes as a business loss!
22:00 The people who are afraid of getting door dings. Are the ones who scratch & ding other people's cars. When I had an old Z24 hatchback, it never got any new scratches or dings. Because people (who were the door dingers) were afraid to park next to it. Thinking I'd come out & ding their door with my junk car. Like they do to everyone. Soon as I bought a newer truck, constant new dents & scratches from people parking next to me. People who weren't afraid to park next to my Z24, never scratched or dented it.
Black rims for the next year, or until a flat, and then new tires on the silver rims. Black rims are 5 years old so. they are old tires, but you're only driving locally with good roadside assistance.
smell the fluid. my BMW trans fluid, new from the bottle, has a horrible smell. it does not smell like the engine oil. I go thru FCP Euro for the trans kit. The trans manufacture says to change to fluid every 60,000 mile and not to exceed 100,000 miles on the fluid. I saved $850 for the trans service on a 2014 BMW 535d to do it myself.
WOW, such a good point, you are doing the minimum, Thank you for this lesson and YES, that terrible Peanut color. I HATE it, most X308 Jags had it and I will never buy it if it has that..

Put the black tires on. Might as well use them now as they are taking up space and better to use them while they are still good
I agree with everything you say Bob Rolls Royce are some of the best cars out there. One day I will have a phantom . Very nice cars.
