    Went there yesterday (Sunday), 50008, 37227 and 43066 working but the class 31 was not used.

    magnificent shots there loved the 37 and it's thrush at the end glad you got to see the 50 in the end and the rolling stock it was towing remember them well 👍

    I was at Chinnor working on the NSE stand and onboard the 3-CEP.
    It was annoying that things didn't go right with the locos but unfortunately things got worse throughout the weekend.
    However we raised a lot of money to paint the other CEP coach.

    Whilst you were disappointed about the limited 50008 action I think you got some decent footage and some sounds out of 37227 which was sounding better than when you filmed it on your last visit.

    I considered going down the C&PR over the weekend, but on balance I'm glad I chose to stay local and visit the North Norfolk Railway's steam gala instead, and helped out on our miniature railway today. Nevertheless, some nice footage there Mike.

    Good set of clips from the gala, I was one of the guys in the field with you when that bloke shouted "Stand clear of the tracks" off the train, I think hes either the guard or crossing keeper for Wainhill, he ruined my movie also. The 50 on Friday wouldnt start I heard, and had just been sat there since its arrival on Monday - not a good idea. The over power car 046 also I was told also refused to start but cant confirm thats what actually happened. The whole thing wasnt great, and again at the wrong time of the year the snow/sleet showers werent great. Saturday ironically the 50 and power car additionally worked vice the 31/37 combo as I arrived at Chinnor around 1ish. what hurts this line as you day is the speed restriction, it needs ot be double tracked or have a passing lop installed but I doubt thatll happen anytime soon. Probably also now be a good while until I visit this line again unles sthings really improve

      Hi Nicholas, I must agree with all of your comment, it was a very frustrating day for us guys and on Friday the 50 did fail which you can read about the comment before yours.
      There are two speed restriction together now on this line which wasn't there in 2019 the last time I was there, but doing a double track section will never happen.

    I was at a level crossing on the line, the HST breakdown was very annoying but got some good thrash from 37227 and 50008.

      Yes Andy at the crossing I agree, but I 'm sure most people went for the class 50, but another surprise was when I went to get the train home there was a lot of people getting the trains, I recon they too had given up. ATB Mike.

    Extra stops at the crossing generated some extra EE thrash and possibly some bad feeling. Some very smart locos, however.

      The 31 livery was a test train when Network Rail had it, thanks for taking a look at my day at this gala.

      It was a BR Lab vehicle, Hence its renumbering to being a class 97. That was the standad livery for locomoitves invovled with that part of departmental. You can look at stuff like Test Vehicle 4 from the APT Project. That used to wear southern green and was a Hastings Vehicle. Most test vehicles wore it in this period.

    Do you think all of us who put effort in wanted all of these problems with traction sitting down first thing on friday before we even started and had reoccurring problems each day, all of which was out of our control. The 50 had to receive an urgent repair before it could go out, which again, appeared first thing. We did everything we could to ensure it ran as we wanted, but if the traction doesn't want to play ball on the morning of each day, what do you expect us to do, wave a magic wand? But no, lets go in with remarks accusing a railway of not running an event well rather than credit them for keeping things moving in the face of adversities. I do hope you paid for a ticket as well

      I was informed of the problem by someone who know what the problem was on Sunday, and I was very grateful for that information.
      My point I was making James was nobody would say what was going on with the class 50 but why.
      On Friday the information should have been relayed to the public at the event, telling us what was going on with the class 50, I for one would have gave my video a different title.
      We all know the locos are old and its great that guys keep them going in preservation by it doesn't cost anything for a bit of common sense in my mind.

      @@antman09ful1 No one on the station knew what was up with the 50 until mid morning as the fitter was left to get on with his job. The guards did say on the PA on the trains that the 50 was unwell and being worked on.
      I've organised 4 galas since 2017, and this is the first one where it went pear shaped due to numerous traction issues. Things changed on the spot on Friday and had to be a make it up as we go just to ensure trains kept moving and things went out. As said, Friday and Saturday was very far from how we wanted it to go. At least the Sunday ran to the late rehashed plan announced on the Saturday night

      Yes 43066 worked trains but 43046 failed, there was two HST Power Cars at the event mate.

    50008 failed first thing Friday morning. An engineer was summoned & worked his *** off fixing a cracked ?rocker shaft. Amazingly he was able to fix it in just a couple of hours. It then had to be tested to ensure that it wouldn't fail in service. 50008 then made several successful runs for the rest of the day.
    The problem with 'heritage' rolling stock is that it's semantically equal to 'old & knackered'. Things will fail more frequently and will always need more looking after than modern ones.

      My mate asked the question at Chinnor station to one of the staff has the class 50 failed and the guy said don't know.

      Thank you very much for watching but now I have been told the class 50 had failed and with some luck got repaired after working many hours on it, but the organisers should have informed the people who had come many miles from around the country what had happened.
