    I have some extra choice of sizes for my front-ring, but honestly I find the original fine. I have also entered a steep serpentine road, which also made me use the low gears of my original 6, also those I at first found that the lowest gears were rather useless, till then! And I had to walk at intervals. I have seen a chainring with a smaller ring inside, but I honestly would find it a total waste of money, as I would never need a lower gear. Finn. Denmark

      I know what you’re saying, it depends on your level of fitness and the type of riding you do

    one question.... do you need to change some other pieces like the chain or just the chainring works well?

    • @terrysallbikes
      @terrysallbikes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You just need to take 2 links out of the chain, that’s it everything else works fine

    Does it matter whether you're on 6, 3 or 2 speed when you change the chainring?

    All joking aside I presume I got a 50 teeth sprocket with 6gear will I need to shorten my chain or can the tensioner cope

      Alway appreciate a little humour. If you’re going down to 44t take out 2 links

    What is the smallest chainring you can fit on a Brompton

    • @terrysallbikes
      @terrysallbikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      44 is the smallest Brompton sell, but 39 are often used, you may be able to fit smaller but not sure you would want to

    • @barrytipton1179

    You removed a 50t and replaced with 44t to better doing uphills? Correct?

    • @terrysallbikes
      @terrysallbikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it reduces the gearing making it easier on the hills

    Hello Terry, a question, are the teeth on the chainring made of aluminum or steel?

    • @terrysallbikes
      @terrysallbikes  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pretty sure they’re steel.

    How do you like the 44t now?

    • @terrysallbikes
      @terrysallbikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s great, not as easy as the granny gear on my touring bike but gets me up most hills without pushing. Easily the best mod I’ve made .

      @@terrysallbikes How much does it affect your top speed? Did you find yourself topping out and freewheeling on the 50t vs the 44t?

    I'm not a fan of the nuts to hold the chainring. Mostly you just unscrew the front bolt and the rear nut grips well enough to let you slacken the bolt off. If you ever a really tight one it's hard to keep a screwdriver in the shallow slot of the nut.
    It's a wonder they haven't come up with something better.

      do you guys think some treadlock may help on this nuts and bolts?

    • @terrysallbikes
      @terrysallbikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve not had any problems with anything working loose, so no I don’t think it’s necessary

    • @bfeltovi
      @bfeltovi ปีที่แล้ว

      Beeswax makes a decent alternative for threadlock that will keep bolts from vibrating out but doesn’t get quite as LOCKED.
