It would be great if you could do a video on how to pick up plaster off a hawk. I can plaster quite well, even did a ceiling today which turned out quite good but I seem to always struggle with getting the plaster from the hawk proficiently enough. I’ve slowed down a lot. I just know it would make a huge difference once I can master the technique.

I am just starting plastering (at the age of 47) as I am renovating what will be my retirement house. The house is too big to fully replaster, but needs a lot of patches as I am removing tiles, cladding etc.
I have been struggling to blend in plaster and being left with a slight scar an have been using Easifill to feather the edges so I can sand it out perfectly, but will try your tips to see if I can eliminate this step.

Best tip i can give especially for a wall that size is to just whack the full wall on , fuck patching no matter how good your blend it will never be 100% , so yeah where you can just get the full wall on takes just as long and much easier

I’ve had that mate, even worse, the sbr was coming off in sheets, I’d neat sbr’d a painted wall and skimmed it the next day stopping just inside where the tiles were to begin, the tiler touched the sbr and it lifted and he then decided to keep peeling it until it got to my plaster which then came with the sbr. Nightmare

    Class vid again Kirk! Question:
Ive got a ceiling im gonna do, its old artex and the nibs are quite proud but I reckon I'll manage it with a mix of multi and bonding frist coat then skim over with multi for 2nd coat... question was if nibs dont quite get covered can I Pva following day and go a 3rd skim? Even if i could be bothered that day could i do 3rd coat ontop of 2nd without pva? Just with coving already up i really cant be arsed to overboard like ppl suggest to me....obv I see the logic but personally rather do 3rd coat if need be. Any help be appreciated mate

Hi Kirk. I have watched hours and hours of your videos which are very informative. I decided to have a go at plastering a door both sides which I blocked up. I have done dry lining plastering a few times and it always ok. This time it's a disaster. I went to get Board plaster from the suppliers, but on the bag when I got home it said bonding plaster? Anyway, I mixed it with my paddle attached to my SDS drill for around 20 minutes and it was still grainy, not like a mousse concistancy the way yours is. I decided to try it even though deep down I knew it didn't look right. When I tried to put it on the wall it was falling off and if I went one way then back again it dragged it off. I used a derby level to make it straight but it looks like something from the house of horrors. Please tell me how to rectify it!. I am in tears not knowing what to do... HELP!!!. 😮.

a finish as good as a flex and doesn’t bend to the wall which leaves a finish that isn’t flat. I use a flex sometimes if I’m feeling lazy but usually it’s carbon all the way to a plastic for a final flick over

Depends as many decorators now spray fresh walls or builds plus putting a roller onto an un smooth wall looks worse than orange peel and if you roll with a fine head and run it off tight then it does not leave a textured orange peel. A real decorator would have been taught this imo.
