  • In this video Mufti Abu Layth clarifies the widely held misconception that a person is eligible for punishment if they leave Islam. Using clear evidence from the Quran and Sunnah, we see that the freedom to believe or disbelieve is a God given right.

If no one has the freedom to believe, then this life would be pointless.

In fact, the prophet made an agreement with Quraish that he will hand the apostate over to them, meaning he will not kill them..

Zeeshan Mahmood This is a solid issue though. Shaykh Atabek did a lesson on it years ago, I don't remember any haters gunning for him.

@@tsgillespiejr There's a lecture of him on youtube where he affirms the death penalty and cites the fatwa of ibn abideen without objecting to it. So does this mean shaykh Atabek only became a true hanafi(tm) recently?

We need secular Islam and not Dawah Man's extremist Islam.

The point about that these ahadiith, even if for the sake of argument were assumed sahih, then they are still khabar ahaad which doesnt give certainty, and can it really be reasonable to kill people based upob uncertainty? That is such a powerful point of critique against the people who say otherwise.

Selam alaykum, I have heard that Imam Abu Hanifa did not support the death penalty (except in murder). Are you able to comment on this. If this is the case then it would answer a lot of questions about whether there is a death penalty in Islam for adultery, apostasy and homosexuality. May Allah guide the truth seekers.

Did the prophet not have the right to forego the hadd punishment if it served a greater purpose / maslahah? I am really asking here

So some scholars say that Ali burned them AFTER they were dead and some say he only intended to burn them.

What do you say about this narration/chain?
When Mu'adh reached the camp of Abu Musa, the latter (received him and) said: Please get yourself down; and he spread for him a mattress, while there was a man bound hand and foot as a prisoner. Mu'adh said: Who is this? Abu Musa said: He was a Jew. He embraced Islam. Then he reverted to his false religion and became a Jew. Mu'adh said: I won't sit until he is killed according to the decree of Allah and His Apostle (ﷺ) (in this case). Abu Musa said: Be seated. It will be done. He said: I won't sit unless he is killed in accordance with the decree of Allah and His Apostle (ﷺ). He repeated these words thrice. Then Abu Musa ordered him (to be killed) and he was kilied. Then the two talked of standing in prayer at night. One of them, i. e. Mu'adh, said: I sleep (for a part of the night) and stand in prayer (for a part) and I hope that I shall get the same reward for steeping as I shall get for standing (in prayer).
