I joined a new tech adjacent major halfway thru compsci and everyone else in my class was gaslit to believe we'd be the shining new hot talent and we'd be hired instantly! Our work is done by AI almost entirely. All my classes and methodology I practiced is done in 0.003 seconds by a computer. Heck my uni even built a new supercomputer on campus who would watch us pass the hallways. Who knew she was gonna take my job 😅 the computer I mean
Don't worry so much- you'll find your path and be ok. I've got 20 or so years in big tech corp world, and I'll give you the same advice I give my compsci senior year interns: "Get a government job. You'll have a better work environment and a pension in 20 years." It isn't AI that is going to take our jobs, it is outsourcing.
I actually do agree with Vivek overall regarding the lack of merit based culture in America. That said there is no shortage of American Programmers. The sole reason for increasing number of H1B is to bring in lower waged workers for high skilled jobs. H1B isn't the worst though. Lots of companies these days just completely outsource their work to developing countries where they are paid pennies on the dollar. In my profession, even small mom and pa tax shops are shipping their work to India and Philippines for them to complete for pennies but charging Americans the normal rate.
True. Offshoring has overtaken H1Bs as the preferred means of replacing American computer workers. Although, H1B would be the preference if Trump gets his way and massively expands the program. Computer workers overseas shelter under their local managers and feel less stress than one who is indentured and can be sent home on a whim, with a short notice that you must find another computer job which is really just adding extra insult to being sent home broke and probably in debt. The winners, those who do not get sent home, and who go home with money or else get citizenship, are celebrated for their perseverance, and we ignore how much wreckage there constantly is.
@@linkingwithnaz1295I’d like to agree with you too. Coming to this country something I didn’t realize is how mediocre / meritless this actual system is . I was taught that “work hard , put your head down , get A’s “ blah blah … It took until I finished HS to realize it’s not about what you know , or how good you are , just who you were friends with .
It's not just that these workers can be exploited even though this is a very powerful argument; it's because the reason why engineers with masters degrees or phDs in the USA cost so much money to hire is controlled by the cost of their schooling and licensing in comparison to what they can earn from a career. What you'll find is that unless they get accepted to a top tier university, the increase in salary is too little to justify the hundreds of thousands of dollars it costs to pursue education beyond a bachelor's degree. For foreign students, additional schooling increases the length of their visas and increases their value to employers that will pay for their visa to stay in the USA. Therefore by creating a visa program the US is essentially selling both applicants for advanced degrees to universities and employees with advanced degrees to employers at a reduced rate by making a legislative loophole for them to jump through. Reducing what an American can be paid versus what a foreigner can be paid impacts what Americans can do for careers. The bar is set higher for us than for foreigners because we don't have the demand for citizenship that a foreigner would; it's of no benefit to us.
"racism against poor people" Hmm, let's just embrace that axis and call it class consciousness of the rich. There's "low IQ" people who are rich, there are "low IQ" people who are poor. The difference is the rich ones don't have to show merit. This also applies to "high IQ" people, however it's not the culture that restricts their merit if they are poor, it's the trauma and lack of choices that come from poverty beating down on them. I hate these clowns. They are so blind. Silicon Valley? More like silicon swamp.
I am sorry but you shouldn't bring foreign workers , until you have PROVEN that you couldn't fill the positions with Americans. Make requirements to pay them the same wages and give them same labour protections as Americans, and this would stop. The foreign workers DO bring the wages down. First the the jobs went overseas, now the workers come from overseas? What are Americans supposed to do? We have the same problem in Canada. Wages go down , housing shortages, rents up, people are rightfully mad as they see no future for their kids.
Tech jobs oversea are about 1/3 to 1/4 of American jobs. It is cheaper for them to go offshore. They don't really need to bring H1B at higher wages. Your theory has holes.
Silicon Valley had a soft monopoly on labor. They agreed not to compete over existing workers to cap wages. As they lost talent they started drawing from foreign sources which gets us to today. The most done for retaining American employees was to give them a comfier prison to work in.
What is your source? I lived in the silicon valley and this not the case. I get recruited all the time and usually there is a 15% bump when you switched job.
@davidwong5197 early to mid 2000's from living and working there with a sibling who was a director at Yahoo who turned contractor. Headhunting outside the Valley couldn't be stopped, but at least 5 of the biggest ones had a private agreement while massive piles of money were still coming in post-bubble burst.
@@gooadam Well if you have the evidence then you can do a class action suit. I was a VP and we hired from our competitors. I guess we are too small to be in the deal.
Emma’s comment on H1B workers not getting social security is not accurate. The U.S. has Totalization Agreements with many countries so workers can pay into their pensions if they work in other countries. So maybe if Elon gets most of his workers from India (which doesn’t have an agreement) then Emma’s statement is more accurate. It would be nice to know where the majority of these H1B workers came from.
There is absolutely zero justification for importing workers. _Unless perhaps it relates specifically to authentic ethnic food preparation, which is a stretch itself._ We all know underemployed Americans. I know a woman with a Masters in Bio answering phones in customer service, and a truck driver with a BS, among others. In fact, roughly 40% of the people I work with directly are underemployed based on paper credentials alone. We have millions of young women and men who didn't go to college, couldn't go, or went and had to drop out because of financial burdens. Yet we're importing workers for tech? You can make an argument for picking grapes, cotton, or eggplants. However, it's absurd, and is an offshoot of shipping manufacturing overseas. Another cash grab. It all ends with more dollars in fewer pockets and in no way ensures consumer satisfaction, product value, nor extension of service life for any given product. Ask yourself why they made it so cell phones can no longer be opened to replace or upgrade the battery? Why would they do that? Less consumer options and less choice. However, unlike that phone - that battery has a shelf life. Every charge/discharge cycle raises it's internal resistance and diminishes it's capacity. So, after a few years you are FORCED to buy a new phone. Programmed caducity. They are building an economic hellscape right in front of our eyes. Unfortunately, our necessity to maintain a roof and full bellies staunches any activism that may come as a result of this corrupt system. A system that this incoming administration is going to exacerbate to the extreme.
maybe we need to give more positions of authority and power to people with high EQ. Intelligence is not the only factor in success. In fact, many intelligent people are not successful. I am proud to say my Caucasian cousins granddaughter. It’s not even out of college and working at NASA. my three nieces have a master and two doctorates in healthcare. We can do it here in this country. There is something to globalism and we are having a terrible amount of development going on in the Minneapolis area. People from other countries do not have the same desire to support this country as us natives do and that includes all of us natives

Sam and Emma have some tics, we all do, but this guy needs to either take some speech training or focus on written media.
I'm not mad about the comparison to indentured servitude, but it doesn't really hold up. H1B visa workers are free to leave if they want. Conditions in their home country might be bad enough that leaving is a bad option, but they do have that choice, indentured servants did not. Indentured servitude was in a literal sense, slavery. Not as bad as chattel slavery where the conditions were worse, and inescapable where most indentured servants had a fixed term and would be free, and chattel slaves had their children enslaved as well, but nonetheless, indentured servants were not free to leave, which made them slaves. But slavery is not the only form of exploitation, and the H1B visa program enables exploitation.
What does it matter if these businesses have some supposed control over these migrants when they are earning 10x what they would in their homeland?? Ptolemy called it India literally in the 200s. The Frau Mauro map calls it India. Niccolo de conti called it India. The Catalan Atlas called it India in 1375. Why lie? I guess just to make yourself feel better?
It’s an extremely dirty trick to try and lie and act like Columbus called these people “in God”. In fact it’s disgusting.

HI EVERYONE!
I'M VIVEK ,THE SNAKE.
Vivek is a typical insecure Indian trying to prove himself to white people all the time.
Just remember that Vivek rhymes with fake.
Yes he has a million dollar fake smile.
Classism.
The owning class has solidarity.
Only Vivek sees himself as a US citizen. The rest of the country sees him as an Indian immigrant
Just like I view Musk, for me, an unwanted immigrant.
I lost my construction job to an illegal immigrant. Literally. I still don't hate them. I'll never make "six figures" , so I will never care about the "problems" of one who does. My struggle is for existence, not "respect".
But H1b workers do pay into SS and Medicare, even if we didn’t apply for citizenship, if we work enough years and retire, we received these benefits. I finally decided to receive my citizenship after receiving these benefits.
But you take away from us jobs because they are looking for indentured servitude
Yeah. I like to say "immigrant labor helps pay for grandmas medicaid" and then when they say that they steal government insurance I ask them if they have ever tried to sign up for state insurance. Because it's impossible if you don't have the exact documents that ask for. Guess what they ask for XD
@@adnan2030 He is a citizen, If we take away all H1B and former H1B, we won't have a tech industry.
It's not a variation of racism. It's capitalism.
Omg I can't take this man and his 100 ahhhhh's a min
Funny enough, when they arent allowed to use H1B, like at SpaceX, they somehow find American talent! Weird!!!!! Very odd!!!!!
And they are some of the smartest people around it’s just that they also get paid properly and have workers rights
Classism is still the biggest divide
Also Vivek is saying that white people are less knowledgeable generally for those tech jobs for H1B visa recipients have a better education in their country compared to ours. Now with the attack of DEI they are also discriminating against the diverse segments of society that is not white to have employment, housing, loans access.
Yuo, Aneruxab=ns don;t like nerds taking the jobs
Classism not racism!
Vivek Ramaswamy calling anyone soft is hilarious. He’s a fancy lad.
Vivek rhymes with toothache. 🤠
Im supposed to graduate with an undergrad degree in compsci next year, it seemed like the market was already in bad enough shape after the layoffs last year and now they want to import a bajillion people for cheap labor. No clue what to do at this point, it feels like ive wasted my opportunity and ruined my life.
Jeet!
What do you agree with him about specifically?
@ That Americian society isn't merit based culture
@@linkingwithnaz1295I’d like to agree with you too. Coming to this country something I didn’t realize is how mediocre / meritless this actual system is .
I was taught that “work hard , put your head down , get A’s “ blah blah …
It took until I finished HS to realize it’s not about what you know , or how good you are , just who you were friends with .
Merit based is not common. Its who u know and what u are willing to give up
Looking good Sam. The dark blue is working!

I don’t understand why we need to confuse the issue with analogy when class segregation is simple enough?
Newsom vetoing that bill tells you all you need to know about what kind of president he'd make. It's time to stop that talk now, pre-emptively.
It’s class-ism, not racism

There are no loophole in the 4th amendment, all people within its Jurisdiction legal or not
I did not expect that guy to sound like that…
Is the left wing position that degeneration does not exist in society?
I'm only "racist" against the rich ppl like Vivek and Musk.
I love it when you have Jeet on. He is awesome.
John from San Antonio is an Extra Terrestrial Biological Entity.
Vivek telling maga to learn to code and Bannon calling for DEI in tech
"racism against poor people"
Hmm, let's just embrace that axis and call it class consciousness of the rich.
Extremely well said.
“First the jobs went overseas, now the workers come from overseas.” Hadnt heard it put that way before. Good job!
Undervaluing high skill workers in the most valuable sectors? Sounds like the gift of compromat galore and industrial espionage opportunities.
Capitalist doing capitalist things. Who would have thought?
Classicism over racism. The Musk Ramasmarmy credo.
There is absolutely zero justification for importing workers.
_Unless perhaps it relates specifically to authentic ethnic food preparation, which is a stretch itself._
We all know underemployed Americans.

I think the education system has been intentionally dumb down, and the youth have been bombarded with this Internet assault, and those have contributed to the lack of engineers from our own country.

He couldn't get halfway through his first sentence without saying ah about 3 or four times. He speaks so quickly but then stalls for about 20% of his speaking time.
Obviously these people would not be coming over unless it was a huge opportunity for them. Nobody is taking their passports away and preventing them from going back so why do you people always want to treat adult people like 9-year-olds that need handholding? Should we also mandate that you need to wear a bicycle helmet while you walk outside, because you might trip and fall?
This guy is hard to understand and doesn’t add any new information. Just a waste of time, listening to him.

Yeah its a simple math problem that explains the issue. Not "oh this and that and this percentage here" it's A = x and B = y and x > y.
@ona512 simple 😂 simple divination. Simply divine. 😂
In English we use the word "less" to denote an amount that cannot be counted. ie. "Less water". We use "fewer" to denote an amount that CAN be counted. ie. "Fewer rights". It sounds better, and it is correct. Just throwing that out there. 🤷🏻♂️
