Thanks again for the update, politics wise I can confirm that there is indeed ongoing proxy conflicts happening for almost 2 years now on the road to Metahara and also the nearby areas. I myself haven't been able to travel to visit relatives due to said conflict for fear of my own safety and security.

The vegetation inside the caldera appears to have died in recent sattelite imagery so whatever is going on down ther is emitting gases that are toxic. I think that a the gases being heavier than air and low wind speeds explain why the gases weren't noticed by people. If any lake does exist it appears to be completely hidden by gases

This white feature is not permanently visible in satellite imagery. I just have checked the area in the Zoom Earth App. The feature is visible in high resolution AM runs, but not or hardly visible in PM runs.
I'm not a geologist, so I dont know if any geological phenomenon shows a diurnal cycle.
But I'm a meteorologist, and there are meteorological phenomena like fog that show a diurnal cycle.
Additionally, one year ago, there had been no phenomenon similar to this.
Of course, fog may appear because the environment did change. For example an increased amount of moisture supply from the subsurface, caused by the geological changes that happen and happened over there in the last weeks, may cause the development of a significant amount of fog this January in the morning and forenoon and may disappear at or after noon due to sunshine.
I have no idea what is happening over there, I just share my thoughts.
Thank you for the interesting video. 👋🏻👴🏼

These cycles of visibility/invisibility might be linked to the wind, too. I remember some hills where we had strong winds every afternoon (maybe thermals), while the mornings were usually very calm.
So moderate fumes or water vapor emissions could just be wiped away by some air.

i am fairly sure that it is a huge cloud. a cloud formed by a steam venting episode that appears nearly continuous. there is in fact what appears to be even more spots of steam or gas venting all across the eastern half of the crater, including the large vent or two even in the middle section. it would be great to have ground based observations of these things, but unfortunately, That is dangerous, and live streams are probably not possible int he current "political and technological, climate" there.

Why are you trying to be "clever"?! Do you think that you are being more "learned" because you used the word "whom"? You can't even use right! I find this deliberate use of "whom" utterly pretentious - that is why you are using it, is it not?
If you are going to use "whom", which most people don't bother with anyway, then you should use it correctly. Saying "the Ethiopian government whom are actively performing analysis" doesn't show you to be educated - but ignorant! It is "the Ethiopian government WHO are actively performing analysis". Who! Who! Who! FFS!
For those of us who do know how "whom" is used, "the man whom you told me about", or (very formal) "the man about whom you told me", it is by far less irritating to hear what most people now normally say by dropping it "the man who you told me about" - that to hear ignorant people who are being pretentious in order to make us think they know more than we dso, when they insert the word "whom" because they just think it sounds nicer.
Just use your ordinary language, and stop being pretentious! 1 min 49 secs
