It’s just okay. It’s not bad. Just didn’t hit as hard as OP did. Some plots were all over the place like cave of two lovers happening in season 1 instead of 2 and having it as sibling love instead of romantic love between Aang and Katara. Azula slowly cracking is also happening too soon and her portrayal isn’t all that exciting
@softsage456 no…no this wasn’t better. Azul is cracking in the original made sense because there was actual build up that led to it. She thought that perfection was the only way. She felt on top of the world when she conquered Ba Sing Se while pinning her brother as the champion for “killing” the Avatar in case if he survived. All of that came tumbling down in books 3 the moment her to trusted friends betrayed her and suddenly she’s thrusted into a powerful position to be named the next fire lord while she hallucinates about her mother. Her fight with Zuko and Katara was the nail in the coffin.
@softsage456 I have a psychology background and children need to feel love from their parents in order to develop properly (build their self esteem, give them a sense of security, and contribute to their emotional and social well being). Azula wasn’t able to feel the love she wanted from her mother and felt as if she loved Zuko more than her. Azula thought her mother thought she was a monster and she rolled with that. Considering that and Ozai’s upbringing, all she knew was fear and intimidation and how that was the only way. That’s why when Mai confronted her with the words “I LOVE Zuko more than I FEAR you” she cracked mentally the same way when her mothers hallucinations said “I love you Azula.” It is because the concept of love is foreign to her and not what she experienced before. Simple answer… NO! They took out all of the heart and humor, and added/changed/combined WAYYYYY too many storylines!!! What got me honestly was adding the storyline of the Cave of Two Lovers (which was in Book Two) into episode 4!!
@@freeyaw29 I will say I just finished episode 6 and that has been by FAR the best one yet! The way they changed things in that one worked really really well!! Personally, I really enjoyed it. It's not as good as the original, that would have been near impossible, and I'm sure that was never the intent of this LA adaptation, so I'm honestly confused as to why people expected that. It's a good show and you can tell that everyone put a lot of effort and love into making it. I'm glad it wasn't a 1 on 1 adaptation that would be boring, like watching the show for the 100th time only in a new art form without learning anything new. I hope we'll get season 2, I am certain they can improve and I think it's a great start.
s1 was Alright, some of the choices puzzled me but a solid 7/10 for me, they nearly had it. I think by s2 IF it gets renewed they'll have it figured out
To me, the this isn’t the original and it’s an adaptation. And as an adaptation, I absolutely love it. I have very similar feelings that were mentioned in the video
I love it. If one expects the same stuff from the cartoon, then they can continue to watch the cartoon version lolz. The cgi is great, the phasing is good, the characters resemble the cartoon counterpart, momo and appa look adorable. I love it
There is quite a few changes, but for me those changed have been quite interesting and none of them make me scream "WTF where they thinking". I liked the reveal that Zuko's ship crew where the recruits he refused to sacrifice. Seeing Sozin in action was fun.
I was pleasantly surprised by this. I had trauma from the live action movie when I saw it in theaters as a kid, but this series actually has a lot of potential and I hope they continue with season 2.
All of it is really bland. The dialogue is poorly written and even more poorly acted. The lines are all delivered in a hurry 😂 it's honestly insane that they let past in the sate it is in
@@nza3923 - The original was also for kids and young adults, you dope. It had some of the best written and voiced dialogue and character development in any kind of media. Do you hear yourself? You should be ashamed of what you typed. No more Internet for you today, sir.

I feel if they can duplicate the same success they’ve done with OP/ATLA a live action original Dragon Ball series can be made!! Especially since unlike the rest of the series there’s no major transformations like SS.
After bingewatchinging the 8 episodes i as a avatar fan did actually like it a lot more then i thought. Even tho somethings they changed from the original cartoon it made it a bit more interesting cant wait to see what they do with the final episode with the akni kai between zuko and azula the endfight with ozai and the conquest of the airships
Aang’s super serious, Sokka rarely jokes, Katara has no personality, Zuko’s a sadboi instead of an edgelord, Iroh’s a pushover, and Zhao is goofy for some reason… Oh yeah and Hahn is a nice guy who finishes last 😭
I LOVE the original, I wasn’t expecting anything from the live action simply because the original was so good. You can’t win the lottery twice. However, I did enjoy the live action and I will be rewatching it. My favorite part is the character/relationship development between Hiro and Zuco. I also like that we see the inner workings of the fire nation royal family. Making Ozai even more Machiavellic than he was. He was scary in the original because we didn’t see him. Here he’s manipulating his own kids to get what he wants, making them compete for his approval, while all he wants is power. Making him even more evil. I feel we lose a bit of Aang’ character development, but not by much. Overall I enjoyed it and I really want to see where they take it next.
Its okey, not great but not bad. Feels rushed and in many ways I think it fails to live up to the original. However They have shown things that was not in the original cartoon and has expanded the relationships between characters like a bit of filling up the void. We never saw Ozai or Iroh interact on screen in the original but now we do. We also get an insight in Ozai in a way we di not before. It seems like he cares for Zuko in his own weird twisted way. So Its not a great show but it has its moments were it completes the original. and that makes it an okey to acceptable show.
The show is very well done and adapts the source material well. People complaining about it need to realize it was never going to be scene for scene, shot for shot, line for line. The changes made give us very interesting developments for the characters and a chance to see them in a different way.
@@lovelylife3012 but honestly that was nothing till I got to episode 5 with them throwing in SO much from Book 2 other episodes and even Legend of Korra…
To be fair it's good while it might be speeding at times it's still good. My online complain is that they showed Ozai's face too early but the climax was quite good and heart melting
In my opinion it isn’t amazing, but people are hating on it way too much. I think some expected it to be a one to one adaptation. Don’t get me wrong, there are some changes they made that I was not a fan of at all, while there were some things I was either indifferent with or actually liked. It’s still far superior to the 2010 film adaptation. I’d give the live action show a 7/10.
Agree to Domino Effect on the other books, as Brining Sai and Sao , they ruined the final war balloon moment as there were balloons in the final battle between Ozai and Aang, but we saw balloon in the last episode of new series, but how did they got it, balloon was not developed by Sai and Sooka and if by conqureing OMASHU they got the balloon, they north invasion and invasion on OMASHU happened at the same time
@@almas4663but it was never finished, and OMASHU wasn't captured by Fire Nation till North Invasion, Invasion on OMASHU and North happened at the same time, how didi they got the balloon from all the way from OMASHU
I’m a little bit shocked that they went away from Aang saving Sokka and Katara from a viral infection, using frozen frogs to having to save Sokka and Katara from the Spirit World. Because, when an meditated into the spirit world, he never brings people with him, but in the live action series, he somehow was able to bring soccer and Kotara into the spirit world, which is a complete 180 from the cartoon.
I like the environments that are really beautiful. I wasn't sure about the acting first, but then I watched it more from the viewpoint of the actors being "real hesitating flawed characters" in the Avatar world (instead of being the animated characters) and they started grow on me, as most of them (the actors) are unknown to me. What I reacted most too was the "modern US way of speaking" instead of using a more fantasy kind of language.
I loved it watched it with my Daughter and some friends. Not a 10/10 and No it doesn't replace the animation I never want that, the animation is GOATED. But this was fun I gave it a 7.5/10
Just watched the last 3 chapters. It's worth it. First chapter was great, second and third not so much, fourth did better, fifth was amazing (specially Zuko's background) and the last three are really great. The series is different and has pace issues, but it is good.
I did not like they changed Oma and Shu into a lesbian couple. I didn't like the snide comment during Koh the Facestealer scene. I don't like the rewrite on Zuko's burn origins. I don't like how fast Katara is progressing BEFORE finding her first master. She basically becomes the team tank after meeting Jet. Kyoshi island was cool seeing Her possess Aang and beat everyone down. But, I preferred seeing Suki kiss Sokka's cheek over seeing them kiss. Beyond those complaints, it's been okay. I look forward to seeing Bloodbending, Toph, and the dragondance (if they're even added...) The original is still better in every way, imo.
The best way I could describe the show it is Netflix's Fan fiction With that perspective, I ended up enjoying the show, I even laughed, In some scenes, I almost cried. It has potential to be better and I hope we get to see that
Fun fact that I learned by watching a bunch of reviews for the series (mostly because I want to hear opinions of what people thought): despite having to "cut down" content for 8 episodes vs 20, the Netflix ATLA season 1 is actually just about as long in total run time as the OG season 1 at 7 hours and 9 minutes vs 7 hours and 20 minutes for the OG (assuming 22 minute episodes)
Avatar State, Yip Yip! Also Once again captured by Sokka is hilarious (I have the show on in the background right now i love it doesn't measure up to Avatar The Last Airbender but really what does it's top tier but the show is great in it's own way)
I think it’s mid. Should’ve had Sokka’s sexism arc, maybe Jeong Jeong and definitely Pakku training Katara and Aang. Also there was some bad dialogue and writing in places
@@hibasudauncool1381 that what if would end in 10-15 mins(no part 2/3 needed) That would be boring considering we can have things like what if naruto ate a chakra fruit when he was a kid?
I loved it. Definitely the part where the fire nation attacked the Air nomads because I was so curious about how it went down and I'm glad they painted the picture for me. It was so enjoyable, it met MY expectations and I recommend it. If you don't like it move on or continue watching it or re-watch the cartoon. I wonder how far they'll take the live action like will it continue to TLOK.
I don’t understand how they ‘struggled’ to fit all of book 1 into a few episodes. When the whole runtime for book 1 is only 1hr 35 minutes. They could have 100% molded it together way better. 8 hours for book 1 is just horrid
What I didn't like is how they portrayed bumi they made him a cranky miserable man. If u thinking a of it the reason they were going to the north is so aang & kitara can learn water bending but kitara already knows water bending & the fire nation knew thats were aang was going so the northern water tribe was gonna be attacked.
Binged from 11am and finished at 7pm. Really enjoyed it. Started off slow like how book 1 is but then picked up really quick and rushed through book 1 imo.
Remember. Showrunners said Azula and Mai were cast that way to fight against sexism and "unrealistic expectations" for female bodies. So they chose fat actresses
16:38 nah man even when not comparing to the original the story telling doesn't makes sense, there were so many cuts and unanswered out of the blue moments but I'll say that the acting and stunts with visual effects was what we all imagined the live action to be if only Netflix writters didn't maintained their bad reputation of botching a story 🤦🏽♂️
I liked the first season.. Had parts that didn't fit quite rt, like secret tunnel. But overall I'd recommend it, but tell others to keep expectations in the middle...
[Spoilers, I guess] tl;dr - they will get a second season for sure - they did well enough and when it comes to anime/cartoon adaptations - it is the second best adaptation i've seen (One piece number 1...correct me if I'm wrong) ; Overall - I give it a 7/10 - they tried and they tried to give it a twist to justify it existing. The changes they made will appeal to a wider audience CGI was generally great, sets were great, bending looked great, animals looked good. Costumes and general world - the money was well spent. Dallas was a fantastic Zuko - by far, the best character adaptation and actor of the bunch. Different characterization, but he nailed it The overall plot was rushed and although I liked the additions a lot, they took out portions of the story that helped let the season breathe and really feel like the Gaang was travelling across the world. It felt like a speed run after you already beat the game once; no side quests. They changed the main trio WAY too much: - Aang is far too serious and isn't a kid. I swear he doesn't laugh at all during the show NOR DOES HE PLAY WITH MOMO. I wish they did ONE side quest just for fun and games, ride penguins...something. He didn't even sniff waterbending. How. Now Season 2 will speed run waterbending and earthbending...makes no sense when Book 2 has a significantly more complex plot. - Katara is not overbearingly motherly enough nor does she have her spice. I wished she yelled, cared, showed more emotion. They (pun intended) watered her down considerably. - Sokka's was fine; I think Sokka's adaptation is SUPER hard because he needs to be super animated. I could tell the actor got much stronger in the second half of the season (epi 5 was the best one), but I don't think the directors gave him freedom to get weird with his acting. He seemed too reserved - I hated how the Avatar's were characterized, they took the Dumbledore Goblet of Fire approach to yell at Aang & combined it with the "lion sea turtle; lecture aang" approach. The avatars did not come off as wise beings of peace; they came off as war mongers. - They rushed Iroh's story and they should have left Iroh exclusively as a patient uncle who tries to crack jokes and where are the DAMN platitudes!! I need zuko to be confused every time he leaves a conversation with Uncle. I think they missed the mark by not giving Iroh a more Confucius, wise feel. They made him seem to....casual? - It could also be me...but sometimes it felt like I was watching a stage play rather than a TV show...it could be most of the actors as novices, but it didn't seem like they understood their characters yet and how to play them. They were just reciting lines with some added emotion...compare this to Inaki's Luffy who is literally Luffy in real life or Taz's Sanji. They changed the character, but the spirit was there. I didn't get that with the trio for some reason
honestly i dropped it at the first episode, i tried to like it but yeah, and generally when i drop a series people usually drop it later, but idk maybe this is one of the cases where i'm wrong
It's not bad, it could be better but all things considered I thought it was pretty good, I like how they referenced other episodes like the great divide, pirates and the fortune teller but I think cutting Heru and his story was a mistake. If netflix renews this for a season 2 I hope they fix some of these things but overall I'd hive this 7.8 out of 10
I'm 2 episodes In and oh my goodness I'm glad it's getting better..the acting alone in The first episode was so bad. Delivery was Mid, like no one was trying but I think they did that on purpose to show growth ig. It's ight so far
I’m pretty much done with the episodes and I have to agree it does feel rushed but on the other hand they do put a lot of the major parts in it! Only thing I didn’t like is the fact that bumi wasn’t jacked. I wanted that so badly but solid 7.5/10

For me, that's too many.
s1 was Alright, some of the choices puzzled me but a solid 7/10 for me, they nearly had it. I think by s2 IF it gets renewed they'll have it figured out
Not to metion that they get to use the original soundtrack. The nostalgia does hit hard.
To me, the this isn’t the original and it’s an adaptation. And as an adaptation, I absolutely love it. I have very similar feelings that were mentioned in the video
agreed.
Zuko is the best character so far. The acting is spot on and he's hilarious😂😂bro he looking so Eager for the Avatar
Absolutely loved Dallas Liu as Zuko!
HONESTLY the ONLY thing I like about it is Kyoshi Island and all of those changes there…and Azula’s portrayal (kinda) and Sokka! The rest is BLAND!!
It's still was a great show...
All of it is really bland. The dialogue is poorly written and even more poorly acted. The lines are all delivered in a hurry 😂 it's honestly insane that they let past in the sate it is in
@@sheldonjplanktonn it's for kids and young adults, grow up, they don't have to shit to satisfy you adults
@@nza3923 - The original was also for kids and young adults, you dope. It had some of the best written and voiced dialogue and character development in any kind of media. Do you hear yourself? You should be ashamed of what you typed. No more Internet for you today, sir.
@@sheldonjplanktonn HONESTLY! Episode 5 was a literal train wreck!!! But I will say I just finished Zuko’s banishment and scarring episode (#6) and that has by FAR been the best one yet! That’s the correct way to adapt the show
I feel if they can duplicate the same success they’ve done with OP/ATLA a live action original Dragon Ball series can be made!! Especially since unlike the rest of the series there’s no major transformations like SS.
@softsage456 why because of how the left would react to how he treats women lol
After bingewatchinging the 8 episodes i as a avatar fan did actually like it a lot more then i thought. Even tho somethings they changed from the original cartoon it made it a bit more interesting cant wait to see what they do with the final episode with the akni kai between zuko and azula the endfight with ozai and the conquest of the airships
It is like a parallel to the original it’s different but good
I hope you’ll make more avatar videos alongside Beyblade and Yu-Gi-Oh!
11:20 Mai's name is pronounced as May, the month.
When kyoshi appeared I swear I was more geeked than a kid with candy😭
The Netflix Avatar is good. I watch the whole first season and waiting for the next one. Can we just all agree the Movie never exists.
10 out of 10 💧🪨🔥🌪️
Also because of your Avatar contact before Animes, I subscribe you channel till Now ❤ Ethan
Its fine. Rough start with heart. Can certainly get better with experience working on this series. Well see what happens
This was a fair review. Articulated my thoughts pretty much spot on.
Aang’s super serious, Sokka rarely jokes, Katara has no personality, Zuko’s a sadboi instead of an edgelord, Iroh’s a pushover, and Zhao is goofy for some reason…
Oh yeah and Hahn is a nice guy who finishes last 😭
I LOVE the original, I wasn’t expecting anything from the live action simply because the original was so good.
The Percy Jackson show that's in live action is faithful to the source only problem is that it can't do at times show not tell
It's still a shame that Aang never learned waterbending in book 1
The show is very well done and adapts the source material well. People complaining about it need to realize it was never going to be scene for scene, shot for shot, line for line. The changes made give us very interesting developments for the characters and a chance to see them in a different way.
15:05 THANK YOU!!!!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙏🏼
I think its because of the real ages of the two actors at the time.
@@lovelylife3012 well they could’ve hired actors closer in age…I see the base of ‘your’ (in place of the lack of voice from the creators) argument
If everyone is saying it is okay, that is a big problem
I THINK IT GOOD AND UNDERRATED it not a exact replica of the original that what people need to understand
While Netflix adaptation has some flaws, the series is still way better than the epic fail movie that was done several years ago.
I was abt to comment to do the live action avatar😄, just watching right now honestly its good in my opinion.
the exposition dump is horrible. how many times do characters just look straight into camera and monologue
Agree to Domino Effect on the other books, as Brining Sai and Sao , they ruined the final war balloon moment as there were balloons in the final battle between Ozai and Aang, but we saw balloon in the last episode of new series, but how did they got it, balloon was not developed by Sai and Sooka and if by conqureing OMASHU they got the balloon, they north invasion and invasion on OMASHU happened at the same time
The Balloon WAS designed by Sai and Sokka in the adaptation. Sokka literally says "I helped design it"
@@almas4663but it was never finished, and OMASHU wasn't captured by Fire Nation till North Invasion, Invasion on OMASHU and North happened at the same time, how didi they got the balloon from all the way from OMASHU
But this was fun I gave it a 7.5/10
"The characters and their actors are spot on" *Peeps at Mai* : Mmm okay
Just watched the last 3 chapters. It's worth it. First chapter was great, second and third not so much, fourth did better, fifth was amazing (specially Zuko's background) and the last three are really great. The series is different and has pace issues, but it is good.
All I know that it billion times better than The Last Airbender 2010 by M. Night Shyamalan
Fax bro
That isn't saying much it's like saying dying in a volcano is better than burning to death
Is this better than Power Rangers? People are talking about that
Thumbail: is it bad?
Title: is it good?
_(confused screaming)_
It's perfect because people are saying this thing is 10/10 when in truth it's 6.5/10 a lot of issues
Content: Am I confused?
I did not like they changed Oma and Shu into a lesbian couple.
I didn't like the snide comment during Koh the Facestealer scene.
I don't like the rewrite on Zuko's burn origins.
I don't like how fast Katara is progressing BEFORE finding her first master. She basically becomes the team tank after meeting Jet.
Kyoshi island was cool seeing Her possess Aang and beat everyone down. But, I preferred seeing Suki kiss Sokka's cheek over seeing them kiss.
Beyond those complaints, it's been okay. I look forward to seeing Bloodbending, Toph, and the dragondance (if they're even added...)
The original is still better in every way, imo.
The best way I could describe the show it is Netflix's Fan fiction
With that perspective, I ended up enjoying the show, I even laughed, In some scenes, I almost cried.
Zhao vs Zuko was much needed
Avatar State, Yip Yip!
Also
Once again captured by Sokka is hilarious
(I have the show on in the background right now i love it doesn't measure up to Avatar The Last Airbender but really what does it's top tier but the show is great in it's own way)
I think it’s mid. Should’ve had Sokka’s sexism arc, maybe Jeong Jeong and definitely Pakku training Katara and Aang.
Also there was some bad dialogue and writing in places
Please send part 2 and part 3 for "What if Itachi could be happy?"
I've watched three episodes. It kicks ass! My departed sister (who loved the animated version) would love what I've seen so far.
No she wouldnt she is ROlling in her grave. She is also about to crawl out of the well too for using her for your propaganda.
Bro you are spot on !
What if Naruto and other Jinchuurikis were kids and befriended their own tailed beast, they live in special village for only for Jinchuurikis?
I loved the live action series and can’t wait first book 2 and 3
Please do what if Naruto was in avatar the last air bender
U just want naruto to destroy everyone?
All it takes is 1 rasengan to kill the firelord, no avatar needed
I would love listen to that story
@@hibasudauncool1381 that what if would end in 10-15 mins(no part 2/3 needed)
That would be boring considering we can have things like what if naruto ate a chakra fruit when he was a kid?
@@nilaaplayzyt I guess that true
😂
Same here, I absolutely loved it!
My biggest grip was in the first episode when Aang was "flying"
i watched it the show irl it was fire you all should watch it
Ember Island play is better than Avatar, the last airbender on Netflix
HE'S BACK BOYS ADRIAN IS BACK
The Koizilla scene was a little bit ridiculous though
I have now seen the first 5 episodes and do like it alot, altho some of the changes anoy me.
Please send part 3 or part 4 for"What if Sakura was Naruto's first friend?"
I think this show and Percy Jackson needs an improvements in season 2
Binged from 11am and finished at 7pm. Really enjoyed it. Started off slow like how book 1 is but then picked up really quick and rushed through book 1 imo.
main thing i liked about the original was the humor. Aang without humor is just boring and mature.
Because of the release of avatar the last airbender in live action you should do what if Aang was in Naruto
ayo they didn't even addressed how fire nation got the airship design properly too
NGL, the adaptation was a 80/20 for me. Azula and Mai casting just isn't for most. They're too fat!
Remember. Showrunners said Azula and Mai were cast that way to fight against sexism and "unrealistic expectations" for female bodies. So they chose fat actresses
@@gwen5715 what a stupid idea
@TheJ0kerr fr tho
what are you on about? azula casting dont even look fat let alone chubby
@@mr.bakonator3900
Yo Suki was tryna get crushed 😭
16:38 nah man
even when not comparing to the original the story telling doesn't makes sense, there were so many cuts and unanswered out of the blue moments
but I'll say that the acting and stunts with visual effects was what we all imagined the live action to be
if only Netflix writters didn't maintained their bad reputation of botching a story 🤦🏽♂️
The changes they made will appeal to a wider audience
CGI was generally great, sets were great, bending looked great, animals looked good. Costumes and general world - the money was well spent.
Dallas was a fantastic Zuko - by far, the best character adaptation and actor of the bunch. Different characterization, but he nailed it
The overall plot was rushed and although I liked the additions a lot, they took out portions of the story that helped let the season breathe and really feel like the Gaang was travelling across the world. It felt like a speed run after you already beat the game once; no side quests.
They changed the main trio WAY too much:
- Aang is far too serious and isn't a kid.
He seemed too reserved
- I hated how the Avatar's were characterized, they took the Dumbledore Goblet of Fire approach to yell at Aang & combined it with the "lion sea turtle; lecture aang" approach.
Those who say it is good, have they watched the actual animation?
It's not bad, it could be better but all things considered I thought it was pretty good, I like how they referenced other episodes like the great divide, pirates and the fortune teller but I think cutting Heru and his story was a mistake. If netflix renews this for a season 2 I hope they fix some of these things but overall I'd hive this 7.8 out of 10
At least the fire benders don’t need a camp fire to fire bend
I'm 2 episodes In and oh my goodness I'm glad it's getting better..the acting alone in The first episode was so bad. Delivery was Mid, like no one was trying but I think they did that on purpose to show growth ig. It's ight so far
What if Sasuke and Neji were brothers?
I’m pretty much done with the episodes and I have to agree it does feel rushed but on the other hand they do put a lot of the major parts in it! Only thing I didn’t like is the fact that bumi wasn’t jacked. I wanted that so badly but solid 7.5/10
