I was caught and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle instead of grand theft because the keys were left in the ignition. If I had to obtain the keys from the home or his person then the charges would have been higher. They were going to charge the neighbor with something called aiding or contributing because the keys were left in the car. In the end, the charges were dropped for us both.
During the news conference, the sheriff said the helicopter and the deputies were on another call near the area when the helicopter spotted the 3 walking down the street at 3am. The helicopter then asked for any available units.
