Such a great video, the colour change all from one rock @7:20 is fascinating. Thank you so much for showing us the local talent, he is awesome. Thanks again 😊
How long do you have to leave the stone in the cat litter to remove the oil after you cut it ? I have been soaking my slabs in acetone for a week to remove the oil but if cat litter works that seems a much better and cheaper option.
Chemists have a saying. "Acetone rips everything" Meaning it is an incredibly powerful, nearly universal solvent. Better off sponging the rock repeatedly with acetone then a dry wipe after each sponging rather than wasting a bunch of it and your time. Acetone will carry the oil deep into the stone if let to stew too long. That may or may not be a bad thing, depending on the stone. This may sound crazy but cake wet flour around it and put it in a warm, not hot oven for an hour or two, repeat as needed. Best of luck TheRedhawke!
ive found 20-30 minutes with flipping it at 10-15 seams to work for it, i flip it to get the fine dust on there which seams to pull more of the oil out of the rocks that are porous enough to absorb it. agates and what not only sit in for a few minutes, but i usually have a few stones in the box that are covered and i wont get to until the bins full xD i do cut a lot of slabs though
I usually follow most of these steps anyway but what was the marking the crosshatch with the pen for exactly? I couldn't quite make it out. Also which grades did you end up using over the whole process?
the crosshatching of the pen shows where you need to sand to get it smooth at each grit. If you still see marks then you need to continue sanding that grit until no marks are left. I ending up with 13,000 grit. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Always wet. If the stone needs strong grindibg to get a flatter surface i use a 30 grit melt disc. Than everything is a plastic composite diamond grit to 13,000 or 15,000. If you want to take it further you can use a 50,000 grit diamond polish. But i have never gone that far.
Yes i been to the Philippines several times. Was suppose to go back last February, but covid got in the way. Plan to retire there someday. Keep on Rocking.
Hi Daniel.I'm sixty seven and I'm started to get interest In now I like rocks so much I collect them but I can not be elbow to polish I wonder if you be elbow to selme some but you have to make to me I'm in California I'll will always admit it them thank you .
U.S. GENERAL Folding Clamping Workbench With Movable Pegs I bought at Harbor Freight. the wood last a short time. I bought real wood and drilled the holes. coated it works great. Thank you for watching. Keep on Rocking.
With oil saws your best bet is to pre soak the block in water for at least a day . This prevents oil from penetrating into the rock.. Porous jasper can absorb a fair amount of oil if not soaked for a day or more. If your slabs are oily, place them on news print and place in direct sunlight. Heat from the sun liquifies the oil. The newsprint absorbs it and if your using mineral oil , it will evaporate the remaining oil.. The technique being shown will result in silicosis. Your body can not break down silicates. When using higher grit sizes , at 14000 you start producing particles smaller than 1/2 micron , this will cause silicosis and is not curable , smokers are at triple the risk. Be safe this hobby can kill you.
Nice video. Thank you to the owner and the teacher. The noise of machinery made it a little hard to hear. Now, me.student you should an expert sometime soon. Thanks for sharing! God Bless.
I can appreciate the effort behind this video but it is really needing to be cut down in length, loads of this is unnecessary footage, and puts little if any "secret" into the polishing process. Again, the effort is there, the enthusiasm for the hobby, and the obvious love for the stones too but this video could or should have been shorter and titled differently. I was hoping for some step by step with a novel approach. This was not that unfortunately.
There are many levels of Rock lovers watching. Thank you for watching and commenting. For some viewers this can be very informative and a way to polish rocks to get the scratches out as you move up the grits.
Since I bought that several years ago, I have found cheaper ones but you need to make sure you use the proper pad and grinders that go with the polisher you purchase. I used the 30 grit grinder Steal pad from MK on another polisher but it does not have a lock button on the top so I could not get the pad off. You would have to see it maybe to understand why, it uses a wrench and the MK Pad comes to far down to get the wrench in. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Check out my channel I have other videos of polishing petrified wood and other stones. They show the detail of how to mark and polish. You might be able to see better on those videos.
Looks like a lot of fun, Great video 📸!!
Thank you for watching. It is fun and awesome to see the colors that show through as you polish the stones.
Very informative. Learned a lot.
Glad to hear it!

I only let sit in the cat litter a few minutes. Move it around for about a minute then put in tub of water with soap for about 5 minutes

How many rpm’s on the grinder?
It is variatable speed you can adjust fast or slow.
what was the very first disc you used, was this wet or dry

How is the water drip hooked up with the angle grinder/ polisher?
Just a water hose from the garden.

How much does the machine cost though? I'm looking for affordable ways to polish my rough crystals
You can purchase here is the link: amzn.to/2ZSVhW1

You went into the sunlight to see the color yourself, then came into the shade to show us. I could hardly see anything on my phone.
One of the early videos still learning sorry
400.00 american dollars is not what i call "low cost". You might want to rethink that statement on the wet polisher kit.

Your picture was as really too dark to see what you were doing.

Couldn’t see anything, Too dark. Couldn’t hear anything too much noise from the grinder and some kind of a blower that was running
Thank you for watching
I can't see . Too far away . Silhouetted by background light. Stoped watching
One man show sorry
i heard the motors real well. Duh !
Thank you for watching. Keep on Rocking. Have a Great Day.
I sure wish they'd UNPLUG the Grinder before changing disks. That there is just a tool-no-no !
Let he who is without guilt pass the first stone.
Stop saying "go ahead and..."
how bout you fuck off and not stop
