    I've been pruning my peach trees for years and have watched plenty of pruning videos (they're kinda therapeutic) but this one is the most informative. I'll have to cut some 2x2s and get some finish nails lol. Better than wires.

    Thank you so much Jody, your video is the only one that I could watch through. You explained this so well, loved the live example printing. I never knew about the Center leaders. I am a first time peach tree buyer, got a belle if Georgia from Lowes this spring on a while and your video is a great educational resource! I’m hoping I can prune my standard tree enough to keep in container

    so 3 years after planting - you can allow peaches to grow...seems like such a long time considering the tree was in a nursery for 5 to 7 years.

    Every winter for the past 3 years I've used this video to help me prune for the upcoming season. My two trees gave us several peaches last summer and I'm expecting even better this summer as they've gotten quite large and mature at this point. THANK YOU!! One question. How wide is too wide? Do I continue to allow them to grow in diameter?

    Your pruning method is all well and good but deer start my pruning for me so I need to start my scaffolds further up. I take out any dead branches and try to keep the center open. After harvest, I bring the height of the dwarf tree down to about 7 feet. My trees tend to produce fruit every other year and I've never been able to change that. Even when I had two trees, I could not change it and I got more fruit than I could use and gave more away. My solution was to plant a Fingerlakes dwarf (S.H.) Super Hardy along with my Reliance dwarf. The Reliance bore fruit in early August and the Fingerlakes bore in early September. If they bore the same year, at least the harvest was spread out. If they bore alternate years, that was ok too.

  • @LuaiGhazali

    Thanks, informative and simple instructions. Is it possible to allow fruit to grow from the second year in the ground? as others mentioned before it has spent 2-3 years in the nursery

    • @mikebetts2046
      @mikebetts2046 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luai Ghazali, that might depend in part on how it was transplanted. If pulled up from nursery as a bare-root tree, I would think it needs more time to re-establish the roots. If container-grown, and the entire root-ball was placed in new location, then just guessing that it would re-establish a bit quicker. But don't quote me on that ;)

    I have a peach tree that isn’t doing very good, it’s maybe a year old.
    When I bought it, the people who I got it from told me that they cross pollinate and that they need to be close together, well doing research on my own I realized everything they told me was wrong.
    So I replanted it 40 feet away from the other one and to try to save it I put super start and fish emulsion in the hole, Then planted it.
    Now I don’t know if I’m supposed to prune every branch so the tree can focus on rooting or do I just leave it alone?

      the reason behind looking like a bowl is to let sun shine to center of tree i live about 15 miles from largest peach orchard on east coast 80 acres that the way they do it

    An interesting point was made in this video relating to preventing trees from fruiting in the first two years. Can anyone provide a rationale this?

    • @ronkchristiansen
      @ronkchristiansen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This allows for the energy of the tree to go into the branches rather than the fruit as I understand it. Plus little trees won't support much fruit anyways and branches will be apt to break under the weight.

    planting a seed will not be the same as a graft or rooting a cutting the DNA is not in the seeds its in the limbs of the peach tree so if you root a cutting of a peach it will be identacle??? to mother tree
