We all have things that work well on our body chemistry that we like. Just because it works for Justin doesn't necessarily mean it works for us in his opinions are his alone and he expresses that all the time which is why I love his videos.
He is giving his expression and How he smell after putting them on. His skin is different than you and some people smell worse even after putting most attractive fragrances so don’t listen to him to make you decision just take it as a reference
Rarely do I agree with every point you make in a video, but this is one of those rare occassions where I just sat through the video while nodding my head in approval.
I agree.. I just looove Side Effect... think I always will... Layton is just a little too simplistic for its price point... Layton Exclusif is a better, more complex version
Naxos does this for a lot of people. It doesn't move me much. To my nose, there's a fragrance that smells similar that I enjoy much more & I'm referring to Mugler's pure Havane.
It's a very good fragrance, but it is quite simple on the surface but it has very well blended layers that may be hard to detect to some, oh of course it's very expensive so that too.
I really like your honesty and authenticity. Fragrances like Vibrato are hyped to death by certain influencers, the same with Chanel eau extreme. A man that stands his ground is important in this game.
i bought Chanel eau extreme because 99% of fragrance reviewers say it's amazing. Big mistake i hated it! Will never understand the hype it gets and i'm certainly more careful in what i buy now.
IDK about reformulations, but I have a 2023 bottle of Naxos and I love it. Citrus + Lavender balances the sweet honey and light tobacco very well. I totally get what you mean about it smelling almost like a cleaning product, especially in that initial 10 minute blast, though it does calm down. I love it because it's hyper-versatile and can be worn in the summer, in the office, and in the wintertime. I've also gotten a ton of compliments, especially from women, on this one. It's not the most complex or interesting fragrance, but it's a great tool in the toolkit imo.
@@kjvkiwi Over 8 hours. I guarantee you're going nose-blind. The citruses start to fade around the 3-6 hour mark but the rest of the fragrance is most definitely still there.
I personally love Vibrato and it has been great for me in just about every way. I feel great wearing it and it does garner a lot of compliments. But I’d agree on Naxos. I’ve tried it several times and it just doesn’t excite me. I always feel like I’m weird for not liking it since it gets hyped… but I guess I’m not alone
“I gotta love it in those in-between moments”. Couldn’t agree more! I just found your channel yesterday after getting into fragrances and watching other channels the last few months - you know who they are, and I agree “we can do better” to quote you again. Thanks for your refreshing take on some very hyped fragrances, some of which I have tried decants of, and have not been blown away either. Looking forward to watching your next video on fragrances that “do” live up to the hype.
It’s precisely for honest opinions such as these that I prioritize Justin over other fragrance reviewers. It also helps that I agree with these takes, no longer wondering if I was alone.
Something that I always adore about you and your work is transparency and accountability for what you do and share with clear understanding and no judgment to those who choose different… plus always always sense of humour and sarcasm… keep doing your thing your own way Justin …
im convinced me and you have the same nose.. everything you described in naxos and side effect is exactly how i felt when smelling them! Keep up the great content Justin👍
Side effect for me is special. It literally made my knees buckle & my stomach drop...i think i was in heaven for a second. No other fragrance has EVER made me feel that way. I will admit that after that initial impression, ive always felt let down after every wearing.
Interesting avenue you traveled here. I like it, most people would shy away from being respectfully critical about hyped fragrances yet you pulled it off. I think price would be part of my equation too. I don’t mind your Chanel pick as much as Naxos for standing out as unnecessarily hyped…
I appreciate the intel on Intense Cedrat Boise, ive been on the fence since it came out and money is tight so more than just you have said the OG is still better and I am all about saving money.
Great video and kudos for speaking your mind about how you really feel. As it happens I also was disappointed with Vibrato and Naxos and do not see what they are seemingly seeing in them.
Holy smokes, you're not kidding about how discontinuations affect the hype. Anyone who has been following the TH-cam fragrance reviews for a while has to notice how fragrance releases which get a "meh" at first, suddenly aquire a hyped status once the word gets out that they're being discontinued.
Love the video, its refreshing to see you go against the grain for once, even though the way you delivered it was so smooth. An unrelated side note, you should definitely review a few fragrances from the brand Diptyque. They're one of my favorite niche brands and would love hear your thought on them.
So there is one thing I can say about the original cedrat boise and that is that the juice is very sensitive to light. Ive had a bottle for approximately twelve months and for the better part of six month time it has been standing out in the open in very mild non-direct sunlight. The juice has gotten paler and the performance weaker. I dont notice much of a change in the scent itself though. Anyways, just a reminder that these recommendations to store you purchases in a cool and dark place are not just for shits-n-giggles.
Cedrat Boise Intense is definitely thicker than the original in my experience. On my skin, it stuck with me longer. It gets lots of compliments, and most importantly I like the scent in my personal rotation. However, I agree with you in that you absolutely don't need both the Cedrat Boise OG & the Intense. Whatever one you have will likely do a similar job for most people.
And Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme is nice but basic. And for those who want a little performance from a high cost fragrance - it doesn't last. So I agree with you there. I had it & took it back to Ulta lol.
I've experienced all of these fragrances through ownership or through decanting and I think you're fairly spot on lool to me anyway...i own or have owned 4 of the 5 here and completely agree...1 thing I have experienced with Naxos is I don't know why but I feel Naxos shines in the high heat lool i don't know why that is but everytime I've worn Naxos in the high heat it almost feels lighter and airier 😅 even when I over spray...that might just be me but on a normal low temp day it comes across a bit cloying and I don't particularly enjoy it
I agree with three of these choices. One of the two I don't agree with is Naxos, which is my favorite fragrance. The other is Side Effect. While I love Eye of Seven Hills too, Side Effect is awesome.
oh man, Naxos is incredible. that honey note is exquisite. easily the best honey note I've ever experienced in a fragrance (although Jubilation XXV is also very good). it lives at the intersection of honeysuckle, honey comb, & raw honey. the tobacco leaf note is also done to perfection. you do have to let it "macerate" (as it's used in the fragrance community) for longer post-reform.
I like the simplicity of Side Effect. Makes it an easy wear on formal parties when I want to feel "approachable" but still stand out. I'd never buy a full bottle but I have a decant. I think it might be a little more exciting on a woman than on a man.
I pretty much agree. Essentially for myself a fragrance never lives up to the hype. Either the fragrance is overhyped and I’m unenthused or a fragrance received quite of bit of hate and I really end up enjoying it.
I got a decant of side effect a while back and I remember being really excited to smell it but as soon as I sprayed it I wanted to scrub it off. That stuff is potent and inescapable but not in a good way. I slept on the couch that night because my room was a hazmat zone for hours and it just would not go away.
When i was first getting into more niche scents, Naxos was my jam. I still enjoy it but the overwhelming sweetness turned it into a hard pass. Sweet to the point of nausea.
Absolutely spot on with Side Effect. I own a bottle, very excited to get it but I've only worn it once! I'm still waiting for the "wow" factor. I'm 2, 3 sprays away from putting up for sale. Some heavy hitters on this list but great video nonetheless.
The absolute best unhyped fragrance I’ve ever tried is Versace Atelier Santal Boise. It’s smells exactly what i expected from Initio Side Effect. I get a sexy middle eastern wood with vanilla. It’s one of the few perfect 10s in my book

@@seanp7871 I don’t really follow, man. I’m saying that they both have top flight honey notes (1 & 2 so far for me)-not that they’re the same type of fragrance, or even the same type of honey note. not sure why, but it seems like I struck a nerve. hope things calm down for you
Loved the video. I completely agree about ICB. It is nice but I dont' like it as well as the originial. I almost always like the freshest from all the lines.
I agree with your comments about Side Effects. I waited for ages to get it. And I was disappointed when it arrived. I was hoping for that wow factor. Didn’t happen.
I’m actually wanted to smell this due to hype. I refuse to blind buy this one even tho 97% of my collection is blind bought. I guess I’m taking a stand on side effect I need to sample it
I tried side effect expecting to be blown away and I liked it, but not enough for the price. I loved narcotic delight though, it did for me what side effect didn't.
YSL Y EDP is one for me. I do really like it though, and thankfully I got it at a price that I was and still am really, really happy with, which takes the sting out of overhypedness IMO.
Wow that hurts, Naxos is my number two favorite fragrance. I think that when you enter heaven, it will definitely smell like Naxos. What a perfect gem :)
Someone just said what I think about Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme! It's good but it's not special, I still believe the original Allure is the best in the line, Eau Extreme is just more beast mode.
@@stayfreshproductions yes it is! I've tried to love my bottles of the Sport line and I just haven't been able to do so, I really like Edition Blanche too!
i agree with what you said about Allure eau extreme being alright, but not that mind blowingly good as people say it is. I have the sport edt and I’d probably choose edition blanche over eau extreme. I also would go for Mancera cedrat boise original edp since that is already well done and long lasting.. no need to make it more, well, intense. ☺️
Had a little sample of side effect it was so strong even with a few little sprites from that little 2ml.. bought a full bottle 2023 batch and it is not nearly as strong. Still smells amazing but 5 full sprays is the least ill wear to get some projection
Naxos is second on my to buy list. I loved my sample so much. It smells delicious. What i want most at the moment though is Zaharoff signature Rosè. No samples available in South Africa. Blind buy roulette is my favourite game.
Ohh, hot takes, I like it. Haha, to be honest, there's 2 in there I really like (Cedrat and AHS) but Side Effect to me was always way too cloying and unwearable and while I "get" Naxos, I was never able to get into it myself. It's just not my favorite type of tobacco fragrance (same for Side Effect).
I do understand what you are saying about Side Effect.. it has a simplicity to it, and it's quite linear.... but everytime I go back to it, I just love the scent profile.. the notes just speak to me about what I love in perfumery... and I can only abandon it when I find something that smells close enough that I can appreciate more... if this makes sense
I agree with your comments on side effects. Stores like Nordstrom try to sell that to my wife all the time. At one point we liked additive vibrations on her but after getting Queen of silk and blonde amber it made vibrations feel basic. Are there any Clive Christians you feel are basic? Trying to dabble in that space
I think vibrato is an answer to tygar’s very high price tag. I personally have had zero luck finding tygar at a discount under 350.. I personally think vibrato is a better performer and more refined, and it’s easily found now under 200. I get what you mean about the compliment factor, and it could be fair to say this is rather simple. But you and I agree that DH2020 is the bomb for being such a simple smell, and the tygar DNA is one of my favorites out of any fresh profile I have smelled. Sometimes simplistic refinement done with quality materials at the highest level of perfumery is what even enthusiast noses will appreciate the most. This does lack creativity but it almost cuts the price of tygar in half, all while having much better quality than the affordable (albeit fantastic) clones like Turathi blue.
Havent tried vibrato But I can comment on the rest. I also prefer regular cedrat because of the sweeter fruitloop vibe but find both versions just good, not great . I kinda hate side effect, the saffron is too intense, and it's sickly. Cant knock the performance, unfortunately. None of the allure line except Edition Blanche move me, the vetiver and creamy sandalwood give me a barbershop vibe in that one. I find the calone and aldehydes a bit much in the other versions. Naxos is just a worse version of Reyane Insurrection wild II (which predates it) because of the sickly sweet note it has in it. I can't knock the performance of it as it's been stuck in my headphone pads for a whole month, and then when I wear the headphone the scent transfers back to my skin and clashes with what I'm wearing. Honestly I agree with the entire video for the most part.
Say it louder for the ppl who are nose blind to hype 🗣️ Thank you for this video and for the spark of discussion. I can almost guarantee that if any of these don’t get ppl compliments or get ppl noticed, they wouldn’t be as hyped. Lots of the hype stuff is either cloying or unoriginal too. And ppl have the fear of not fitting in or missing out lol Once you build your palate, there are much better offerings and sometimes for a better price too. Another thing while on the subject of being influenced by others: I find it sad or funny that if someone says a negative comment about a fragrance they like (that smells like tires, etc. or whatever, or if it’s negative to them) they stop liking it. To be influenced like that and ignore your tastes because someone else doesn’t like it is a sad way to live imo
Great video! I mostly share your opinion but intense cedrat boise is one of my go to for spring and summer night. Sometimes it smells odd but sometimes it is great. Did you have any experience with the house of Superz Budapest? I did not remember that you mentioned them in any of your videos 😮
Also we have to remember Justin not everyone smells the same thing as we do or you do the fragrances you mention it for many people their nose find something magical you are not able to smell certain music in the notes certain aromas some are more prone to smells than others it's directly correlated whit the body composition certain molecules attracted to the ones your body finds appropriate in need accepted prioritize it and you smells those more because you body its communicating it needs those certain molecules more than others That's the reason we like some scents more than others in certain same area or country compared to other area's and the foods and nutrients available and in need
the only fragrance I disagree with on this list is side effect. that's my favorite Initio and a frequent reach for me in the cooler weather. I also find Naxos to be very "syrupy" and heavy on my skin so I'm glad to know it's not just me that feels that way abut that fragrance lol
Vibrato isn't mindblowing but I'm happy I got a tester for under $160. Chanel AHS was underwhelming for me, smelled great but didn't last on me. Intense Cedrat Boise is one of my signatures I love the depth it has. Naxos I can agree, its a room filler. Idk how anyone could wear it in the summer. Fall/Winter for me.
That's how I felt about haltane (what you stated about vibrato). I thought it was going to be like initio OFG and really it was like spraying on wood varnish overtop of OFG to cover up the fragrance.
All 5 smell nice but yes i agree that most if not all were hyped as compliment magnets thats why those are loved. But if i may just add that of the 5, Side Effect is even more designer smelling than CAHSEE and it has what seems to be amberwood overdose that just tickles the nose hair.
I 100% agree with Side Effect being overhyped... And every single time I go do some fragrance shopping, the rep is ALWAYS trying to sell me on it. It's nice, but it's basic. Didn't tell a story, to me
I couldn’t agree more with Allure Homme Sport. I do not see (smell) what everyone else does. As far as Naxos, I go back and forth with whether I like it or not
Man I agree 100% with side effect. It is nice, but it comes across as a sweet mainstream-ish fragrance. A friend of mine was wearing an axe-like canned body spray to the gym, and it gave me the side effect vibes. I couldn’t smell it the same after that. I find it a good scent, but really boring after an hour or two, and in my opinion leaning more towards feminine.
I agree it's redundant to own both iterations of cedrat boise, but I have to disagree about which is better. The original is probably more special, but the opening lemon note is quite synthetic and gives off cleaning solution vibes. The intense tones that down, retains the core scent profile of the original, and adds its own flair with the deeper leather and woods.

It’s a good thing that Justin, and all of his viewers, prioritize your personal taste and wearing what YOU like over the opinions of others ;)

@@seanp7871 I don’t really follow, man. I’m saying that they both have top flight honey notes (1 & 2 so far for me)-not that they’re the same type of fragrance, or even the same type of honey note. not sure why, but it seems like I struck a nerve. hope things calm down for you
Eye of 7 Hills is side effect killer. Amazing!!!
Completely agree with you on Naxos and Side Effect. Both big let downs.
I agree with Naxos it smells good but I get clean laundry / cleaner vibes from it
Had intense cedrat boise, sold it. It's nice. I have other frags that are in the same vein that smell higher quality and better. It's a good frag.
Wow that hurts, Naxos is my number two favorite fragrance. I think that when you enter heaven, it will definitely smell like Naxos. What a perfect gem :)
Keep loving it!
Someone just said what I think about Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme! It's good but it's not special, I still believe the original Allure is the best in the line, Eau Extreme is just more beast mode.
Allure is the OG! 🔥
Totally!
Had a little sample of side effect it was so strong even with a few little sprites from that little 2ml.. bought a full bottle 2023 batch and it is not nearly as strong. Still smells amazing but 5 full sprays is the least ill wear to get some projection
I've tested Side effect and Naxos and neither one of them didn't convince me.
Agree on ahsee. Had it, nice, sold it. I do love naxos though.
Say it louder for the ppl who are nose blind to hype 🗣️
Thank you for this video and for the spark of discussion. I can almost guarantee that if any of these don’t get ppl compliments or get ppl noticed, they wouldn’t be as hyped. Lots of the hype stuff is either cloying or unoriginal too. And ppl have the fear of not fitting in or missing out lol
Once you build your palate, there are much better offerings and sometimes for a better price too.
Thanks! I haven’t tried Superz
Where do you spray your fragrance? Neck, inner elbow ? How many sprays ?
Here’s a video I made about that:

Red Tobacco: 10 sprays all over your body
Loved Cedrat Boise Intense when I first bought it but now I rarely reach for it these days.
Also we have to remember Justin not everyone smells the same thing as we do or you do the fragrances you mention it for many people their nose find something magical you are not able to smell certain music in the notes certain aromas some are more prone to smells than others it's directly correlated whit the body composition certain molecules attracted to the ones your body finds appropriate in need accepted prioritize it and you smells those more because you body its communicating it needs those certain molecules more than others
That's the reason we like some scents more than others in certain same area or country compared to other area's and the foods and nutrients available and in need
I blind bought Vibrato based on the hype. I agree with u. Pleasant but no wow here. Maybe it will grow on me
the only fragrance I disagree with on this list is side effect. that's my favorite Initio and a frequent reach for me in the cooler weather. I also find Naxos to be very "syrupy" and heavy on my skin so I'm glad to know it's not just me that feels that way abut that fragrance lol
Initio is trash 🗑️
Vibrato isn't mindblowing but I'm happy I got a tester for under $160. Chanel AHS was underwhelming for me, smelled great but didn't last on me. Intense Cedrat Boise is one of my signatures I love the depth it has. Naxos I can agree, its a room filler. Idk how anyone could wear it in the summer. Fall/Winter for me.
That's how I felt about haltane (what you stated about vibrato). I thought it was going to be like initio OFG and really it was like spraying on wood varnish overtop of OFG to cover up the fragrance.
Actuallly Naxos has never been reformulated and the reason why some are darker than others is cause the vsnilla does that over time.
As far as Naxos, I go back and forth with whether I like it or not
AHSEE is very sexy in the air. I always say it’s a scent that is not overly pleasant to wear but others will enjoy
I agree with all of these. Also I prefer amyris Homme to the Chanel Ray extreme
Amazing Dr Copeland killing it
My thoughts exactly with regards to Mancera Cedrat Boise Intense, the Chanel, and Naxos.
