    It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better th-cam.com/users/postUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

    Just Pondering....
    A heater alone is not sufficient... please note it will only reduce Relative Humidity.
    Mechanism to suck the moisture out is essential. You can include big Silica Gel bags as well.

    Fantastic Idea. I have earlier built rudimentary cabinets like this by using a filament bulb, but that needs additional timer etc. This looks much easier. (Of course I now use commercially available chinese dry box... but I would highly recommend this for any newbie)

    I have a cheeky but effective idea which I'm already following. I simply put my lenses inside my wooden UPS cabinet, which is somewhat big with ventilation. The UPS fan heats up the cabinet good enough to warm the entire cabinet effectively, like this thermocol box. Now, I'll setup the humidity meter too to monitor the humidity effectively, which is not a big issue for me, since the ambient humidity levels are usually in the range from 30 to 60% depending on the season. It's proved effective for me for the last two years, and no hassles of monitoring, since the UPS is something which is always on anyways at home.

      Heating is not what u want when the humidity is high, usually dry cabinets use a peltier module which condenses the water vapour inside the cabinet there by reducing the humidity inside. I believe Fungi need humidity and warmth to thrive. You are fortunate that your ambient humidity is around 30%.

    Wouldnt increasing temperature shift the relative humidity of the air? that is we are keeping the same amount of water in the air inside but increasing the capacity of air to absorb water. from what I know, the air de-humidifiers work by cooling the air and converting the water vapour in air to dew and then extracting it out. In this case, when the temperature reduces to the original, the humidity percentage also will come back to the original value.

    • @incredibledeepak
      @incredibledeepak 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You are absolutely right, dry cabinets cool the air inside using peltier module.

    This is only reducing relative humidity by increasing the water vapor capacity of the air through heating. Actual volume of water vapor inside the box remains exactly the same. If anything this will probably make your problems with fungus worse as they generally prefer a warm environment.
    Buy a gasket-sealed plastic box and a bag of reusable color changing silica. Simply place the bag of silica in with your camera stuff, seal the box. You'll need to microwave the water out of the silica occasionally when it changes color, but this should be a rarity if you're not opening the box constantly.

    Thanks for this idea. Really helps. But when there is moisture in the camera/lens, with this technique, wont the vapour get trapped inside the box? so on a long run, should we perform any additional measure?

    • @101.shohan3
      @101.shohan3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At one point you are right. Vapour will trap in a closed container and it will harm your gadget. That's why in an electronic desiccator the inside temperature is kept low in this case moisture get condensed in a thermal plate only and that is also a very minimum amount. I will suggest you use low power Peltier plate 2 heat sink and power supply instead of a hot pad. At least you have thought about physics too. If you make this one you have to lots of things keep in your mind. Thank you. Happy learning. Cheers.
