    I push back on the dude newscasters that said the market went south and then rebounded when Trump was elected. I remember the markets skyrocketing when he was elected bc they knew the tax cuts were coming - and they did

      Corporate tax cuts resulting in CEO raises, stock buybacks, and literally 0 resulting growth in real wages for the common person. Nothing new for Republicans but Trump took it to a new level.

    I think these comments about the election are undercut by the use of the term "populism," which doesn't seem to have a precise definition and which is juxtaposed to "democracy" only when ostensible democrats want to criticize the outcome of an election. Moreover, Juan Perón and Benito Mussolini, who are offered as examples of populists, implemented collectivist economic programs which led to both the initial successes and later failures of which Larry Summers spoke in this clip. By contrast, neither Trump nor his supporters advocate collectivist approaches to economics. If the term "populism" covers Trump as well as Perón and Mussolini, the "populism" doesn't really mean anything unless it is simply a pejorative for anti-establishment politicians who have significant electoral support. If time is going to be given to this issue, then the time should be used to say something with actual information content. Otherwise, it's just propaganda like Fox News or MSNBC.

    The campaign against Trump is politicized. Regardless of whether you are for or against him, it is difficult not to come to that conclusion. Summers is too big a Democrat that he cannot be unbiased in that context.

    • @taezonday

      @Sabaka1954 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Are Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney also too big of a Democrat to be unbiased? With all due respect, a lot of people who oppose Trump do so not because they disagree with his policies, but because he doesn't believe in democracy and does not respect democratic institutions. I don't think Larry is speaking as a Democrat on this issue.

      Trump is a disgrace but the world can't take another 4 years of Biden. Adversaries are too emboldened to harm American interests while is is in charge. Has this much conflict ever happened under one president? It cant be coincidental. Russia invaded ukraine, Taliban take over Afghanistan right away, US bases inn Syria and IRaq attacked over 100 times, Hamas and Hezbollah attack Israel, Houthis attack US Navy ships, and commercial vessels, Iran is able to sell more oil under biden making them stronger and sowing more discord, China ever more aggressive with Taiwan and the Philippines. Look at the theme. All American strategic allies being engaged by our enemies

    • @taezonday

      All Trump voters would love Biden if they realized he kept and expanded all beneficial Trump populist policies. The only difference is Trump will push for more corporate tax cuts, implement overtly racist and ineffective immigration policy- dumb "Muslim ban" and "Mexico paying for a border wall that can be cut by a battery angle grinder", and be a major risk of a constitutional crisis because he has already stated he wanted to suspend the constitution and will not accept election results.

      How is Trump representing freedom? What did he do in his 4 years that gave you freedom you did not have already? Did he remove gun laws and regulations or did anything for 2A? No he did nothing. Did he stop immigration? OK he was working to secure the border but H1B visas were flying off the shelf. He spent 2 trillion on COVID and stimulus checks instead to forcing everyone back to work at least under age 50. It was all a real shit show under Trump.
