I feel like with EXO, you truly get “sucked into them” once you start seeing their live stages/ getting to know the members. Their live vocals are probably some of the best in the industry, and once you see them sing/perform live that’ll be the catalyst to really get you hooked like you were asking for.
Kyungsoo, Baekhyun & Chen are vocal legends.
EXO’s bsides and albums in general are out of this world, you have to check them out! All of their albums have no-skips for me and the production quality is crazy. They’re known for their bsides, and I’ve gotten family members who know nothing about kpop into their albums just bc they’re THAT good. If you’re into r&b and love good vocals you especially have to listen bc their albums are masterpieces! 😊
Their bsides are definitely worth listening and may even be more interesting

lotto was definitely one of their most overworked eras (because fuck sm), and in a lot of promotions you can see that they’re very tired, and dancing with like practice injuries, particularly in one where members like lay were in a lot of pain, and chen was performing with an eye infection. it’s really a shame because it was one of my favourite eras, there was a lot of good songs, and one of the last eras where lay was promoting with them

I would like to recommend their b-sides to you, becoz they're known for their b-sides, as in my opinion, all their songs really sound different from the styles of most Kpop groups! Besides, you can check out their *winter album's MVs which are "Miracles in December', "Sing For You', 'Unfair(Live stage)', 'For Life" and the "Universe"* ! All these songs really suits this season so well, so I believe that you will love it too~

In EXO's "Love Shot" MV, one theory is that the members are fighting to discover who has been corrupted by the Red Force and who may not be who they say they are, etc., which I see as a sort of continuation of the story in "Tempo." which is why you see them being very suspicious pointing their guns -- which are filled with alcohol -- at each other. (Get it? the song is called "Love Shot" so it has a double meaning: Love Shot like a gun and Love Shot like a shot of alcohol. :D)
There are 8 members in "Love Shot." EXO's Chinese member Lay was not able to participate in this MV.
I'm not sure why they first ended up at the gas/service station or the cinema/movie theater, but the story in this MV is all about how the Red Force is trying to corrupt and control them. For example, supposedly, most fans agree, that Xiumin may have been captured by the Red Force. If you notice, Xiumin is squaring off with a group of guys with guns, but a few seconds later we see someone with a mask and when the mask is removed you see that it's Xiumin, which seems to show that he may not be who we think he is. And when Chen is sitting in the theater watching the film, you see what fans agree is probably Suho, as the leader, covering Chen's eyes as he tries to protect the members by preventing Chen from watching the film. The movie is thought to probably be the Red Force trying to control EXO with whatever is being shown on the screen, etc.
You also see references to the movie screen with Chen being projected on the screen in their MV for "Lucky One" and the scene where Suho is running through the forest in their MV for "For Life," etc. These instances seem to be showing times when the Red Force are using the videos to brainwash EXO and to keep them incapacitated so they don't try to fight back or escape, etc.
EXO has no use for money -- money is the root of all evil and it is thought to be one of the ways the Red Force may be corrupting humanity, by using our materialistic greed and need to accumulate wealth, etc. Like we see in "Lotto'/"Monster" for instance. So by burning large sums of money EXO are eliminating that temptation and preventing the Red Force from having control, etc.
The flowers have two purposes, one is they represent Love and EXO is collecting love, but also the flowers are a big part of EXO's storyline. There has been a flower theme that continues throughout all of EXO's MVs. The flowers are thought to be something that EXO is collecting and trying to get rid of to prevent the Red Force from being able to control people, etc. They often collect the flowers and then burn them, like you see in "Love Shot" and in EXO-CBX's "Hey Mama." Blue roses also have some sort of significance, but I am not sure what yet -- we see EXO with a blue rose in their concert performances of "Lightsaber" and we see Sehun with a blue rose in "Love Shot." Some of what happens in this story is explained by past MVs and other parts will hopefully, be explained as the story continues in future MVs.
Baekhyun is actually one of the main characters in EXO's storyline so he is often set apart or singled out in EXO's MVs. He is often the one that stands alone or is highlighted in the story. In their "Power" MV Baekhyun has been singled out and is sort of separated from the other members. Which seems to suggest maybe Baekhyun is the only member that hasn't been corrupted by the Red Force. So that is why in "Tempo" and in "Love Shot" we see Baekhyun standing on top of the building looking down on the rest of the members, almost as if he is observing them from another dimension or from another time period. Baekhyun is often the one who is going behind the sense to help EXO. For example, we see him disguised as a member of the police as he rescues the other members from the back of the police van in "Monster," and we see Baekhyun facing off with and confronting Xiumin in "Love Shot," etc. :D
And now that we have discovered that the Red Force has created X-EXO, EXO's evil clones, as part of "Obsession's" story, I am also starting to think that maybe in "Love Shot" we aren't just seeing EXO. I think maybe when we see the members dressed in the bright colors -- for example, when they are in their suites -- this might be X-EXO and when we see the scenes were they are in black, this could be EXO. Because, if you remember, in "Obsession" we find out that the members in all black are EXO the good guys, and when we see them in the colorful outfits with the crazy hair and makeup that is their X-EXO alter ego clones.
This could also explain why Kai is dressed in a red suit. Although, I am sure their stylists put him in red because he looks really good in it, I think SM chose it because it's another hidden message within the storyline. Usually, whenever we see red in EXO's MVs this has something to do with the Red Force, so for a long time I have been wondering why then would they put Kai in a red suit? However, now that we know about the X-EXO members, I am starting to think that when we see the members in their colorful suits and clothing in "Love Shot" this is actually the X-EXO members, so when we see Kai in red this is his alter ego clone, as well as the other members when we see them in suits, etc.
I also think maybe the members who are collecting all the flowers in "Love Shot" are really X-EXO, as part of some evil plot, etc. If you look at the members expressions and the outfits they are wearing in the scenes where you see them collecting the flowers, this reminds me a lot of what they looked like in their MV for "Ko Ko Bop." Since "Obsession," theories now think that what the "Ko Ko Bop" MV was showing us was X-EXO right after they were created as they are becoming acclimated to the world and learning how to use their powers, etc. Which would explain why everything in the "Ko Ko Bop" MV is so brightly colored as well.
But you should also know that no one really knows for sure what is happening in any of EXO's MVs. There are well known theories and storylines that are accepted within the fandom which we think might explain what is happening in each MV. And there are theories about how each MV is connected and where each falls within their larger storyline, but nothing is set in stone. As we have discovered with EXO's latest installment of their story with "Obsession," fan theories are constantly evolving and changing with every new piece of the puzzle and now it has completely changed what we thought we understood about almost everything in their previous MVs.

i was into anime since very young so i always kind of knew some kpop but exo's debut was literally what made me stan, they will always be one of my ults, that's why when people i watch regularly react to them it always makes me quite happy

I feel like you're gonna love EXO-CBX (Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin sub unit) when you get to check them out, also I really wanna see you reacting to their debut song Mama, (my personal favorite), Monster, Lucky One, and Obsession. Hope you can find that song that makes you fall for them among those.
The song is called "Tempo" and the album is named Don't Mess Up My Tempo, so the song is constantly changing tempos. I think the change in tempo is also supposed to mirror the uncertainty and unsteadiness that EXO are feeling within the storyline in the MV. However, if you read the lyrics, you see that the song is talking to a girl and they are telling her, "Don't mess up my tempo." And yes, part of the tempo in the song is created by the squeak of what is thought to be bed springs. (Bed springs are not strange if you connect it to the fact that the song is called "Tempo" -- i.e. rhythm -- and on the surface the meaning could be interpreted using sexual innuendo. LOL) However, as with everything EXO does, there are duel meanings depending on how deeply you want to interpret the song and MV. On the surface the song and MV is meant to be enjoyed by the casual watcher and listener like you would any song on the radio, but if you want to delve in deeper and explore EXO's storyline, then there is so much more going on.
The aesthetic of the "Tempo" MV is centered around the color red because the setting is supposed to be depicting the members under the Red Forces' control. Without going into too much detail -- there is so much going on in EXO's "Tempo" MV that it's hard to grasp it all -- what fan theories think is happening in "Tempo" is it is showing the members of EXO all trapped in separate dimensions. Each of those rooms, could possibly be a different dimension and that is why you see the glitches and why you hear Xiumin and Baekhyun with that computerized voice, because they aren't all in the same place at the same time so their voices are being distorted as they try to connect between dimensions, etc.
Baekhyun is the one that is singled out in the MV and he is the one standing above everything looking down, so this is one example of where we think that maybe he is the only one who has avoided the Red Force's control and he is observing everything that is going on from the outside.
You see Chanyeol being interrogated by Chen with the inkblot test and that is thought to be the members trying to figure out who are the real EXO members and who are the evil X-EXO members created by the Red Force -- or who are the real members and who are the clones. At this point everyone is suspicious of each other and no one can be trusted. As you may have noticed, halfway through the MV Chanyeol's eyes and hair change color, so some think that this is either showing two different versions of Chanyeol who appear in two different time periods or dimensions, or one is Chanyeol the EXO member and one is Chanyeol the X-EXO clone.
In the very last scene, that is Baekhyun with that cube. I am not sure what that means, but I am sure it's foreshadowing something to come in the future with EXO's storyline.
As you may have noticed, you also see EXO's Chinese member Lay in this MV, but you won't see or hear him sing or dance in this MV because you watched the Korean version and at this time the Chinese government only gave him permission to appear in the Korean version of "Tempo", but he wasn't allowed to participate in the song. If you want to hear Lay sing you will have to watch the Mandarin version of the "Tempo" MV. Lay has a few lines in the Mandarin version, but he was not allowed to work with the other members, so all his parts were recorded separately and they had to be inserted into the song and MV. He had to get special permission even to take part in this comeback, and this is the closest we have gotten to seeing him back with the group since all these political issues started almost 5 years ago now. And so far, this is the one and only time you will see him in an EXO MV and song since 2016. However, the tension between Korea and China has started to let up and the Chinese government, has recently rescinded their ban on Korea and China working together, so we have the potential to see Lay come back to do a project with EXO in the future.
It's kind of mind blowing the amount of planning and manipulation SM Entertainment has been doing over the years to connect all the dots and to continue the story. It gets even crazier when you realize how even the most minute of details were crafted to be a hidden message or detail within that storyline.
Nothing in this MV is random or done just because, even the smallest of detail has been planned out to either connect to something to do with EXO's storyline from past MVs or it will become a key part to help explain something in one of their future MVs. As you have discovered, EXO's storyline began more than 8 years ago during their pre-debut when they were still rookie trainees and it has been one continuous mystery and story ever since.
I became an EXOL not because of their title tracks but bsides. Obsession is the only exception but in general I prefer their bsides much more.
I suggest you try EXO's "Stronger", "Gravity", "Wait", Day after Day", and "Trouble."

I can assure you, you WILL get hooked. Exo discography is not typically kpop. It’s got all genres in there. Their strong points are their vocals, live performances and of course visuals. They are definitely talented but definitely pretty good looking too
TEMPO live performance is fire. Especially the bridge part
Fan theories believe that "Lotto" is the prequel to "Monster." "Monster" is from EXO's EX'Act album and "Lotto" is from their EX'Act repackaged album. So, to understand the story in "Lotto" and "Monster" you have to connect the two storylines. How I interpret things is that the story starts in "Lotto" as EXO goes undercover and works to take down the gambling ring, which is thought to probably be run by the Red Force, and now that we know about EXO's clones, from their "Obsession" storyline, maybe even X-EXO are involved.
You may have noticed that you don't see Kai dancing in the "Lotto" MV. Lay and Sehun are the dancers highlighted in "Lotto." Kai was injured during this time and couldn't dance. And if you see a live performance of this song during this time, you will notice that Kai is absent when Lay is part of the performance.
You might also notice, if you watch a live performance, that in some live TV network performances of "Lotto" that they change the title of the song to "Louder" and the lyrics are changed to use the word louder instead of lotto as well. Gambling is illegal in Korea and it's one of those things that are banned from being talked about in mainstream media. So in order to make the song TV- and radio-friendly they had to change everything to "Louder."
I think the two stories in both "Lotto" and "Monster" actually overlap. I think both MVs take place in the same location and around the same time frame, and in each MV you see the members in different moments as they try to destroy everything to do with this gambling ring. You see them breaking everything in both MVs and you see them smash the car in "Lotto" and in "Monster" you see the car has now been set on fire, and they burn the money and other things in "Lotto" as well, etc. At the end of "Lotto" you see the police or FBI have come in and are just starting to take the members into custody, but if you remember in "Monster" it shows all the members have now been arrested. So I see it as the fight starts in "Lotto" and continues in "Monster." At the end of "Monster" all the members were now in custody and Baekhyun rescues them as he releases them from the back of the police van allowing them to escape, etc.
The birds you see in the cage are roosters -- cock fighting roosters to be exact -- and they are another form of gambling. And the dogs are probably guard dogs like what criminal enterprises use as part of their security to deter someone from causing trouble or wanting to rob them, etc. The dogs are thought to be part of the Red Forces' security efforts. Don't worry, SM and EXO don't like animal cruelty either, that's the whole point they are trying to make. It's just another form of evil that comes with gambling.
Also, in the "Obsession" MV you will see EXO are the members in all black and X-EXO are the members in the colorful outfits with the crazy makeup and hair. If you notice, in "Monster" the members are all in black, and in "Lotto" they are pretty much in black or dark neutral colors, so that is why I think both MVs are depicting the story from EXO's point of view, not X-EXO. So, I think what we are watching are the EXO members trying to take down X-EXO and the Red Force and stop the evil and corruption that the Red Force is inflicting on the world which is depicted here as corruption through illegal gambling.
We are not really sure what the girl takes from Chanyeol at the end of "Lotto", but it definitely wasn't money. If you pay attention to the lyrics, one of the English lines is, "I don't need no money." That is why they burn the huge stack of cash. Most theories agree that what EXO are collecting are flowers. There is an overwhelming use of flowers in many of their MVs, and as you will see in "Love Shot," for example, they aren't collecting money but flowers. And in "Hey Mama" and "Blooming Day" and "Love Me Right", etc. you see them with flowers. My theory is that the girl is somehow connected to EXO's quest to find and protect the Tree of Life and that is why at the end of "Lotto" you see her secretly take something -- which if you pause the MV and zoom in, you will see looks like a small video tap -- to somehow help them in their quest. The video tape is thought to be the video that D.O. is filming with the camcorder in the middle of "Lotto." It's still unclear at this point how the girl fits in the storyline, but I think, or at least I hope, that in the future we will discover more about her and what significance she has within the story.
Some say the "girl" that EXO is always singing about and you sometimes see in their MVs -- like in "Lotto" -- is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. And why all their songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl, such as in "Overdose" for example. Or how they talk about knowing they are bad news for the girl but they want her anyway and they can't help it, but in the end they know they might destroy her -- as they say in "Monster," etc. etc. When you think of the girl as the heart of the Tree of Life the mystery begins to unfold even more.
It's been more than 3 years since "Lotto" came out and I have seen the MV dozens of times, and each time I watch it I still see something different and am still working to unravel more clues. But "Lotto" and "Monster" are the two EXO MVs that have me the most confused. And I am still struggling to really grasp the full story those MVs are trying to tell. I think part of the reason why I find these two MVs so confusing, is the fact that these MVs depart the most from the linear storyline and the story jumps back and forth between the two MVs so much that I struggle to put the events in order in my mind to really make a clear picture.

I believe Lotto was the second EXO song I ever heard and got me interested-- it's still a fave to this day. I wanna suggest Fall, from their Winter Special Album 2017. It's THE. MOST. BEAUTIFUL. EXO song, in my opinion. I listen to it every night on my sleep playlist. Lol

Tempo is still my favorite EXO title song... that accapella (I never know how to spell it) part took my breath away and I think it showcases their vocal abilities so perfectly... I'm just still amazed by it. Love Shot is iconic, but still, Tempo... on the other hand my favorite album is The War - the one that has Ko Ko Bop for their title song - and I actually love Ko Ko Bop the least on that album hahahaha

It was Tempo that started me on the EXO journey. I am a sucker for acapella and they nailed it here. The song says don't mess up my tempo but they ended up making all the tempo changes on the whole song and strangely, it really worked and their harmonies made it feel like that is how it's meant to be. Those vocal flex sucked me in the first time and didn't mind the black hole i ended up in. LOL
That " Lipstick chateau wine bit color" by Baekhyun will forever be iconic. It still stuck on my head until now. And of course Tempo's whole bridge is still the best bridge in KPOP discography until now. Queen Love Shot and Kai' red suit will always be superior

Funny thing about love shot though was that we all thought it was going to be a Christmas song. A sort of continuation of universe. So the song was a sort of ice bath shock.
