Omg how did I not realise the Six of Crows before?? I’ve thought before that Erin would make a wonderful Genya for an ASMR role play, and now she’s actually read the books??
Erin, you would have lots of fun checking the different translations for Voldemort’s name around the world. Because Tom Marvollo Riddle was an anagram that would only work in English, some countries (for example here in Brazil) had to get really creative with the translation. If I’m not mistaken his middle name in France is Elvis so the sentence could be “je souis lord Voldemort”(literally pardon my French). It’s always amusing to check this translation in particular both sentence and name they chose. In Brazil I think his middle name turned into something somewhat similar in meaning like Servollo instead of Marvollo but the anagram result is very flashy like ALAS VOLDEMORT IS HERE (not verbatim but literally how intense the sentence came out as).
I remember reading somewhere that they changed it to the Sorcerer's Stone because a sorcerer sounds more flashy and exciting to American kids than a philosopher. 🤷
I think it was partially because of what Serras said and also because the concept of the Philosopher's Stone isn't well known here. Could also be that referencing alchemy into a book about magic/witchcraft would just make it more confusing? I remember being little and thinking Nicholas Flamel was just a powerful wizard, like Merlin or something, and lived so long because of his magic. It also made me think that maybe Dumbledore was or could live to be hundreds of years old, too. So yeah, maybe because alchemy isn't as familiar of a concept to American youths. -and then Fullmetal Alchemist happened-
Harold and his purple crayon was a book my parents used to read to me as a kid and i totally forgot it existed until now. It's actually a really cool concept, a kid that can create whatever he wants through the power of his imagination. Thank you for the forgotten memory moon girl.
In my country theres a book, really similar to Harold, about a little girl gifted with a magic stone which have a power to create things from the girl's imagination, and a second part of that book is about a crayon which brings sketches to life! The title is "Karolcia". I forgot about it until now too 😅
Sometimes I forget my age until a person mentions a year and I remember things about it. 1997 was the year I began grad school. For me, it's trippy as hell that I'm old enough to me the mother of adults. Holy crap! Time flies by as you get older.
The Throne of Glass series is one of my favorite reads of all time. Highly recommend if you want to give it another shot! The world expands so beautifully through the series so it’s never boring.
