I have an x and I had to buy a charger for it as on 3rd battery from the dealer. Sorry its an 2021 model. There is some spare wires under the back seat but I don't have a clue what there for. P.s. sorry to hear about your news and keep up the good work I enjoy your videos and content very much. Kind regards
Hi I’m Antonio from Italy. I’ve a Benelli TRK 502 x from a couple of months. Probably the same battery issue is because the bbox it’s in there (actually it doesn’t work). The charger connection there isn’t in mine directly from the factory but I must take off the double saddle ( I think the power battery is undersize 12v 8 ah). Anyway 56 years old I’m a motorcyclist back so enjoy of Benelli TRK x. Great videos and useful! Ride safe. Thanks a lot Antonio
Thanks Antonio if you use a trickle charger on your battery you should be fine. It stops the battery problem. Thanks for watching bro stay safe and upright 😎🤘
Hi Tom, thanks for your kind reply. I have ridden the trk & loved the power spread and neutral handling. I set off, to turn back at the Lytham turn off, but ended up riding to Blackpool & back on the M55! I didnt want to give it back Lol. I noticed slight vibes but was ok with them as I had owned a Kawasaki W650 in the past. I currently have two bikes, a Suzuki gsx1250 which I find too much of a lump now & the tracer 700 which I find rather choppy to ride, but, in its favour its LIGHT. So, to sum up, the trk is on my shopping list for spring 2022. Happy & safe riding to you tom, may see you at the carousel one day! Take care mate.
Cheers Tom, my first shout out on TH-cam thank you. Ok, I have learned from my mistakes when I started riding every battery was a lead acid (flooded) type, the new ones are either AGM (asorbed glass material) or a GEL, they do not like the older style unregulated battery chargers - I managed to cook one boy did it get hot, now I am much wisher. I use a brand called CTEK smart charger has 6- 8 stages of charge. For the bike (Yamaha MT-03 trending towards a TRK 502) I use a CTEK XS0.8 (0.8A) cost 34.50 UK pounds and the car CTEK MXS5.0 (5A) cost 48.50 UK pounds - I bought these when they where on special at 25% off. The car one can be used on a bigger bike battery. The only negative with the CTEK is the leads that you have wired out externally are a bit short only 20cm and don't have a fuse in them. What I am trying to figure out now is how to jump start the bike when the battery is flat. I can wire out thicker cables it is what plug to put on the end of it, I am open for suggestions? Cheers stay upright, Stuart from Sydney. ps Please accept my condolences for the passing of your father, I have been there - dads are great mates.
Thanks Stuart. Yes you could make your own cables and use thicker ones ( not too thick ) if you use a trickle charger it won’t over charge your battery so you shouldn’t get any over heating problem or acid leaks. If you can mate please as more people you know to subscribe thanks mate stay safe. Tom .
My condolences. Hopefully that is all that's wrong with mine is a battery. Ironically coming home from visiting my dad in the cemetery mine started cutting out on me and then totally shut off. Start again got farther down the road before totally shut off again. Engine was cutting out the whole time. Waited a super long time to get a tow to house. Pushed in garage when I came back out next day there was only power to the switches on handlebar. My mother passed away Sunday night. I just took the battery out and hooked it up to a charger. As you mentioned way too much going on and getting ready to go into winter. The logistics of moving all of my stuff including two bikes one it isn't working right now it's going to be a nightmare
Hi Atrip my condolences sorry for your loss. I don’t know how old your battery is but you may need to replace it. Hang in there mate stay strong and upright. Tom 😎✌️
Good advice, a trickle charger connected to a bike when not in use is the way to go. I've a couple of Benellis and they both have this set up on them when not on the road. It's a low cost way of keeping the batteries in tip top condition!
Hi, I recently had a test ride of a 2021 trk, strangely when I was booking my test in at the dealers, they mentioned that the battery was dead! so I arranged to ride it the next day. I think Tom has revealed this as a common problem. I loved the bike (was planning to trade my 700 Tracer in for it) but this battery issue issue has tainted things. I will however keep subscribed as I haven't written this bike off and value Tom's informative videos.
Hi N . Thanks for watching bro . Please don’t right off the benelli just yet. Do take it for a test ride you’ll love it. Remember if you buy £15 charger and keep the battery top up you won’t have any problems with the battery. Once you have contact the charger leads to the battery under the seat you won’t need to take the seat off every time you want to charge the bike . Let me know how your test ride goes. All the best mate ride safe. Tom
That's good advice, but not everyone is fortunate enough to have a garage or large shed, for those who have to keep their bike outside its a bit more of a challenge, I have an Oxford cover which has a clear window in the front specifically for the solar panel trickle change unit called the solariser which Oxford sell, I haven't bought one yet, but interesting idea to use daylight to keep the battery topped up! And especially for your Australian subscribers, least those in the sunny parts lol
@@BenelliTomTRK fair point, but as the Oxford solariser is only £27 I'd hardly call it expensive Tom, and I'd bet the cost of fitting an external waterproof electric socket will be more than that especially if you have an electrician doing the work.
@@BenelliTomTRK oh yeah I understand that mate, equally I'm just pointing out that it's not exactly expensive, but we shall see, I've ordered one to go with the Oxford Oxford Stormex cover
Hi, I am thinking of a 502, new. I am confused about the bbox. I assume they are fitted as standard to 2022 models, but do they have an immobiliser? There is no mention of it in the Benelli spec on their site. I have one of those fancy Chinese chargers, they do trickle charge, I keep two spare 12v car batteries topped up using one.
Hi RC The bbox are only fitted to the E5 models not E4 and as for as I know there’s been a few problems with it. And yes the bbox does drain your battery. So keeping it on the trickle charger is the best idea. As for a Immobiliser the TRK / TRK X DOES NOT COME WITH ONE. Thanks for watching bro benelli Tom TRK 😎🤘🇬🇧
Good afternoon, I'm from the Azores and I saw your video about the TRK 502 battery drain. I would like to know if the battery charges while driving, because when I charge the battery and then leave with the motorcycle, when I get home the battery is no longer fully charged thanks
Hi Rui no the battery won’t change while riding. I think the problem was the new fog lights that I fitted that was causing the problem as they was wired to a permanent live . So I taken off the lights and so far so good. Thanks for watching bro 🇬🇧🤘😎
Hello Tom Thanks for the quick response. I have a Yamaha YEC-9 charger. Tell me if it's safe for the bike to keep charging continuously for example for 2 weeks, or should I turn it off as soon as the battery is fully charged
It’s totally safe to keep your bike on charge.. BUT IT MUST BE A TRICKLE CHARGER. What a Trickle charger does is keep’s the battery topped up and will Automatically start and Stop charging when needed. You can buy these on EBay or Amazon. Just search for 12v Trickle charger. Hope this helps RUI. Ride safe mate . And thanks for watching. Please ask people to subscribe. All the best. Tom 🤘😎🇬🇧
Hello Tom, I left the bike today at the dealership and they have already called me saying that the battery is losing charge. They'll see tomorrow morning how it is. I just hope the warranty works, because I bought the bike only 7 months ago and I had already left it there once to charge. I'll give you feedback as soon as I know. Thanks again for your help
