I’ve never been to IKEA, I live in a very rural area and town is 100 miles away. I’m excited, I’m going with my son tomorrow. Thank you for the inspiration, and I’m ordering my first ever liberty fabric.
I’m chairman of our guild Boutique and when you found the blanket and suggested using it as “wadding” what we call batting, I thought, how brilliant! And there were other suggestions that were also super useful. Great trip Emma, thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍
Nearly every time I've been to IKEA (not in years), I've wandered aimlessly around for three hours, gotten lost and finally left with a bag of tealights and a plant. From conversation with others, I gather I'm not alone.
Haha yes! That has definitely happened to me in the past. The amount of times I’ve realised I’ve been going round in circles 🤦🏼♀️🤣 thanks so much for watching 🌸
Thanks Emma, I think you and I shop at the same branch of Ikea! I too have a mini ironing board but I added an extra layer of wadding under the cover. I use the fleece throws to back Linus quilts so no wadding needed and the children like the soft cosy feel of them. Love the idea of the mirrors.
I've never lived near enough to Ikea to go to one. I've heard about them for years. This was the first peek I've had inside one. The nearest to me now is a 3 hour drive. My health doesn't allow shopping even in town anymore. Thank you for sharing.
Oh I’m sorry to hear that Anne, I’m glad you enjoyed the video and having a peek inside. They do sell online if you decided you wanted to buy something. Take care and thank you for watching
Emma, I love my mini ironing board! It's so handy when I just need to iron a small piece of something and not have to drag out the big one. I keep my little one set up on the counter in my laundry room all the time so I can zip in and zip out. Nice video! Oh...to have the funds to be totally organized ☺
I’m so glad you love your ironing board too! It is so handy, I need to use mine more! I would love to be totally organised, I’m looking around my sewing room now and it’s a disaster!🤣
I had one in my sewing room that my daughter borrowed when she was at Uni. It was great in her student flat because it hung on the back of a door. I don’t think it was used very often! 😂
The key to ikea is to write a list or go online first to have a look. Those fleece blankets are great for homemade design boards. Those little beige containers are great drawer organisers I have similar ones in my Alex drawers next to my sewing machine for storing everything from clips to sewing machine feet. They’re really handy. I thought the wooden sewing boxes were a bit expensive too.
I didn’t think of using that for a design board, so thank you! As making a design board is on my list for this year, so I will definitely be going back for one now. Thanks so much!
What a nice trip to Ikea! I use a lot of Ikea things in the sewing / crafting room. One box in particular is my all time favorite! It's GLIS. It has a lid that snaps open and close, makes it good for transportation. It ist transparent, so you can see from the outside, what's inside. It is stackable with kind of feet and dents. It comes in two sizes, I use them both. For storage I use multiple Billy shelves and GLIS fits perfectly. 👋🏻
There are sew many great things at ikea, I bought a bamboo plate rack and keep all my quilting rulers in it. And one of those desk tidies for WIP, scissors, rotary cutters etc etc
Thank you, Emma, for taking us to IKEA! I’ve never been so it was fun to see all of the different things they offer. I appreciate all of your ideas for the sewing room ! ~Cathy
Thank you for the IKEA visit Emma. My nearest store is over 100 miles away so I don’t get to visit often but I can buy online so you’ve given me some ideas 😊
When I lived in the UK I made a quilt from IKEA fabrics that 20 years later I still have here at home in New Zealand! What I would say is to wash their fabric well before piecing and quilting, as it’s Home Dec fabric it will shrink more than fabric sold in Quilting stores. We don’t have Ikea yet in NZ but it’s opening soon! Can’t wait to have access again to them, looks like you enjoyed your trip!
That was very interesting I didn’t know that ikea sold so much that you can find useful for the sewing room. Thank you Emma for your inspiration. Have a wonderful day 😊💞
Another great video. I love Ikea but my nearest one is 3 hours away (I'm in Australia) I normally go with my sister in law and make a day of it. You've given me a lot of inspiration thanks Emma 😊 ❤❤
Thank you Emma for the ideas. I will be a bit more creative when I go next, normally just pop along for what I need and, as you say, there are good ideas if you look for them. Take care and look after yourself xx😊
Thank you Emma for the tour of Ikea and all the wonderful ideas for our sewing rooms. When I moved into our new home I had the luxury of choosing how it was furnished. I have a wall of Billy bookcases that store my boxes of fabrics and bits and pieces, pretty ornaments and books. I found a wonderful Norden gate leg table that can fit neatly against the wall or you have a choice to lift out one leaf or two. The added bonus of drawers to add storage. I like the idea of a peg board as I think this would fit nicely behind the door and store all my cutting mats and rulers. xx
Hello there Emma OMG what a Awsom video The IKEA trip was so amazing The items you pointed out are amazing and so clever I to did the peg board a couple of years ago and it’s the best I did a whole wall in peg and it’s so useful for the crafter no matter what you do and the mirror for fussy cutting that was bloody brilliant thank you 😊 Look forward to your next video thank you again
Lovely visit to IKEA, saved my legs and sanity, as I also get tired and tetchy and come out with a bath plug or something similar that is usually the wrong size. I sometimes have had to walk through displays to cut out whole sections of the IKEA route. One thing I have seen on other vlogs is the use of IKEA quilt covers for patchwork EPP or backing. They are usually very colourful and good quality, so that’s a corner to check out on another visit, but I don’t think I will be going anytime soon.
What a brilliant idea for wadding! 😀 I'm definitely going to pick up some of those blankets next time I visit IKEA. Great video, lots of inspiration, thanks Emma ☺️.
Great video Emma … loved all your ideas …. I could spend DAYS in ikea, and they are definitely a crafters/ sewers life saver when it comes to functional furniture and storage ideas 💖💖
Thanks for the ikea tour. 💕You’ve inspired me to go have a look for myself. I do have the kalix shelving in my sewing space but I need some of those little cute boxes. X
I hadn't though of Ikea in terms of sewing storage but I like the thought...and they are quite cheap on the smaller items. It was fun to see what they had and now I want to go to the one here which is probably only a 25 minute drive. I love your ironing board cover, so pretty! You keep us 'Sew" inspired and encouraged! Still with your calm and soothing approach, thank you!🥰
Thank you for this video, I am a quilter... We don't have IKEA in South Africa, but I am looking forward to going to one soon when I travel to Zurich and London. Will definitely get the mini ironing board ! Also love the fleece throws for batting. All the best from Cape Town.
i like to use vintage items most of the time for storage & i also try not to buy too much plastic, love the wood & metal ideas; thanx for the tour & inspiration
So thrilled to have found you..We have an Ikea in Denver Colorado US..not far from me. I loved your tour.."great ideas" ..I haven't been there yet because I don't need any furniture, and did not realize how many other things they have I may use..Again , thank you..Looking forward to all I will learn from you..🥰
I need to visit IKEA 😂 in all of my 55 years I have never been! I'm actually going to be getting my sewing room back in a few months (son is finally leaving home 🎉 😮) and I have already started thinking about how I want it to look. You have definitely given me some ideas here. I like the little ironing board but I have a wool pressing mat so I'm not sure I would actually use it 🤔 I like the idea of using the blanket as wadding too. Very cost-effective, I may try this with my qayg as there can be quite a bit of waste with that. Lovely video as always Emma ❤
The little pink tubs are the perfect size to store dress patterns. I have them inside a cupboard on a shelf and the patterns can be seen easily as they stand up in the box. You could label each box also.
Thank you for showing us around Ikea, it looks like there is going to be a trip to my nearest one, I have not been for a long time but there was a lot I of inspiration for storage which I definitely need.x
The thing about storage containers that makes IKEA displays so desirable is that everything matches. Yes, you can make a display cohesive with a mismatch of baskets, but it takes talent to pull off. But putting 20 baskets all of the same line takes no effort. So measure your space and buy all that you need all at once. Because everytime I've gone back because I need one more... They're discontinued! 💖🌞🌵😷
Hi Emma. Great video. I have the IKEA ironing board attached to the top of the IKEA trolly. My husband hinged it so I can store things under it and all my ironing equipment (spray bottles, sewing hams, sleeve board, etc) fit on the shelves underneath. I simply roll it over to my work area and iron. It stores nicely in the corner when not in use.
Hey Emma again . Love your ideas for Ikia , you never know wat a store would have to help you will storage etc . Love the mirror idea because I've been pricing them and yes they are expensive . Thanks again take care , keep safe .❤
I've not been to Ikea for a long time, I do love it though, so huge thanks for the outing. Kids desk tidy for EPP is a great idea, and all those lovely tidy boxes, it would be great for the option of clear lids, very dusty in the city so I need them.
I’m so glad you liked the video! Yes lids are important, I was thinking of the pink ones for scraps that I’m always dipping in and out of but anything I store away has to have a lid too. Thanks so much for watching 🤗
The Skubb fabric box set is a great fabric storage buy. The rectangle and small square boxes are ideal for storing fat quarters and half metres. I also love the premade cushion covers - I sew EPP motifs on the front - great if you don't have enough spoons to make a cushion cover but want to finish a project.
Great ideas and I love IKEA. I have a bought a few useful things there for organizing my sewing space. I put all my spools of thread by colour in glass canisters (or mason jars) and I keep all my fat quarters in the TJOG storage boxes (they look like shoe boxes).
I have all my projects in clear boxes A4size with lids from IKEA. It keeps them separate, away from dust and I can see what’s in them. After watching Emma’s video at new year about organising your projects I feel a lot more in control of them and my space ( shared with our family….) Thanks Emma
Hello Emma! What a lovely idea to get us thinking a bit laterally when it comes to setting up craft spaces! I haven’t been to Ikea for years but your episode most definitely got me inspired and I can see a little trip coming up during my next week off! However, beforehand I shall have my mini break in Ironbridge, ahahah! 🪡🧵🌸
Lovely to see you again.Hope your a little better than you have been. Really enjoyed our trip with you to idea. Helpful tips given. Thank you. Take care.
Thank you Karen, I’ve been feeling better and better particularly over the last three weeks, I just hope it lasts. Thanks for watching, I hope you are well 🌸
@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox did they ever find out what was making you feel so poorly. Bless you it’s not nice. Have a lot going on myself health wise at the mo, so I know how it brings you down. Take care go steady and let’s hope it keeps improving for you.x ex nurse so happy to talk if you ever need it.
I just got back my 1st Kaleidoscope Quilt from the Long Armer & love the affect. She used dragonfly pattern & my quilt back is a dragonfly design. I have to bind it now. Next I'll make a tee-shirt quilt in honor of my later sister Angel & hopefully have an Angel pattern of quilting.
Super video I want dash off to Cardiff now. I have loads of bits that I have collected over the years they have just get better. My whole sewing is based on ikea. That ladder is a must so can’t to visit thank you . 😀
Loved all your ideas. Did you know that the fleece throw can be pinned to a wall and your patchwork pieces will just adhere to it so you can get an idea of placement. It is also great as wadding although there is no shrinkage 😊
Really loved the IKEA tour. The one where I live is too confusing to get to. One has to enter heavy traffic flow onto the major multiple lane bridge highway and, that has so many tentacled off-ramps before and after even getting on the bridge - I've given up in frustration. So I do appreciate your tour. I might give it another attempt and check it off my bucket list, lol.
Thank you for the video about IKEA. I hadn’t even thought about all the storage pieces. I didn’t realize the had fabrics. I’m going to have to make a point to go and see what I can find, too!
Here's my thoughts on storage containers for the sewing room... Open containers are fine for drawers, but containers for shelves should have a cover to keep dust and pet hairs away. If you must have open baskets or bins, they should have some sort of lip or ledge so they stack and so the contents doesn't get squashed. I hate seeing baskets stacked and the top ones are leaning because the contents of the one below isn't level. This doesn't happen with baskets with a stacking ledge. 💖🌞🌵😷
My sewing table is an IKEA island top that In purchased legs for separately elsewhere, it's great! I have lots of room, on one side are my sewing machines (serger and regular machine) and I cut and pin on the other side
My mini ironing board is for sleeves, so it's even smaller. It hangs on a hook in the hall cupboard for years at a time, untouched, apart from a dust now and then, but when you need it, it's just the job.
Thank you for so much great information in a very short time! I loved what you shared in your video. I’m just getting into Lucy Boston, so the mirrors would be ideal. I’ll look at the link you mentioned. Thanks again.:)🩷
Thank you Emma. I love IKEA😄 but sadly don't have one close. ☹️How the devil did you go round IKEA and only spend £2.50!!!!?🤪. Think the blanket idea is fant! Take care and stay safe🤗
Hi Emma, Liked your inspirational trip to IKEA! I must have a visit there! Lots of sewing goodies to be had and aren't those pegboards fab?! I attached one to a wheeled trolley to make a craft station after seeing it done online. It works great. I also like the "Mala" portable drawing case from Ikea's children's section which I use a lot! It has inside pockets for supplies and a hard surface on the outside, which acts as a desk. The whole thing zippers closed, so it's perfect to projects on the go! Happy sewing! 😊 ❤🧵
Nice video, and although I am not in England, I'm in the USA, think I can get the things i liked. Fabric is no longer available in the US sadly, because I bought quite a bit when it was...
Emma, I don't think you need to worry about wasting fabric whilst fussy cutting to make fantastic hexi flowers because you love the miniature sizes (like 1/4"). And there's always a small scrap to fit those miniature sizes. 💖🌞🌵😷
@@emmajonesvintagesewingboxJen from Shabby Fabrics shows that if you use a rotary to cut your shapes... you get windows in your yardage without "tunnels" destroying your yardage. Tula Pink marks around her template and snips into the cutting line, to make the windows, keeping the yardage as whole as possible. 💖🌞🌵😷
Ikea has some great storage ideas. I don't think the US Ikeas have fabric though (some of our products are different). That mini ironing board would be nice. we don't have much need for one, besides learning to sew.
You can put it on your fabric to mirror a particular design and get an idea of what it would look like if you cut that part of the fabric out 6 times to make a star for example. Maybe it needs a full video? 🤔
I’ve never been to IKEA, I live in a very rural area and town is 100 miles away. I’m excited, I’m going with my son tomorrow. Thank you for the inspiration, and I’m ordering my first ever liberty fabric.

I think IKEA needs to issue GPS devices to navigate their facility!
I love that store. I always start out with a regular bag and end up with a cart.
If I get lost, I head for the cafe, have meatballs and a coffee and then consult the map!! Works every time!! X

I haven’t been to Ikea for years but your episode most definitely got me inspired and I can see a little trip coming up during my next week off! However, beforehand I shall have my mini break in Ironbridge, ahahah! 🪡🧵🌸
Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and I’m super excited about Saturday, I’m just packing everything now, can’t wait to see you!🤗
Lovely to see you again.Hope your a little better than you have been.
They sound like very special projects and very beautiful
Super video I want dash off to Cardiff now. I have loads of bits that I have collected over the years they have just get better. My whole sewing is based on ikea. That ladder is a must so can’t to visit thank you . 😀
I’m so glad you liked the video! Have fun at IKEA 😊🌸
Thank you for the quilting ideas, will look for them in our cdn stores,
Wonderful!
Thanks for sharing these great suggestions for organizing sewing and crafting "collections" 😉
Thanks for watching!
Really helpful for a beginner such as myself. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Loved all your ideas. Did you know that the fleece throw can be pinned to a wall and your patchwork pieces will just adhere to it so you can get an idea of placement. It is also great as wadding although there is no shrinkage 😊
Yes that’s a great idea! A design wall is on my to make list for this year 😊
I don’t have ikea near me but you have great ideas. Nice presentation. Liked and subscribed!❤🇺🇸
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! Welcome to the community
Oh that sounds so complex! I would definitely struggle with that. Hope you can manage to get to it one day, thank you for watching 🌸
Thank u for the tip. It’s a brilliant idea with the mirror. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩👵🏼👵🏼👵🏼👵🏼
I’m so happy you liked it!😊
Thank you for the video about IKEA. I hadn’t even thought about all the storage pieces. I didn’t realize the had fabrics. I’m going to have to make a point to go and see what I can find, too!
Oh I’m so glad you liked the video!😊
Thank you Emma interesting to see from another persons perspective
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don't have an ikea in my area but it was nice to see what they have and the idea you shared
Thank you! Glad you liked it 😊
Thanks!
Thank you! That’s very kind, I really appreciate it 🤗
Hello! So nice to see you. I love IKEA
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much for watching 😊🌸
Here's my thoughts on storage containers for the sewing room... Open containers are fine for drawers, but containers for shelves should have a cover to keep dust and pet hairs away. If you must have open baskets or bins, they should have some sort of lip or ledge so they stack and so the contents doesn't get squashed. I hate seeing baskets stacked and the top ones are leaning because the contents of the one below isn't level. This doesn't happen with baskets with a stacking ledge. 💖🌞🌵😷
Great advice, thank you Suzi!🌸
Thank you Emma very fun to watch
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you for watching 😊
Great tips. Wish I had an IKEA nearby.
Ah sorry you haven’t got one near you Marilyn, I hope you get to go to one, one day. Thanks for watching 🌸
Great video Emma, thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks Emma. Nice video. 😊
Thank you! 😃
My sewing table is an IKEA island top that In purchased legs for separately elsewhere, it's great! I have lots of room, on one side are my sewing machines (serger and regular machine) and I cut and pin on the other side
That sounds like a great set up!
Thanks
Thank you so so much! That’s very kind of you and very much appreciated 🤗
@emmajonesvintagesewingbox 1st creator I've thanked. You're amazing. Thank you so much for all your videos they are fabulous. Love from London x
Oh gosh, that really means a lot 🤗 thank you 🌸
I love the fabric that you showed at the end with the mirrors. Is it Liberty?
Yes it is, it’s called Lodden 😊🌸
My mini ironing board is for sleeves, so it's even smaller. It hangs on a hook in the hall cupboard for years at a time, untouched, apart from a dust now and then, but when you need it, it's just the job.
Oh that sounds perfect and so useful! Thanks for watching 🌸
Thank you for so much great information in a very short time! I loved what you shared in your video. I’m just getting into Lucy Boston, so the mirrors would be ideal. I’ll look at the link you mentioned. Thanks again.:)🩷
So glad you found the video useful, have fun with your Lucy Boston quilt, it’s a lovely project 🌸
Thank you very much for the Ikea tips!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching 😊
Lovely tour🤗 Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching Elizabeth
I LOVE your name. Beautiful, one of my great aunts was also named Emma. 💜
Thank you so much!
Mirror trick a good one.
So glad you like it Lynette!😊😊
Great fun video! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for sharing 😊
Thanks for watching!
Thank you Emma. I love IKEA😄 but sadly don't have one close. ☹️How the devil did you go round IKEA and only spend £2.50!!!!?🤪. Think the blanket idea is fant! Take care and stay safe🤗
Haha I know! I had much restraint! But I will be going back I’m sure 🤣 thanks for watching 🌸
I really hope you look into Jinny Beyer’s work for how she uses those mirrors. Her work is absolutely incredible.
Never heard of her but I will look her up, thank you!
Oh I think I know the one you mean, I think my son has it, is it red? It’s really great. Thanks so much for watching Karen 🌸
@emmajonesvintagesewingbox Yes, it is the red one, and it has a carrying handle too! 😊
Great video as usual!
Thank you! I appreciate that 🤗
Really useful. Thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching 😊
Nice video, and although I am not in England, I'm in the USA, think I can get the things i liked. Fabric is no longer available in the US sadly, because I bought quite a bit when it was...
Thanks so much for watching 😊
Emma, I don't think you need to worry about wasting fabric whilst fussy cutting to make fantastic hexi flowers because you love the miniature sizes (like 1/4"). And there's always a small scrap to fit those miniature sizes. 💖🌞🌵😷
Yes that’s true, I did think that when I was watching the video back, so maybe I will give fussy cutting a try. Thank you Suzi 😊🌸
How fun! I'd love to visit an IKEA❤️
Ikea has some great storage ideas. I don't think the US Ikeas have fabric though (some of our products are different). That mini ironing board would be nice. we don't have much need for one, besides learning to sew.
Thank you!
How do you use the fussy cutting mirrors? Not heard of that before
You can put it on your fabric to mirror a particular design and get an idea of what it would look like if you cut that part of the fabric out 6 times to make a star for example. Maybe it needs a full video? 🤔
